‘The Last of Us’ Music Supervisors on Reuniting Crooked Still and That Gustavo Santaolalla Cameo
Image
The tone of “The Last of Us: Part II” video game is even darker than it was in the first part: Ellie grieves the murder of her father figure, Joel, and embarks on a quest to avenge his death.

When it was time to adapt the game for Season 2 of the HBO series, music

supervisors Evyen Klean, Ian Broucek and Scott Hanau had the opportunity to explore a “number of new shades” in the soundtrack.

The primary musical moments take place during two flashback sequences: the New Year’s Eve dance where Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) have their first kiss, and Ellie’s 16th birthday, when Joel (Pedro Pascal) performs a rendition of Pearl Jam’s “Future Days.” Another key moment comes in the present day, when Ellie performs A-ha’s “Take On Me” for Dina.

“When you have all these great interactions between Ellie and Dina...

Bella Ramsey reflects on fans' mixed reactions to their Ellie portrayal in The Last of Us
Image
Video game adaptations can be hit or miss, yet HBO's The Last of Us won over even the most skeptical fans by staying true to the spirit of the game while expanding its world. But unfortunately, series star Bella Ramsey didn't have the easiest introduction, facing intense fan backlash and criticism over their casting early on.

Ramsey portrays the main character, Ellie, in the hit post-apocalyptic drama series, and when news broke that they had been cast, reactions among fans were immediate and polarized. Some praised their acting potential, while others criticized their appearance and questioned whether they could bring the beloved video game character to life.

With the show now two seasons in, Ramsey is opening up in a new interview about the mixed fan reactions they've received and sharing how they’ve navigated the pressure of playing such an iconic character. Deadline got the opportunity to talk with Ramsey,...

20 years of YouTube: In 2020, a mass reckoning came to the creator world
Image
In February 2025, YouTube turned 20. The video site has gone through a lot over the past two decades, including an acquisition, an earnings glow-up, and multiple generations of star creators. In our 20 Years of YouTube series, we’ll examine the uploads, trends, and influencers that have defined the world’s favorite video site — one year at a time. Click here for a full archive of the series.

By the time 2020 rolled around, YouTube was 15 years old. The teenagers who had grown up with the platform’s first wave of homegrown stars — the Ryan Higas, iJustines, and Smoshes of the world — had become full-grown adults. Compared to their younger years, they had less time to spend watching videos. A younger generation had emerged as the drivers of digital culture, and the merger of Musical.ly and TikTok had created a new force to rival YouTube’s dominance of the creator industry.

Bella Ramsey on Owning Ellie as The Last of Us Turns the Page
Bella for the New York Times.
Bella Ramsey says stepping back into Ellie for the second season of HBO’s post-apocalyptic drama reshaped how they work, describing the role’s impact on their craft as profound in a new conversation published this week. The reflections arrive after a spring run that ended May 25 and placed Ellie at the center of the story’s most contested choices, with production having spanned much of 2024 in British Columbia and the series already charting its next chapter.

Ramsey has emphasized that the most demanding day on set was not the season’s headline shock but a quiet scene in Episode 3, when Ellie returns to Joel’s house and breaks down while taking in the traces he left behind. They described filming intimate grief in a crowded room as more taxing than staging the season’s violence, drawing on a year of shared work with Pedro Pascal to find the right emotional register.

Bella Ramsey Opens Up About Filming ‘The Last Of Us’ Season 2 & Explains How Playing Ellie Williams Has “Massively” Impacted Their Artistry
Image
Bella Ramsey has collectively spent nearly two years embodying the hard-headed teenage orphan Ellie Williams in HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us.

Season 2, which concluded in May, earned Ramsey their second Emmy nomination for the role. Adapting the second game in Naughty Dog’s duology The Last of Us Part II, the second season picks up five years after the events of the first season with Ellie and Joel (Pedro Pascal), who has become somewhat of a surrogate father to the wayward teen, easing into as much of a routine as one can in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse at a compound in Jackson, Wyoming.

