New Trailer for 4K Restoration of 'Pink Floyd at Pompeii - McMlxxii'
Image
"An exclusive theatrical event!" IMAX has revealed a new trailer for the 4K restoration + re-release of an awesome rock doc event titled Pink Floyd at Pompeii. Set in the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the ancient Roman Amphitheater in Pompeii, the film captures Pink Floyd performing an intimate concert without an audience, filmed in October 1971. It was released for the first time in late 1972, and will return to cinemas again some 53 years later. The film has been meticulously hand restored, frame-by-frame, from the original 35mm cut negative - discovered in five dubiously labelled cans within Pink Floyd's own archives. This big breakthrough unearthed the very film that rolled through the cameras during those sweltering days amidst the ruins of Pompeii over 50 years ago. Led by Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd, the team's mission was to preserve the integrity & beauty of the original picture. The film was scanned in...

‘Pink Floyd at Pompeii’ Restored Concert Film to Get Imax Release, in Conjunction With First-Time Stand-Alone Live Album
Image
“Pink Floyd at Pompeii — McMlxxii,” the rock band’s 1972 concert film/documentary, will revisit theaters with a restored version that is coming to Imax and other cinema screens starting April 24, followed shortly by a first-time stand-alone release of the soundtrack as an official live album on May 2.

Trafalgar Releasing and Sony Music Vision are bringing the film back into theaters, to be seen in a 4K digital remaster created from the original 35mm footage. Steven Wilson, whose remixes are well known to fans of classic rock, was behind the board for a new Dolby mix of the movie’s audio.

The live album will come out just a week after the film’s reappearance in cinemas, with Legacy, Sony’s catalog division, issuing it on CD, vinyl, digital audio and Dolby Atmos formats. It’s the first time the music from the film has been commercially released as a stand-alone item.
