Review: Echoes of Darkness: A Star Wars Fan Film - One of the strongest fan-made Star Wars offerings to date
Image
A new fan-made project called Echoes of Darkness: A Star Wars Fan Film has just been uploaded to YouTube, and it will definitely impress anyone who watches it.

Written and directed by Gary Scullion, who also helmed fan films such as The Witcher 3: The Sorceress of Vengerberg and Mission: Implausible, Echoes of Darkness can now be viewed on the channel of his production company, Sneaky Zebra. The fan film focuses on a ragtag group of smugglers who travel to the Forest Moon of Endor in order to retrieve Darth Vader's burned armor, so that they can sell it to the First Order.

As longtime fans will be aware, Anakin’s body disappeared as he became one with the Force shortly after his death. Therefore, Luke’s burning of the empty armor at the end of Return of the Jedi was more of a symbolic gesture which represented his...

HorRHIFFic 2025: ‘Virus Detected’ Review
Image
Stars: Stacy Hart, Amber Doig-Thorne, Annabella Rich, Charlie Bond, James Hamer-Morton, Matthew Batte, Rose Granger, Dhean Morris, Andrew Spooner | Directed by Charlie Bond, James Hamer-Morton, Paul Cousins, Geoff Harmer, Chris Josty, James Morrissey, James Plumb, Samuel Rush

Virus Detected is a 2025 British horror anthology that delves into the sinister side of technology. The film is structured around a late-night radio show hosted by “Irritable Jo,” portrayed by Stacy Hart. During an intense electrical storm, Jo receives unsettling calls from a mysterious listener sharing eerie tales of electronic devices behaving malevolently. These narratives form the core of the anthology, each exploring a unique technological terror.

The anthology comprises several segments, each helmed by different directors: Mic Drop, is directed by Charlie Bond and James Hamer-Morton; Bad Penny comes from director Paul Cousins. Meanwhile, director Geoff Harmer helms Shock Jock and The Little Ones; and Chris Josty gives us the film’s first tale Virtual Insanity.

HorRHIFFic 2025: ‘Video Shop Tales of Terror 2: Lust & Revenge’ Review
Image
Stars: Amber Doig-Thorne, Laurence R. Harvey, Dani Thompson, Ayvianna Snow, Simon Bamford, David Gelmini, Charlie Bond, Annabella Rich, Rami Hilmi, Sarah Rorbach, James Hamer-Morton | Directed by Angie Darling Baby, Alexander Churchyard, Paul Doherty, Andrew Elias, Bazz Hancher, Jason Impey, Debbie Lant, Tony Mardon, Hannah Paterson, Richard Rowntree, James Saxon, Teddy Saxon

As a fan of the first entry into this now-turned franchise, I was eager to finally get the chance to see the sequel, Video Shop Tales of Terror 2: Lust & Revenge. Like the first film, this second entry into the series promised a return to the nostalgic charm of retro VHS horror – delivering both scores and laughs, just like the first film, and it certainly delivered on both front.

The film comprises multiple segments, each offering a unique blend of terror and dark humour. Video Shop Tales of Terror 2: Lust & Revenge opens with a trailer for “The Beast...

‘Devil May Care’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Anaïs Marden, Annabella Rich, Nicole Katherine Riddell, Eliot Gibson, Aidan Harris, Jack Perry, James Hamer-Morton, Chris Mills | Written by Chuck Wagner | Directed by Sam Mason-Bell

Devil May Care is the latest film from Sam Mason-Bell. He’s a very busy man, with seventy-six credits as a director, eighty as a producer and then there are the ones as writer, cinematographer, etc. all since 2008. One wonders when he manages to sleep.

His latest attempt to keep everyone else from sleeping takes place in the woods outside of a sleepy English town. Three girls, Elaine (Anaïs Marden; For the Love of Eve), Missy and Pam hook up with three guys, Tom, Brad and Mac (Jack Perry). Their plans involve hiking out to the abandoned, and of course haunted, theatre out in the woods to drink, have sex and do anything else that might get them killed.

Like most of Mason-Bell’s films,...