Quickly, though, Ellie’s world is turned upside down when a group of Fireflies murder Joel on the outskirts of town as revenge for his own murder spree to save Ellie at the Salt Lake City hospital that left their loved ones dead.

'The Last of Us' Co-Creator Breaks Silence on Series' Most Devastating Exit
Image
The Last of Us writer and director Craig Mazin has finally broken his silence on one of the show’s biggest changes heading into Season 3. It was reported earlier this summer that The Last of Us game creator Neil Druckmann and writer Halley Gross were stepping away from the Emmy-winning TV series to focus on a new game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This leaves Mazin as the sole writer going forward, and it remains unclear if there will be other scribes assisting him in a writer’s room.

Mazin recently sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and he was asked how things are going to change now...

Bella Ramsey’s Campaign to Become MCU’s Spider-Man: Is It Really That Absurd?
Image
Could Bella Ramsey, Emmy-nominated, sword-wielding, zombie-fighting powerhouse, really sling webs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? According to Ramsey, yes… maybe. In a recent Variety interview, the Game of Thrones breakout star threw Marvel fans a curveball by casually floating the idea:

I could be Spider-Man. Tom Holland did a great job though. So maybe they do need to make a new [superhero] for me.

Ramsey, known for embodying fierce characters like Lyanna Mormont and Ellie in The Last of Us (a role that’s earned them two Emmy nominations), is hardly unfamiliar with commanding the screen. Yet, this superhero suggestion came as a surprise, especially considering they only recently watched their first Marvel film, a late-night binge of Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man, and immediately declared it “incredible”.

It was the first time I watched a Marvel film, and that was two months, three months ago.

It’s the kind of...

5 Bella Ramsey Performances So Good, You’ll Forget ‘The Last of Us’ Controversy
Image
Bella Ramsey’s performance in the second season of The Last of Us irked many hardcore fans of the game despite them receiving an Emmy nomination. Ramsey played Ellie in the HBO show based on the game by Naughty Dog Entertainment, and the latest season seemed to fall short of expectations, especially in Ellie’s treatment.

Several moments in Ramsey’s performance seemed to attract criticism from fans and critics alike. Scenes such as Ellie’s speech in the town council to hunt down Joel’s killer stand out as moments where they could have gone in a different direction. However, they have already proven their mettle in previous performances.

While Ramsey’s performance in The Last of Us might need some tweaking in the third season of the show, here are five other roles that prove their acting chops.

1. Time – Kelsey Morgan

While shows like The Last of Us put them into the mainstream,...

Bella Ramsey Expresses Interest in Joining MCU as Spider-Man
Image
Bella Ramsey expresses interest in playing Spider-Man if they were to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future. The English actor broke through with their memorable role as the fierce Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones before joining another HBO series, The Last of Us. For their role as Ellie, Ramsey has received critical acclaim, including two Emmy nominations.

Other than the two HBO series, Ramsey has also played Mildred Hubble in the Cbbc series The Worst Witch (2017–2020) and voiced the titular role in Netflix's animated series Hilda (2018–2023). They also played the titular role in Lena Dunham's historical comedy Catherine Called Birdy (2022) and a heroin addict in the BBC prison drama Time (2023), continuing to garner critical acclaim.

Pedro Pascal calls Joel’s death painfully ‘magical’ as ‘The Last of Us’ Emmy panel turns emotional
Image
It was an emotional but laughter-filled Sunday as The Last of Us kicked off a full day of Emmy FYC panels for HBO Max’s nominated shows. The cast and creators revisited Joel’s shocking death, Ellie’s spiral into rage, and Abby’s heartbreaking introduction.

