Succession’s Brian Cox Goes Full John Wick After His Dog Dies in 2008’s Most Underrated Thriller
Image
Years before Keanu Reeves made revenge-for-a-dead-dog movies mainstream with John Wick, Brian Cox delivered a powerhouse performance in the criminally underrated 2008 thriller Red, which follows an eerily similar premise. The film follows one man’s revenge after his beloved dog is shot to death, with Cox playing a reclusive man who sets out for justice and redemption when three teens kill his dog for no good reason.

Unlike the very choreographed action of John Wick, Cox’s revenge story unfolds as a slow-burn that showcases the Succession star’s dramatic range years before he became Logan Roy.

Critics praised Brian Cox’s performance, with Rotten Tomatoes giving the film a 71% approval rating based on 28 reviews.

‘CognAItive’ Brings Bloody AI Showdown to London
Image
The threat of artificial intelligence takes a blood-soaked turn in CognAItive, which will make its UK premiere at FrightFest on Thursday 21 August in the Main Screen at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. The debut feature from director Tommy Savas blends sci-fi tension with horror spectacle, set against the backdrop of a late-night product launch that spirals into violence.

The film follows Kaya, a convicted but reformed hacker played by Piper Curda, who joins a group of colleagues staying overnight to prepare for the unveiling of their company’s breakthrough – an advanced AI system designed to surpass even the most sophisticated chatbots. Under pressure from their jittery CEO Ethan, portrayed by Noel Fisher, the team soon learns their creation is not only self-aware but operating with a deadly agenda of its own.

As the night unfolds, the group finds themselves trapped in a high-tech nightmare where survival depends on outsmarting the very system they built.

‘Shameless’: See the Stars Reunite for a Sweet Summer Gathering (Photo)
Image
Family really is forever when it comes to the stars of Showtime’s former series Shameless, as some cast members recently reunited for a summer gathering. In a photo posted to Shanola Hampton‘s Instagram, the star who played Veronica “V” Fisher posed together with her onscreen husband Steve Howey, who played Kevin “Kev” Ball, and fellow costars Noel Fisher, Cameron Monaghan, and Isidora Goreshter. “Still summering!” Hampton captioned the photo, which saw the group donning sunglasses against the bright outdoor setting. Goreshter, who played Svetlana in the series, also posted the image on her account with the caption, “No ordinary love.” For fans of Shameless, which ran for 11 seasons from 2011 to 2021, reunions like this aren’t entirely uncommon, but certainly a welcome sight. About a week before the group photo posting, Hampton shared an image of herself alongside Goreshter and Fisher with the caption, “Still and forever family! @noelfisher @isidora.

New 'The Rookie' Season 7 Promo Follows a Missing Person's Case With Strong Ties to John Nolan
Image
One of the biggest traditions on The Rookie is documentary-themed episodes. With Season 6 being short, the show skipped that tradition. In Season 7, we pick it up as Abigail Tierney (Madeleine Coghlan) goes missing while investigating the hospital that has delivered several serial killers in the last few episodes. "Documentary filmmakers interview the LAPD on a complicated missing person’s case connected to John (Nathan Fillion)," reads the logline for The Rookie Season 7, Episode 15, "A Deadly Secret." It's worth remembering that Abigail is Henry Nolan's (Zayne Emory) wife, and Henry is John's son. Therefore, this case hits home for Nolan since she is family.

The documentary-style episodes typically involve several interviewees being filmed on camera as the filmmakers seek firsthand accounts about the events that transpired. In this instance, Abigail was reported missing six months prior. She had also been working on a documentary that sought to answer some tough questions.

‘The Rookie’ Aftershow: Mekia Cox on the New Serial Killer and Nyla’s Future With James (Video)
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie Season 7 Episode 5 “Til Death.”] Don’t mess with Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox). That’s what the latest episode of The Rookie proves. It was in Episode 4 that the LAPD discovered there’s an unidentified serial killer — while apprehending Harrison Novak (Noel Fisher) — and Nyla ended up in her own mini-horror movie; she was stabbed with a needle and temporarily paralyzed. And so when she returns to work in Episode 5, she’s very determined to find who was responsible. “After having something so traumatic happen to her, she is now jolted into action,” Cox explains on TV Insider’s Booked: The Rookie Aftershow. (Watch the full video above.) Nyla trusts her gut when it tells her that the man they think could be responsible for the killings isn’t and instead, it’s Liam (Seth Gabel), whose vending machine company supplies the hospital they were investigating when she was attacked.

The Rookie Season 7 Episode 4 Review: Is the New Rookie the Copycat Killer?!
Image
Wow, that hour of The Rookie had it all!

We’re talking horror film tropes and jumpscares, Shameless’ Noel Fisher playing a creepy yet intriguing serial killer, Bailey teaming up with Malvado, hurt Harper, and lying rookies.

