Joined J. C. Williamson Theatres in the early 1960s, launching himself into a series of stage musicals commencing with "Camelot" (playing 70-year-old Squire Dap, aged 21, and where he met his future wife), "Hello, Dolly!", "The Boys from Syracuse", "The Fantastics" and "Half A Sixpence".

Whilst working on As Prisioneiras (1979), he was also appearing in evening theatre-restaurant entertainment at the acclaimed Nero's Fiddle on Mitcham's Whitehorse Road, four nights a week. He'd done similar during his stint in Bellbird (1967).

Spent fifteen months with his wife Sue touring Europe and the Middle East as members of the Take Five vocal group in the late '60s.