Pedro Pascal, nominated again this year for Best Drama Actor, admitted that filming Joel's brutal murder sequence was both surreal and strangely cathartic. “When you're so inside this world, you kind of lose sight of what it will mean to the audience," the star said. "You realize how monumental that audience is and how sophisticated the storytelling is within that [gaming] medium. None of us were really thinking about that as we were shooting it. We were just in the story. It was strangely painful in a way I hadn’t personalized on previous jobs — but also kind of magical.”

The actor praised his scene partner,...

The Last Of US Star Bella Ramsey Wants To Play Spider-man: "They Need To Make A New [Superhero] For Me"
Image
Coming off their acclaimed turn as Ellie in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us, we have heard from a couple of different sources that Bella Ramsey is being eyed for a Marvel Studios role.

Whether this means that Ramsey has actually taken a meeting with the studio or is simply on their radar is not clear, but the actor wasn't about to confirm anything when asked about the rumors and whether they had any interest in following Pedro Pascal into the MCU at HBO Max Nominee Celebration Day.

“I don’t know about that,” Ramsey responded. “I could be Spider-Man. Tom Holland did a great job though. So maybe they do need to make a new [superhero] for me.”

Ramsey was clearly joking around, and actually hasn't seen that many Marvel films. In fact, they only recently watched their first: One of Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man movies.

‘The Last of Us’ Star Says They Want to Play Spider-Man: “I Could Be Spider-Man. Tom Holland Did a Great Job Though”

Bellay Ramsey is opening up about superheroes and their surprising interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The topic came up because of Pedro Pascal’s recent role in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which sparked a conversation about superhero movies.

“You didn’t call [Pascal] and say you wanted to be in the next MCU movie?” a reporter asked Ramsey.

“I don’t know about that,” Ramsey laughed. “I could be Spider-Man. Tom Holland did a great job though. So maybe they do need to make a new [superhero] for me.”

Even though Ramsey is now well-known for playing Ellie on the hit series “The Last of Us,” they are still new to the world of superhero films. In fact, they’ve only watched one Marvel movie, an Andrew Garfield “Spider-Man” film.

Ramsey is keeping busy this year with a number of exciting projects. They will appear in the movies Sunny Dancer and Harmonia,...

Kaitlyn Dever Reveals What Fans Constantly Complain About Regarding ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2
Image
The second season of The Last of Us received high praise from critics, but not everyone was happy. The show faced “review bombing” on Rotten Tomatoes, starting with a 61% approval rating after the first episode and dropping to 49% after the third and 39% after the sixth.

Metacritic showed a similar trend, with user scores falling to 3.6/10 and 62% of reviews marked as negative. Many fans were unhappy with the casting of Ramsey and Kaitlyn Dever, who played Abby, arguing they didn’t look like their video game characters. Some also criticized how Joel’s death was portrayed and the changes made to the story, including Abby’s arc.

One of the most shocking moments in the season came in the second episode. Abby brings Joel and Dina to a lodge, sedates Dina, and confronts Joel. She reveals that the Firefly doctor Joel had killed was her father. Abby shoots Joel in the leg,...

Kaitlyn Dever “Couldn’t Watch” Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s Final Moment in ‘The Last of Us’: “I Don’t Know How You Guys Did That”
Image
After landing 16 Emmy nominations for season two of The Last of Us, its stars and creative team took a look back at the emotional season at HBO Max’s Nominee Celebration on Sunday.

Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Joe Pantoliano and editor Timothy Good joined co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann at the event, with the season’s second episode — which sees Dever’s Abby brutally murder Pascal’s main character, Joel — the subject of much of the conversation.

“You’re so inside of it that you really kind of lose sight of what it will mean when a TV audience experiences episode two of season two,” Pascal told the crowd, and given that Joel also dies in the video game that the series is based on, “I’m like, ‘Well, everyone knows this is gonna happen,’ because I’ve just been living with it for such a long time.

‘The Last of Us’ Star Bella Ramsey Would Love to Play Spider-Man and Make a Heist Movie With Pedro Pascal
Image
Bella Ramsey has an idea of what they’d like to do next with Pedro Pascal following the death of his character, Joel, on the second season of “The Last of Us.”