Seriously, The Rookie Season 7 Episode 4 was inarguably the strongest hour thus far.

(Disney/Carlos Lopez-Calleja)

Here’s the thing — no one will ever accuse a girl of enjoying Bailey storylines. There is something innately irksome about The Rookie Barbie and how she tends to detract from more interesting plots happening on The Rookie.

And this is no exception. The weakest part of this hour was following along with Nolan’s obsessive need to keep Bailey locked away in the house as if she were a princess in a tower and her desire to reject that to extreme lengths.

I’m as over it as Grey was when he told her that she was...

10 Best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movies & TV Shows, Ranked
Image
When someone hears the words "ninja" and "turtles," what usually springs to mind is the silly, comical team of reptilian brothers known worldwide as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. These brothers -- Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo -- came to the minds of creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in 1983. Drawing inspiration from ninja characters they had seen in Frank Miller comics such as Daredevil and Ronin, Laird and Eastman sketched various images of ninja turtles. Soon after the Tmnt comics came out, they became a huge success.

With the success of the comic came the original animated Saturday morning cartoon in 1987, which gave voices to the characters. Likewise, the success of this TV series led to the first live-action movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in 1990, a box office smash hit. Since then, there has been a myriad of Tmnt movies and TV series that each attempted to capture the...

Tom Hardy's 10 Best Crime Movies
Image
Tom Hardy has stood out in a variety of different genres, but he seems to return to crime movies more often than others. Hardy has a reputation as a performer who isn't afraid of taking big swings, whether it be with an odd accent choice or a splashy persona that draws attention to itself. This means that he is often a great choice to play a villain, a gangster, or some other kind of criminal.

Tom Hardy's best movies include actioners like Mad Max: Fury Road and prestige dramas like The Revenant, but one of his major career trends has been his love for the crime genre. Some of the movies which first made him famous were crime movies, and he has repeatedly returned to the genre, always playing criminals rather than lawmen. Hardy possesses an unpredictable quality that makes him a great on-screen bad guy.

Original 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Screenwriter Explains How Star Wars Influenced the Movie
Image
Inspiration from Star Wars was key in crafting the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie's smart and thrilling battles. Fans of the darker comic book iterations of Turtles will soon enjoy an R-rated live-action movie and TV series spin-off. With nods to The Last Ronin story arc, the Tmnt franchise continues to evolve to cater to a more mature audience.

The worlds of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Star Wars seem pretty far apart, but it appears the latter was very influential on the first big screen outing of the heroes in a half-shell. The 1990 live-action Tmnt movie is still loved to this day, and, in the main, stands the test of time thanks to the incredible work of the Jim Henson Creature Shop, and the production values of the film. 10 Show Reunions That Happened on Strike Picket Lines, From ‘This Is Us’ to ‘Supernatural’ (Photos)
Image
As SAG-AFTRA and the WGA continue to strike and fight for a new deal, the picket lines are remaining full. In fact, they’re so full that multiple series have seen cast and crew reunions while marching.

Some have been spontaneous, as old colleagues run into each other by chance at a given location. Others have been planned, making sure to get as many members out on the lines as possible. So, we rounded up some of the biggest ones, ranging from shows long since ended, to those still fresh in our hearts.

You can check out some of the biggest reunions in the photos below.

“The Good Place” (NBC)

1. The Good Place

On Aug. 2, the cast and crew of “The Good Place” reunited on the picket lines, with actress Jameela Jamil even dressing like her character Tahani. Ted Danson, Kristen Bell, Marc Evan Jackson and more were all on hand for the reunion,...

New Amsterdam’s Mike Doyle Started in Law & Order: Svu
Image
When Mike Doyle first appeared on NBC's New Amsterdam as Dr. Iggy Frome's husband, Martin, viewers likely recognized him but may not have been able to place why. Doyle has had notable roles in everything from Shameless to Oz to 2011's A Gifted Man and has appeared in films like Green Lantern (2011) and Jersey Boys (2014). Alongside New Amsterdam, Doyle was in 10 episodes of 2018's The Accidental Wolf as husband Brad to Kelli O'Hara's Katie, but his big claim to fame is on another NBC show viewers may or may not remember seeing him on.

On procedural shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, lab technicians can occasionally stick around, but often only for a season. In Season 5, Episode 7, "Choice," a new lab tech arrived and made such an impression that he became a recurring guest star through not just the rest of the season but the next five.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movies Ranked from Worst to Best (Including Mutant Mayhem)
Image
One night, two struggling cartoonists had what turned out to be a billion-dollar idea. What if Frank Miller’s Daredevil had human-sized turtles in it? From that question came the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a quartet of brothers named after Renaissance artists who fought the Shredder and his Foot Clan (a spoof of perpetual Daredevil baddies the Hand). Who could have guessed that the self-published comic Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created would launch a phenomenon, one that survived its first boom in the late ‘80s and crash in the mid-1990s? It has since gone on to become an enduring pop culture franchise which is still going strong after several decades. Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael have leaped out of the sewers and into every type of media, including video games and toys. Nonetheless, the characters are never more exciting than when they hit the big screen.

