Jeffrey Dahmer. Los hermanos Menéndez. Y ahora, Ed Gein.

We received our first look at the poster last week and now, Netflix is giving us a look at the trailer for Monster: The Ed Gein Story. And this definitely seems to be leaning into the Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre inspiration of Gein. Hunnam looks to be doing a great job in the role, though I can’t help but feel like these serial killer fetish shows are getting a bit out of hand. Hopefully this will be the last one for a while. Wait, they’ve already announced one for Lizzie Borden? Dammit.

Charlie Hunnam has gone psycho in the teaser trailer for Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
Hunnam has taken on the role of the famed serial killer for the third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan‘s Netflix anthology series. The horror offering releases all episodes Oct. 3 for what the streamer has called its most harrowing season yet.
The first footage (below) shows Gein’s home being investigated by police who are so disturbed they can barely go through what they find. The teaser trailer ends with a conversation between Gein and his mother (played by Laurie Metcalf) that is the thing of nightmares.
This first look follows the key art that recently introduced Hunnam as Gein, the infamous serial murderer and body snatcher often referred to as “the Butcher of Plainfield” who gained notoriety in the 1950s for his horrific crimes.
The narration in the trailer comes from Tom Hollander...

If there's one thing Ryan Murphy and his team know how to do, it's getting viewers hyped for their latest foray into true crime. Murphy's Monster series began in 2022 with Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which captivated viewers and made controversial headlines, and continued with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, which played a role in the renewed interest in getting the brothers out on parole 35 years after being convicted of murdering their parents. It might seem hard to top those salacious stories, but Murphy's trying to do just that with the latest installment, Monster: The Ed Gein Story, which has finally revealed its release date...

The third installment of “Monster,” Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology series about notorious killers, will premiere Oct. 3 on Netflix. The latest season will focus on Ed Gein, a killer who influenced modern horror more than perhaps any other singular killer.
Known as “the Butcher of Plainfield” and “the Plainfield Ghoul,” Gein gained nationwide attention in the late 1950s when police discovered he exhumed corpses from local graveyards and used their flesh and bones to fashion keepsakes like lampshades and chairs. He also confessed to killing two women, Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden. Though he was found guilty of Worden’s murder, he was declared legally insane and sent to a psychiatric institution.

Both actors will appear opposite Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany, whose lead character Paula—a newly divorced mother caught in a spiral of blackmail, murder and youth-soccer politics—anchors the 10-episode half-hour show from creator-showrunner David J. Rosen.
Hall, known for HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls and FX’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, will portray Rudy, a newsroom staffer whose cynicism masks unexpected loyalty. Goldberg, recently seen in Charmed and Peacock’s The Calling, steps in as Geri, a fact-checker whose diligence entangles her in Paula’s widening crisis. Decades after “When Harry Met Sally” asked audiences if adult men and women can be friends, yet another romantic comedy poses the same question of a contemporary collegiate crowd. However, in director Jordan Weiss’ “Sweethearts,” which revolves around two besties breaking up with their hometown romances over a holiday weekend, the time-honored query waits until the last minutes to develop, while a separate pair of screwball-comedy plotlines haven’t properly concluded. Though the film contains a talented ensemble and compelling sentiments about self-acceptance and platonic friendship, it plays like two half-baked screenplays mashed together, bound by wafer-thin connections.
Ben (Nico Hiraga) and Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) have been best friends since childhood and are determined to stick together through their adulthood, starting with attending the same college in the same dorm at Densen University. Bela (Amrit Kaur) has found herself looking for a new purpose and takes on the role of residence director for the freshman dorm after finding out she doesn't have the credits to transfer. Finally, there is Leighton (Reneé Rapp), who has found herself continuing with her relationship with Alicia (Midori Francis).

There are already multiple movies about that first, chaotic weekend when college freshmen return home. And the standards aren’t especially high; the genre includes the Pauly Shore comedy “Son-in-Law” and the Hallmark-ian romance “Turkey Drop.” But “Sweethearts,” a sex comedy lacking in sex, silliness or subversion — just one would do — barely clears the bar.
Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga (“Moxie”) are Jamie and Ben, platonic besties who head off to college together. They’ve committed to long-distance relationships with their high school sweethearts, but soon realize they’d rather be single. So, like millions of students before them, they decide to break up with their partners during Thanksgiving weekend.
After a few listless mishaps, they return home to Ohio where the unsuspecting Claire (Ava DeMary) and Simon (Charlie Hall) await. Jamie is convinced the break has to happen immediately, so they enlist their other Bff, Palmer (Caleb Hearon), to help organize the night.