“I think maybe like a heist movie where we’re robbing a bank together,” Ramsey told me Sunday at the HBO Emmys nominees event in Hollywood.

Ramsey said they are — no surprise! — most frequently asked about Pascal. “It’s, ‘How is Pedro Pascal? Is he as nice as he seems?’” Ramsey said. “That’s mostly what people ask me, and the answer is, ‘Yes.’…He’s here and I have not seen him in so long. I’m looking around, trying to find him.”

They added, “Most of our texts consist of, ‘Where in the world are you? I’m here, are you there? Oh, we just missed each other.’”

Talk also turned to superheroes because of Pascal...

Gh’s Laura Wright Confronts Creepy AI Marriage Hoax

Kathy Bates could make Emmy history as sole nominee for ‘Matlock’
Image
Kathy Bates could be heading for one of the rarest wins in Emmy history. The Oscar winner and two-time Emmy champ is Matlock’s only nomination at the 2025 Emmys — and if she wins Best Drama Actress, she’d be the first performer to take the prize for a lone-nominated show since Tatiana Maslany. Only two other women — Patricia Arquette and Sela Ward — have pulled off the feat this century.

Bates currently leads Gold Derby's odds over Britt Lower (Severance), Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), and Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters). Bates' industry gravitas, a Critics Choice Award win earlier this year for Matlock, and the show’s status as one of the most-watched programs on television weigh in her favor.

RZA On His New Film ‘One Spoon of Chocolate,’ And His Growth As a Filmmaker: “I Honestly Feel Like I Have Arrived”
RZA at an event for Cut Throat City (2020)
Before making his fourth feature film, the action revenge thriller One Spoon of Chocolate, legendary rapper and music producer RZA was still, he confesses, unsure of himself as a filmmaker, feeling that he hadn’t yet mastered the process, the “rhythms” as he calls it, of being a director, at least not to the same comfort level he had with music.

After scaling the heights of hip hop as the de facto head of the Wu-Tang Clan, arguably the most influential rap group in history, RZA has found increasing success in film and television, firstly as an actor — he has starred in films like American Gangster (2007), G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) and Nobody (2021) and series like Californication — and more significantly with writing and directing. His directorial debut, 2012’s The Man With the Iron Fists, starred Oscar-winner Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista and Lucy Lu. RZA followed that with Love Beats Rhymes, a musical drama starring Azelia Banks,...

"They Wrote That Person Out": The Flash Star Danielle Panabaker Details Pay Disputes For Arrowverse Crossovers
Image
The Arrowverse expanded massively following the launch of Arrow, with multiple spin-offs and an ever-expanding list of characters who soon helped create a more successful shared DC Universe than even the Dceu.

Interest in the franchise did fade over time, and the shows ended one by one as The CW started moving away from pricey scripted dramas. Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow were unceremoniously cancelled, but Arrow and The Flash did get pretty solid send-offs.

Over the years, we were treated to some huge crossovers. They started small with Green Arrow meeting the Scarlet Speedster, but eventually expanded into far-reaching, Multiversal events that even included characters from the wider DC film and TV worlds.

Talking to Michael Rosenbaum on the latest edition of his podcast (via Screen Rant), Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost actor Danielle Panabaker revealed that several cast members had issues with how they were compensated for these crossovers.

‘Arrowverse’ Stars Left Out of Flash Crossovers Over Pay Disputes, Says Danielle Panabaker
Image
Before Arrowverse concluded last year, fans noticed that even in the latter series of the franchise, some familiar faces were missing from recent Flash crossover events, and it turns out money was a big part of the reason.

The popular crossover episodes, which started back in 2014 with The Flash season 1 and Arrow season 2, brought together heroes from different shows and quickly became a fan favorite. But behind the scenes, things weren’t always smooth.