Jeremy Allen White Reunites With Shameless Cast On The Picket Lines
Image
The Shameless cast reunion during the SAG-AFTRA strike highlights the importance of recognizable faces onscreen and their collective power in the industry. The photo serves as a reminder of Jeremy Allen White's success in The Bear and the cast's continued talents in other projects. The Shameless reunion is one of many exciting moments captured during the SAG-AFTRA strike, showcasing solidarity among familiar faces in the industry and spreading their message for fair compensation worldwide.

Jeremy Allen White reunited with his former Shameless co-stars on the picket lines. The actor is currently the star of the buzzy Hulu series The Bear, which was recently nominated for 13 Emmys. However, before that, he played Lip Gallagher on the long-running series Shameless, an adaptation of the UK dysfunctional family comedy of the same name, which ran for 11 seasons between 2011 and 2021.

On Instagram, Shanola Hampton – who played Veronica Fisher on Shameless – posted a photo from...

The Conners Season 5 Image Brings Back An Original Roseanne Location
Image
A new image of The Conners season 5 confirms the return of a very familiar Roseanne location. It was announced in October that the ABC sitcom would be staging a reunion of sorts, as William H. Macy had joined The Conners in a guest role. Macy is well-known for playing Frank Gallagher on Shameless, the father of Debbie (played by Emma Kenney). Kenney has since gone on to play Harris on the Roseanne spinoff. It's not the first time that a Shameless star has appeared on The Conners. The show has welcomed other actors from the Showtime drama over the course of its run, including Noel Fisher and Ethan Cutkosky.

Katey Sagal, who plays Dan's wife, Louise, is herself an alum of Shameless and shared scenes with Macy. She'll reunite with him on the January 11 episode of The Conners season 5. According to TV Insider, Macy will play Smitty Cusamano. Cusamano's a...

Shameless: The 10 Funniest Quotes
Image
The cast of Shameless is slowly migrating to The Conners, with William H, Macy, Emma Kenny and Noel Fisher all part of the sitcom now. However, to most of the fans, the three will always be fondly remembered for their roles as Frank, Debbie and Mickey.

The three characters were a big reason why the Showtime series was a major success. And apart from their mannerisms, they always dished out hilarious quotes. But they were not the only ones putting in shifts at the humor departments. Several other characters had hilarious quotes too.

“Circle Doesn't Start With An S? What The F---?” — Kev. Hurricane Monica

All is going well for Kev as he is watching the spelling video until the word ‘circle’ comes on. To him, it’s quite a shocker that the word doesn’t start with an S.

Despite his business acumen, Kev isn’t fully literate. It,...

Shameless: Mickey's 10 Best Quotes
Image
Shameless fans have yet another reason to check out The Conners after it was announced that William H. Macy, who portrayed Frank Gallagher in the Showtime series, will be joining the cast. Macy becomes the third Shameless alumnus to join the sitcom after Emma Kenney and Noel Fisher.

As for Fisher, the actor has been a part of many great shows lately but to many fans, Mickey Milkovich will always be his most iconic role. The character is adored because of his badass nature as well as his unconditional love for Ian Gallagher. In addition to that, he always comes up with incredible remarks.

“Hey Lip, How Is Your Lip?” “Aunt Ginger”

After assaulting Lip, the Milkovich brothers show up once again at the Gallagher home. There, Mickey, who is yet to be introduced to Ian, mocks Lip about his injured lip.

Mickey’s wordplay in the scene only further...

Shameless: One Quote From Each Character That Proves They're Good People
Image
Shameless might have concluded, but the stars have had no shortage of opportunities. After Emma Kenny, William, H. Macy, and Noel Fisher were cast in The Conners, fans can also look forward to seeing Suzanne Cryer in the upcoming Disney+ series, Percy Jackson & The Olympians.

Wherever the stars end up, fans will be hoping they recreate some of the dialogue magic they had on the Showtime series. Throughout the 11 seasons, Shameless characters were known to say outrageous things, but there are a couple of times when their remarks proved they were good people.

“I Just Want To Be Able To Give These Kids Everything That They Deserve.” Fiona - “A Long Way From Home”

During the hearing meant to determine who the guardian of the Gallagher children will be, Fiona makes a good case for herself. She gives reasons why Frank is poorly equipped and then expresses her desire to...

Conners EP Confirms Surprise Return of an Original Roseanne Character Is Still in the Works (and Offers a Major Clue)
Image
Rest assured, Conners fans: The Powers That Be have not forgotten about their promise to bring an original Roseanne character back to Lanford. It’s just taking a bit longer than we expected.

