- Younger brother of British Prime Minister (Conservative, 1963-1964) Sir Alec Douglas-Home, and uncle of Robin Douglas-Home and Charles Douglas-Home.

- Was court-martialed in World War II for refusing to bomb civilians in the French port of Le Havre. He served eight months in prison, but the publicity resulted in his superior officer being relieved of command and demoted, and in civilians in the subsequent siege of Calais being allowed to evacuate.
- British playwright, the son of an earl. Educated at Eton and Oxford. Began as an actor, studied at RADA and appeared on stage from 1937.
- Wrote the play The Kngfisher which was produced in London's West End starring Celia Johnson and Ralph Richardson and directed by Lindsay Anderson.