Danielle Panabaker, who played Killer Frost on The Flash, revealed in a recent interview on the podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum that actors who asked for pay equal to what they earned on their main shows often got written out of these crossover episodes.

She explained how complicated and frustrating the pay situation was, especially in the early days.

Panabaker said the first crossover was pretty intense for the cast because they were essentially doing two jobs at once.

Raise Your Hand Review: Not Another 90s Nostalgia Film
Image
Some films use the 1990s as a quaint backdrop for throwback soundtracks and fashion. Raise Your Hand remembers the decade differently. It treats the past not as a costume box but as a fresh crime scene, examining a period before the language for certain traumas became commonplace.

Set in a bleak Midwestern high school, the film follows best friends Gia (Jearnest Corchado) and Lila (Hanani Taylor) as they navigate an adolescence defined by scarcity and peril.

This is not a story of coming of age so much as a document of survival, presented with a raw, unvarnished honesty that feels less like a narrative feature and more like a recovered artifact. The subject is resilience, but the film never lets you forget how much it costs.

Arrowverse Crossover Pay Disputes Revealed As Actors Were Written Out For Demanding Fair Salaries
Image
Arrowverse fans missed seeing certain characters in the DC crossover events due to pay salary disputes. It has been nearly a year since the Arrowverse franchise came to an end following the conclusion of Superman & Lois season 4, which finished airing in December 2024, as that was the final superhero series for The CW.

The Arrowverse crossover events began in 2014 between The Flash season 1 and Arrow season 2, with each show hosting an episode where other cast members came over. The crossovers got bigger each year as the Arrowverse kept adding more shows to the lineup.

As the Arrowverse crossovers were one of the most popular aspects of the entire DC TV franchise on The CW, there were more troubles behind the scenes than fans realized. According to The Flash's Danielle Panabaker, who played Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost, on the latest Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum episode, actors would get...

Bella Ramsey recalls hardest part of filming Joel's death in The Last of Us: 'I'll never forget it'
Image
When it comes to brutal, shocking death sequences on television, a few notable ones come to mind. There's the time Negan killed Glenn and Abraham in The Walking Dead, or when Hank was killed in Breaking Bad, or perhaps most famously, the Red Wedding from Game of Thrones.

This year featured a particularly poignant death scene in the form of The Last of Us season 2, when Joel (Pedro Pascal) was brutally beaten to death by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), all while Ellie (Bella Ramsey) was left on the floor watching, unable to help. The moment captured the immense emotion from the video game with ease. Fans were left distraught as Joel, the show's protagonist, was taken so early in the season.

While Joel would later return sporadically throughout the season in various flashback sequences, his exit had a massive impact on not only the trajectory of the story but also how...

Bella Ramsey breaks silence on Neil Druckmann’s departure from The Last of Us
Image
Since The Last of Us season 2 premiered earlier this spring, the fan-favorite HBO drama series has had some incredibly good luck. HBO renewed the show for a third season and season 2 picked up a whopping 16 Emmy Award nominations, and the series seems to be as creatively on fire as ever. However, there's a big change in store ahead behind the scenes for season 3.

Ahead of The Last of Us season 3, co-creator and Naughty Dog video game developer Neil Druckmann announced that he's leaving the series, leaving Crag Mazin in charge as the sole showrunner. It's a big season of change for the series after the departure of Pedro Pascal following Joel's death as well as Kaitlyn Dever's rise as the focus of the upcoming episodes.

In a new interview with Variety, Emmy Award-nominated The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey broke their silence on Druckmann leaving the series for...

Lucid Photo: Fantasia International Film Festival

A struggling artist tries to simulate her creativity with a drug, only to find that there are things in her subconscious that she was never supposed to know about, in Lucid. Screening at the Fantasia International Film Festival, it’s a multi-layered film expanded from their original short by Deanna Milligan and Ramsey Fendall, starring Caitlin Acken Taylor in the lead role with her younger sister, up-and-coming star Georgia Acken of The Sacrifice Game, playing her younger self. Deanna, Ramsey and Caitlin met up with me early in the festival, all extremely excited and eager to talk about their work – despite a production process which was anything but straightforward.