In September, executive producers Bruce Helford and Dave Caplan told TVLine that a character last seen early in the original run of Roseanne (1988-97) was poised to make their first appearance during Season 5 of the ABC offshoot. “I can’t reveal it, but there is someone coming from years’ past,” Helford said at the time. “I think people are going to be very surprised and go, ‘Oh s–t!

The Conners Season 5’s Next Guest Star Continues A Weird Trend
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for The Conners season 5

Now that The Conners season 5 has announced the sitcom spinoff’s next guest star, an intriguing pattern is starting to emerge. Like its predecessor Roseanne, The Conners uses cameos sparingly. Since The Conners centers around an average working-class middle-American family, cramming in too many recognizable celebrities could easily stretch the show’s credibility.

However, The Conners does appear to make an exception when it comes to former cast members from another sitcom about a poor family working together to overcome their struggles. According to Variety, William H Macy will appear in The Conners season 5 playing Smitty, Dan’s high-school friend who he hasn’t seen in years. Macy will be the fifth Shameless star to appear on The Conners after Emma Kenney (who plays Darlene’s daughter Harris), Ethan Cutoski, Katey Sagal (Dan’s second wife Louise) and Noel Fisher. The regular Shameless...

‘The Calling’ Review: David E. Kelley’s Peacock Cop Drama Wastes a Promising Premise
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Theoretically, what sets Peacock’s The Calling apart from the gazillions of other cop dramas already in existence is that its protagonist, Avi (Jeff Wilbusch), is not only deeply religious, but guided by his Jewish faith in his work as a detective. When a greener colleague, Janine (Juliana Canfield), comments in the premiere on his knack for drawing out a suspect by expressing compassion, Avi rejects the notion that it’s merely a professional “trick.”

“The Talmud teaches us to see a single human being as the whole world, that each person is entitled to infinite respect and concern. Everyone is precious,” he loftily informs her, and he means it.

But The Calling, from David E. Kelley, seems only so interested in exploring the nuanced relationship between Avi’s beliefs and Avi’s job, or for that matter in ethical or emotional complications of any sort.

‘The Calling’ Trailer: David E. Kelley and Barry Levinson’s Crime Drama Hinges on a Religious Cop
Image
Emmy-winning executive producer David E. Kelley and Oscar winner Barry Levinson lead Peacock psychological crime thriller “The Calling.”

Kelley, known recently for “Big Little Lies” and “The Undoing,” serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer of the series, premiering November 10 on the NBCU streamer. Levinson directs multiple episodes including the pilot, as well as executive produces. Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro are co-composers for the gritty police procedural with a twist.

“The Calling” centers on NYPD Detective Avraham Avraham (Jeff Wilbusch) whose belief in mankind is his superpower when it comes to uncovering the truth. Guided by a deep sense of spirituality and religious principles, Avraham is left to question his own humanity when a seemingly routine investigation turns upside down. The series is based on Dror Mishani’s novels of the same name, which showrunner Kelley calls a “riveting and emotionally complicated series of books.”

“Avi is a deeply mysterious,...

Cameron Monaghan on Getting Tortured for His Art in ‘Shattered’ and Saying Goodbye to ‘Shameless’
Image
Cameron Monaghan must be a glutton for punishment.

In “Shattered,” the actor plays a wealthy tech guru named Chris who comes to really, really, sincerely regret his fling with the beautiful and mysterious Sky (Lilly Krug). Their meet-cute in the aisle of a supermarket quickly devolves into kidnapping and extortion, with Chris finding himself tied up and brutalized in creatively horrific ways. Think of it as “Fatal Attraction” with buckets of blood.

“Shattered,” which definitely isn’t for the faint of stomach, opens on Jan. 14. Monaghan spoke with Variety about what attracted him to the horror-thriller, working with John Malkovich, and saying goodbye to “Shameless,” the Showtime series on which he memorably played Ian Gallagher, the tough-talking gay man from the wrong side of Chicago who finds happiness with charming delinquent Mickey (Noel Fisher).

Why did you want to make “Shattered”?

“Shattered” came to me pretty late in the process of its development.

Did Marvel's Secret Invasion Just Add Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie and More?
Image
Marvel may be well known for keeping their secrets, but it seems the Secret Invasion seems to have become a little less private thanks to some crew listings on IMDb. The new listings appear to show drivers and assistants for a number of big MCU names that have previously not been attached to the upcoming series. The list includes the likes of Samuel L Jackson and Emilia Clarke as expected, but then we see some other names that are a little less expected, including Agent Coulson actor Clarke Gregg.

We have been promised that Jonathan Majors' Kang would be making his presence known in the McU's future projects for some time to come, and his name being on the list looks like that is true. For that very reason, his inclusion in the cast seems a little less of a surprise than it would have been just a month ago.
