Mike was an original member of the comedy rock band 'The HeeBeeGeeBees' whose song "Meaningless Songs in Very High Voices" was a number one hit in Australia. Angus Deayton and Philip Pope were the other members and lyrics were written by Richard Curtis of Quatro Casamentos e um Funeral (1994) fame.

Had a number one single in the UK when he sang "The Chicken Song" from the TV series Spitting Image (1984).

Sang "Feed the World" live on stage with Bob Geldof, Midge Ure, Kate Bush, Rowan Atkinson and Ben Elton at the first Comic Relief stage show at the Shaftesbury Theatre London.