“I didn't want to make a feature at all, says Deanna. “I had put my foot down about it because people kept telling me that we should do that. And Ramsey wanted to do it,...

Image
How Much Did The Last Of Us Cast Earn? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

HBO’s The Last of Us is undoubtedly one of the most acclaimed shows in recent years. After wrecking the viewers’ emotional well-being with season 1, the series returned with another season on HBO in April 2025.

Based on the popular video game of the same name, the show is led by Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel, and Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie. Although the second season received mixed reviews from audiences and critics and didn’t create the impact like the first, it resonated with many viewers.

Pascal’s fatherly emotions escalated even further in this series, while Ramsey brought sass and an emotional quotient. While people enjoyed the storyline of a survival drama in the first season, in the second, the plot shows their story years later and delves deeper into the characters. But do you know how...

What are the chances The Last of Us will take home Emmy awards?
Image
The 2025 Emmy nominations are out and generating a lot of conversations about who's on the list, who was snubbed, and who will be taking home the coveted trophies. A lot of TV shows from the sci-fi and fantasy genres made the cut, including Severance, The Penguin, Andor, and HBO's zombie drama The Last of Us.

When season 2 premiered in April, the one thing devoted fans of both the video game and television show dreaded the most occurred: Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) killed Joel (Pedro Pascal). One of the most controversial moments in video game history came to life, and in the second episode of the season no less, leaving Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to carry the rest of the season as her quest for revenge against Abby began.

Ratings for the second season fell compared to the first, but The Last of Us still managed to get an impressive 17 Emmy nominations, including...

Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey? Doc Director Says There Is "Zero Chance" the Ramseys Are Responsible
Image
On Dec. 26, 1996, John and Patsy Ramsey awoke to a nightmare. Their younger child, 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, was missing, with a chilling ransom note left behind. The day took a devastating turn when John Ramsey discovered JonBenét’s lifeless body in the basement, revealing the horrifying truth that she had been sexually assaulted and brutally murdered within the supposed safety of her own home. The Boulder police, inexperienced in handling homicide investigations, quickly turned their suspicions toward the Ramsey family, igniting a media frenzy that painted them as the prime suspects. This one-sided reporting fueled a national obsession, casting a long shadow over the case that remains unsolved 28 years later.

Now, Academy Award–nominated director Joe Berlinger is reexamining the infamous cold case in a compelling three-part docuseries, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey.

“There is nothing more horrific than an innocent child being murdered,” Berlinger tells Netflix, “But combine...

Instant Emmy prediction data shows ‘The Studio’ and ‘Severance’ out to early leads, with ‘Hacks’ and ‘The Pitt’ lurking
Image
A day after the 2025 Emmy nominations were announced, Gold Derby is unveiling our first snapshot of winner predictions in the 26 categories to be presented live on CBS on Sept. 14. A caveat: This data is based on initial polling of our experts, editors, and users; expect the races to vacillate and tighten as we collect more input and get closer to the ceremony.

Comedy

For the comedy genre, The Studio is expected to win three of the seven top races: Best Comedy Series, Best Comedy Actor (Seth Rogen), and Best Comedy Directing ("The Oner"). Apple TV+'s new show made Emmys history with 23 nominations, the most ever for a freshman outing. Rival series Hacks, which won the series race last year, is also out front in three categories: Best Comedy Actress, Best Comedy Supporting Actress, and Best Comedy Writing ("A Slippery Slope"). Finally, Shrinking is poised to get on the board...

HBO confirms long wait ahead for The Last of Us season 3, plus major creative changes
Image
It's official: HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed to Variety that The Last of Us won't return until 2027. Between that and the premiere of Harry Potter, 2027 is shaping up to be a major year for HBO.