Frightfest 2022: ‘Powertool Cheerleaders vs. The Boyband of the Screeching Dead’ Review
Image
Stars: Charlie Bond, James Hamer-Morton, Justin Chinyere, Dani Thompson, Faith Elizabeth, Megan Rose Buxton, Carrie Thompson, Liz Soutar, Annabella Rich, Lancelot Narayan, Rohin Dale, David Schaal | Written and Directed by Pat Higgins

On the eve of a televised talent show, an enthusiastic but dysfunctional cheerleading troop is on the brink of falling apart. But when a cursed necklace turns their rival boy band act into a screeching gang of zombies, the girls must learn to use their wits, friendship, and assorted power tools—before the TV finale takes a turn for the apocalyptic…

You know, I had no idea I needed another horror musical in my life after Anna and the Apocalypse but Powertool Cheerleaders vs. The Boyband of the Screeching Dead proved me wrong!

Much like Eating Miss Campbell, which also featured Charlie Bond and James Hamer-Morton, Powertool Cheerleaders vs. The Boyband of the Screeching Dead feels very much like a Troma movie.

Frightfest 2022: ‘Eating Miss Campbell’ Review
Image
Stars: Lyndsey Craine, Lala Barlow, Vito Trigo, James Hamer-Morton, Charlie Bond, Emily Haigh, Michaela Longden, Sierra Summers, Alexander J Skinner, Justin A. Martell, Annabella Rich, Dani Thompson, Laurence R. Harvey | Written and Directed by Liam Regan

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, despite the obvious age difference, I share writer-director Liam Regan’s fondness for satellite TV channel Bravo – especially during the “horned devil” logo years, where late nights were made up of cult TV shows, weird obscure films and a Ton of Troma movies. So much so that I too consider that period of the channel as a now legendary time in UK broadcasting. It was the channel that introduced me to a wider range of Troma movies outside of The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke’Em High (which were stalwarts of my local video shop And that guy that used to rent tapes...

‘The Haunting of Pendle Hill’ DVD Review
Image
Stars: Lowri Watts-Joyce, Noel McAlley, Jeffrey Charles Richards, Mark Topping, Jimmy ‘The Bee’ Bennett, James Hamer-Morton, Nicolas Ball | Written and Directed by Richard John Taylor

Having grown up in the shadow of Pendle Hill, there’s no way I could not check out a horror film set in the very area we learnt about in school, did plays about as kids, and walked up as adults. The story of the Pendle Witches was a subject that was, when I was in junior school, drummed into children alongside stories about the village of Eyam (I don’t know why schools in the area were so obsessed with the plague town some 2 hours dove away), the fairies of Burnley and the lost villages of Singleton Thorpe and Kilgrimol.

But it’s the Pendle witches which are the most [in]famous of the local “legends”, so it’s surprising that – given British horror has...

A spin-off from Mycho Pictures’ Slasher House series, Pandamonium tells the story of Jacob Jakushi (David Hon Ma Chu), the infamous ‘Stripper Ripper. Unfortunately for the company the strippers they’ve just hired have come with an unwanted guest… Jacob! With the party in full swing Jacob sets his sights on the girls and he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants; leading to a strippers versus Panda-headed serial killer showdown as the girls...

Horror-On-Sea 2018 Interview: James Hamer-Morton talks ‘Dead Love’
Dead Love is new unorthodox love story from writer and director Chris Gallagher, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask the films lead actor James Hamer-Morton a few questions about what attracted him to the film, memorable moments on set and having to simulate a relationship with a table voiced by Emily Booth.

What can we expect from the film Dead Love?

Dead Love is one of those genre films that has a heart. It’s more of a romance set within a horror framework; two people that should be unsuited to being with anybody find each other and through their time together end up with a relationship that we can all root for. There’s murder, bodily mutilation, cannibalism, and of course a ridiculous love triangle with a table, that never seem to overtake the real...

Frightfest 2015: ‘Banjo’ Review
Stars: James Hamer-Morton, Damian Morter, Laurence R. Harvey, Dan Palmer, Dani Thompson, Vito Trigo, David Curtis, Eloise Daye | Written and Directed by Liam Regan

It’s a credit to a film festival like Frightfest that so many of its attendees not only are wannabe filmmakers, but actually put their proverbial money where their mouth is and make movies – be they shorts that screen as part of the ever-popular Short Film Showcase and the fantastic Shortcuts to Hell competition the festival held last year or, as in the case of Banjo, full length features.

Based on the short film of the same name, Banjo tells the story of Peltzer Arbuckle, a bullied office employee, humiliated by his megalomaniac boss, teasing colleagues and cheating partner. Stuck in his mundane, nightmarish reality, once news about an embarrassing sexual accident circulates the workplace, Peltzer decides to put up with his misery no more, and...