It’s generally never a good idea, as a romantic comedy, to invoke “When Harry Met Sally” and remind audience members that they could be watching an influential all-time great example of the form instead of one of its many derivatives. But “Sweethearts,” a new Max original, earns its shout-out to the Nora Ephron classic better than most. At the tail end of the Thanksgiving comedy, male lead Ben (Nico Hiraga) sits down with his parents after dinner to watch the 1989 Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan vehicle, only to find the iconic “Men and women can’t be friends” speech hits a bit too close to home.
That’s a question that’s been hanging over his relationship with Bff Jamie (Kiernan Shipka of “Mad Men” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” fame) for a while now. Tight-knit since eighth grade and now attending the same college, the two do practically...

Warning: This article includes minor spoilers for Sweethearts.
Sweethearts includes a cast led by star Kiernan Shipka but is otherwise comprised of up-and-coming actors who show their potential. The Max original movie puts a twist on the holiday rom-com by centering it on Thanksgiving a holiday thats otherwise been ignored by the genre. Though Sweethearts reviews are mixed, the movie will appeal to fans of the anti-rom-com which follows rom-com tropes and formulas while subverting expectations and challenging the realistic nature of the genre. The films in this sub-genre have messier main characters, show imperfect love, and have different conclusions about popular themes.
Sweethearts hits all the right notes for the anti-rom-com, exploring two best friends as they make a pact to break up with their high school sweethearts. Part of the reason the movie thrives is because of the incredible cast that creates likably unlikable characters. The most recognizable name is Kiernan Shipka,...

Sweethearts is an anti-rom-com that follows two best friends who decide their high school relationships are holding them back as college students. Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) is lethargic and emotionally closed off from befriending others while maintaining a lackluster long-distance relationship with her jock boyfriend. Meanwhile, Ben (Nico Hiraga) is smothered by his vain and obsessive girlfriend, preventing him from committing to his studies. They realize they're in a slump and, no longer emotionally invested in their partners, they make a pact to break up with their high school sweethearts before Thanksgiving.
Sweethearts is a comedy directed by Jordan Weiss, centering on two college freshmen who face the challenge of ending their high school relationships during a chaotic Thanksgiving Eve. “Sweethearts” follows Jamie and Ben, two best friends who navigate the turbulent seas of freshman year at Densen College. They are dedicated to maintaining long-distance relationships with high school sweethearts Simon and Claire. Still, they soon find that these connections are more limiting than beneficial. Jamie finds herself faking interest on phone calls. At the same time, Ben struggles to participate in campus life while being constantly digitally monitored by his girlfriend.
After a wild night out with their roommates, the two plan to break up with their significant others on Thanksgiving Eve. This is more than just breaking relationships; it’s about reclaiming their college experience and personal independence. The strategy appears easy but proves to be anything but pushing them into a series of comedic and emotionally difficult situations.
Palmer, Jamie, and Ben’s high school companions, who took a gap year in France, weave his way into their journey.

A third season of Netflix's Monster series is in the works with Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam playing notorious murderer Ed Gein. The season will follow previous seasons that explored the stories of Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers.
In an interview with Collider, series co-creator Ryan Murphy explained why Gein was chosen as the real-life killer who serves as the focus of the third season of Monster. He shared that the idea came from discussions with co-creator Ian Brennan, as the two realized that Gein was essentially the first American serial killer to be turned into a "crazy celebrity" of sorts. Murphy pointed out how Gein's crimes influenced several celebrated genre films and he was intrigued by telling the story of how the "Butcher of Plainfield" came to be.

Ryan Murphy has been at odds with the real Menendez brothers after the debut of the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Even so, Murphy is teasing that he could be telling more of the brothers' story based on new update on their case.
Per Variety, Murphy is considering an extension of Monsters, teasing that he might make some additional episodes to serve as an epilogue of the season. This is in response to the news that a court hearing has officially been set for Lyle and Erik Menendez concerning the double homicide they carried out against their parents. Reportedly, new evidence has been submitted which may bolster the siblings' claims that they had been sexually assaulted by their father. Murphy is open to including this update as a part of the story, but only if the same actors were to return.