Moving forward, The Last of Us will make significant changes onscreen and behind the scenes. Pedro Pascal's role as Joel is mostly wrapped. The story will move forward by showing us the events of season 2 from Abby's point of view, exploring the ongoing tension between her and Ellie (Bella Rasmey). As for the behind-the-scenes changes, expect a huge creative shift as Naughty Dog lead and The Last of Us game co-creator Neil Druckmann exits to refocus on the gaming world, leaving the HBO show in the capable hands of co-showrunner Craig Mazin.

Bloys expressed understanding about Druckmann's prior commitments, noting that he has "a full time job creating video games and running Naughty Dog.

HBO CEO Confirms The Last of Us' Season 3 Release Date
Image
The Last of Us might be Emmy-nominated, but it'll take a while before the show graces HBO screens again.

Speaking to Variety, HBO CEO Casey Bloys dropped more information about The Last of Us' future and how long it will take to adapt the rest of The Last of Us Part II. "The series is definitely planned for 2027," Bloys said regarding season 3's release date, though he revealed showrunner Craig Mazin "is still working it out whether it will be two more seasons or one more long season. It hasn't been decided yet, and I'm following Craig's lead on that."

Unlike the previous seasons, Mazin will be the sole showrunner going into season 3, with Neil Druckmann and writer Halley Gross -- who co-wrote Part II's story with Druckmann -- announcing they will step away from the show earlier this month. According to Bloys, this decision was a result of Druckmann...

Kathy Bates aims to become the oldest Drama Actress winner in Emmys history, surpassing Glenn Close
Image
Here's a case for Matlock to solve: will Kathy Bates make Emmys history this year?

In 2009, then-62-year-old Glenn Close became the oldest Best Drama Actress winner to date. It was her second consecutive trophy for Damages, and when she won the year prior at age 61, she overtook the category's previous oldest champion, Sally Field, who was 60 when she prevailed for Brothers & Sisters in 2007.

Bates turned 77 on June 28, which means, should she prevail at the 2025 Emmys on Sept. 14, she'd beat Close's record by 15 years. But as we all know, age is just a number!

"I am deeply grateful to the Television Academy for this honor," said the former Best Actress Oscar winner for 1980s' Misery. "My heartfelt thanks to CBS ... for believing in us every step of the way on this beautiful journey and for being such delightful people to work with. Every day on set is a gift thanks to the dedication,...

Emmys Diversity Report 2025: LGBTQ and Black Performers Thrive, but Overall Poc Representation Is Down
Image
First, the good news about this year’s Emmy nominees: Queer, Black, Asian and Latino performers made history. The less good news: Overall representation is down for people of color, especially for folks of Asian and indigenous descent.

Of the 92 total performers nominated in the acting categories, 24 of them are people of color, a dip from 2024, when Asian, Latino and Black actors made significant strides, with 30 nominees.

This year, members of the LGBTQ community did well across all categories. Bella Ramsey picked up their second Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for HBO’s “The Last of Us,” becoming the only nonbinary performer to be twice nominated for acting Emmys. This bit of history builds on Ramsey’s own milestone from 2023, when they became the first openly nonbinary actor to be nominated in a lead acting category.

Queer actors were particularly well represented in the supporting actor in a comedy series category,...

Emmy Awards 2025: Severance, The Studio, And The Penguin Lead 77th Emmys Nominations
Image
It's about that time again, people. The Oscars are over, the BAFTAs are behind us, and the Golden Globes were certainly a thing that happened, so all eyes are now firmly locked on the 2025 Emmy Awards. And this afternoon, Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song took to the stage of the Wolf Theatre in the Saban Media Centre to unveil the nominees for this year's upcoming 77th Emmys. And after what has been a pretty exceptional past twelve months in the world of television, Apple TV+'s Severance finds itself in(nie) pole position. Dan Erickson's water cooler dominating sci-fi series leads the pack so far with a staggering 27 nominations, while HBO's The Penguin and Apple's own The Studio are nipping at its heels with a heady 24 and 23 nods of their own respectively.

