Spent his last few weeks lamenting his dwindling career on his Twitter feed and his personal blog, even going so far as to poke fun at how dire his situation had gone; in 2008, he noted, a producer told him he'd soon be driving his own Lambo, whereas now, only ten years later, he noted he would be lucky "to get a job as a valet at a car park.".

Though he hung himself in April 2018, his body was not found until July, when his ex-girlfriend (and mother of his child) went looking for him. To that point, none of his friends or family had heard from him, and many had feared he took his own life, but with Iron situated in Ireland at that time, and not having had any connections there (but for his ex-girlfriend, whom he was estranged from), there was no way to verify his death until she went looking for him. Ironically, Irons' blog remained online, and would automatically update every time a video of his was sold, posthumously notifying readers of these updates.

One of several cast or crew members of the notorious "Meatholes" line of pornographic films to end or find themselves in a tragic situation. Iron committed suicide, as did fellow performers Jake Malone and Jon Dough, while producer and creator of the series, Khan Tusion (Mark Handle) was eventually sentenced to jail time, after pleading guilty to one count of making a false statement in bankruptcy and one count of subscribing to a false tax return.
