Quezon Trailer Launches Jericho Rosales As Tba’s Epic Closes In On October 15
Jericho Rosales
Tba Studios has released the first full trailer for Quezon, unveiling Jericho Rosales as Commonwealth-era leader Manuel L. Quezon and setting an October 15 theatrical debut in the Philippines. The historical drama completes director Jerrold Tarog’s long-planned “Bayaniverse,” following Heneral Luna and Goyo, and will roll out internationally after its local bow.

The footage frames Quezon’s rise as a high-stakes political contest rather than a marble statue biography. Scenes highlight clashes with U.S. Governor-General Leonard Wood, portrayed by Iain Glen, and a campaign showdown with Emilio Aguinaldo, played by Mon Confiado, as Quezon maneuvers allies and rivals on the road to the 1935 presidential election. Producer Daphne Chiu-Soon has said the creative goal is to humanize celebrated figures and invite audiences to interrogate leadership, a throughline that shaped the trilogy from the start.

An official synopsis positions the film after the revolution and during the American occupation, with Quezon...

Philippines’ Tba Studios Unveils ‘Quezon’ Trailer Starring Jericho Rosales & Iain Glen
Image
Philippines’ Tba Studios has unveiled the trailer for historical biopic Quezon, ahead of the film’s domestic theatrical release on October 15.

Starring Jericho Rosales (Siargao) as Manuel L. Quezon, the feature is part of Tba Studios’ “Bayaniverse” trilogy, a series of films based on Philippine history.

Other stars in the film include Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen, Benjamin Alves (Widows’ War), Mon Confiado (Exchange) and singer-actress Karylle.

The “Bayaniverse” includes Heneral Luna (2015), the Philippines’ highest-grossing historical movie of all time — as well as Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (2018). Jerrold Tarog directed both movies and returned to helm Quezon.

Tba Studios President and COO Daphne O. Chiu-Soon said that while Quezon is the conclusion to the film studio’s trilogy, Quezon is designed as a stand-alone film.

Following its premiere in the Philippines, Quezon will be released internationally at a later date.

The film was produced with the support of the...

Abs-cbn Boss On Partnering With Former Network Rival GMA On Filipino Variety Series ‘It’s Showtime’
Image
The CEO of Abs-cbn has lifted the lid on how the media conglom’s first variety show collaboration with former network rival GMA typifies a new era of business for the Filipino company.

Abs-cbs teamed with GMA to air the popular midday variety show It’s Showtime, which will air from April 6 on GMA’s main channel.

The series is a long-running franchise that first premiered in 2009 on Abs-cbn, 11 years before the company lost its broadcasting license due to a Philippines’ National Telecommunications Commission order in 2020.

Since then, the Filipino media giant has pivoted to focus on content production, partnering with other companies to distribute shows domestically. It’s Showtime is Abs-cbn’s second collaboration with GMA, after previously working together on drama series Unbreak My Heart last year. In exclusive comments made to Deadline, Abs-cbn CEO Carlo Katigbak explained the strategic pivot.

“Since the non-renewal of our franchise and...