Severance heads up a sure-to-be hotly contested Outstanding Drama Series field, where it'll face off against Andor,...

2025 Emmy Nominations: Winners and Losers
Image
The 2025 Emmy Nominations had seemed rather dull leading up to nomination morning, which, of course, meant we were in for a few surprises. Lo and behold, they came early and often. Below, we’ve got some of the big players and who really missed when it mattered most.

2025 Emmy Nomination Winners and Losers Winner: HBO

A massive haul for The Penguin helped lead the way for the multi-media TV network to secure a total of 142 nominations. This jumps the network up fifty nominations for last year, and even better news, they scored some truly inspired nominations. Alongside The Penguin, Hacks picked up 14 nominations, The Pitt picked up double nominations for Directing and Writing on its way to 13 nominations, and The Rehearsal picked up nominations. Even with underperformance from House of the Dragon and Dune: Part Two, the network was still able to secure 23 total programs with at least one nomination.

‘The Last of Us’ earns 16 Emmy nominations — but has 3 shocking snubs
Image
Emmy voters are still infected with The Last of Us, rewarding the zombified series with 16 nominations on Tuesday, including Best Drama Series. Notably, Season 2 of HBO's adaptation of the popular video-game series didn't get everything for which it submitted, and there are three notable snubs that are causing an uproar on social media: supporting actress Isabela Merced, and the standout episode "Through The Valley" in both directing and writing.

Here are the categories The Last of Us got into — and missed.

Best Drama Series: Nominated

It was never a question whether the fungal apocalypse drama would receive a series bid, since Season 1 scored 24 nominations and won eight trophies in 2023. The Last of Us ended up placing fourth in Gold Derby's Best Drama Series predictions by the time the nominations were announced. It finds itself nominated alongside Andor, The Diplomat, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus.

Bella Ramsey Becomes First Non-Binary Person to Earn Two Emmy Nominations
Image
Bella Ramsey is making history for the non-binary community. On Tuesday, the non-binary actor earned a nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for their role in The Last of Us Season 2 — and with the nod, they become the first non-binary person to earn more than one Emmy nomination.

Ramsey was first nominated in this category in 2023 for their role as Ellie in the show’s first season.

Ramsey has been very clear that gendered awards are “very important” despite their non-binary identity. In an interview with Louis Theroux in May,...

'The Last of Us' Star Bella Ramsey Lands Historic Emmy Nomination
Image
The Last of Us Season 2 may have proved to be one of the most divisive pieces of television this year, but it seems HBO's bold approach to the video game material won't go unrecognized during the awards season. The leading star of the post-apocalyptic drama has nabbed one of the most coveted nominations at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for portraying Ellie in Season 2. With the historic nomination, Ramsey becomes the first openly non-binary actor to be nominated more than once at the Emmys. It's a well-deserved accomplishment that speaks to how strong their performance was despite a controversial adaptation of the source material. Ramsey had already been a lead on the HBO series since 2023, but Season 2 saw Ellie thrust into the spotlight as the sole protagonist.

Bella Ramsey Makes Emmys History As First Openly Non-Binary Actor To Be Nominated More Than Once With Another ‘The Last Of Us’ Nom
Image
Bella Ramsey received their second Emmy nomination Tuesday morning, making history as the first non-binary performer to earn more than one nom from the Television Academy.

Ramsey is one of five nominees in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for their performance as Ellie in Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us. They also were nominated for the same role at the 75th Emmy Awards in 2023.

The Last of Us scored 16 nominations for the upcoming 77th Emmy Awards, bringing the series’ total to 40 across two seasons. The series won eight golden statuettes in 2024.

There have been few openly non-binary and transgender performers to be nominated at the Emmy Awards. In 2023, Yellowjackets star Liv Hewson declined to submit for the acting categories at the Emmys because the categories are separated to recognize male and female actors separately.
