Larick Mathews, also known as "Director Cricket", began his journey in Detroit, Michigan, where his interest in music production led him to work with renowned artists such as Eminem, Royce 5'9, and Jay Dilla. After deciding to pursue a career in music, he moved to Atlanta, but quickly realized that the city was not as welcoming to emerging artists at the time as it is now. As a result, he decided to pivot and pursue his other passion - screenwriting and directing. He studied screenplays and read books on the subject until he became proficient at it.
To perfect his craft, Cricket started by directing music videos, and over the years, he has had great success working with some of the biggest names in the music industry. However, his passion for creating film content, whether it be writing, directing, or producing, could not be satisfied solely by music videos. Therefore, he shifted his focus to films. To date, he has worked on various film-related projects, including being Assistant Director on the MJG & 8 Ball biopic "Coming Out Hard" with Push Films, Director of "Mistress's of Atlanta", Director of the Nike & TRX comical, and Writer of "Blue Devils".
Larick "Director Cricket" Mathews has created a plethora of written content and filmed a feature film called "False Advertisement", which was selected for the American Black Film Festival in 2020. In the film, Cricket served as the Director, Writer, and Editor. He has also recently finished filming a 3-part mini-series titled "Brooklin", which is currently in its final stages of post-production, along with a short film called "Moved", a touching story about a single father and his son, dealing with the harsh reality of life after losing everything.
Larick loves making movies, from the inception of ideas to the story-line, all the way down to the final cut of post-production. His main focus with storytelling is to evoke emotions, whether it be laughter, tears, anger or sadness. As long as he can connect with the audience on an emotional level, he feels he has served his purpose from a visual standpoint.
