Disney+ has renewed “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” for a fourth season ahead of the Season 3 premiere on Aug. 6. Season 4 will debut sometime in 2026.

The animated sitcom is a reboot of Disney Channel’s “The Proud Family,” which aired from 2001 to 2005. Both are created and executive produced by Bruce W. Smith, who teamed up with executive producer, songwriter and composer Ralph Farquhar for the new show.

Ahead of its Season 3 premiere, Disney has announced a Season 4 renewal for The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. Season 3 is set to debut Thursday, August 6 on Disney+. Season 4 will launch on Disney+ in 2026. The streamer also released a Season 3 trailer, which you can view above.

Today, Disney Branded Television announced that the third season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will premiere on Thursday, August 6, on Disney+. Ahead of its summer debut, the series has also been renewed for a fourth season, set to arrive on Disney+ in 2026.

A skillful update of the 1975 Judy Blume novel of the same name chronicling two teens experiencing first love, the series stars Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. as two Black student athletes in 2018 Los Angeles as they romance each other while dealing with the pressures of their very different parents. Swoony and evocative, it’s a rare show that centers the experiences of Black teens — and Akil herself was touched by the response from those who saw themselves in the characters.

Last July, inside an impeccably decorated Mid-Century modern home built on a Sunset Gower Studios, stood Mara Brok Akil. The acclaimed writer behind Girlfriends, The Game and Being Mary Jane was talking to a director on Forever, her latest show for Netflix, while a couple of yards away, a group of writers sitting at video village was watching the interaction on the monitors.

Hollywood fundraising continues this weekend for Kamala Harris, as Debbie Allen, Don Cheadle and Sheryl Lee Ralph are among the co-chairs of an event with the Democratic presidential nominee’s sister, Maya Harris.

The Sunday event is billed as a Black Hollywood and Friends reception for the Harris Victory Fund.

It took a long time, but mainstream cartoons are finally coming out of the closet. Now, we can only hope they stay that way.

When live-action television began making inroads for gay representation during the turn of the century, animation remained a frustratingly straight (if frequently queer-coded) affair. The reasons behind the medium’s slowness were obvious and, predictably, homophobic. Animation is too often seen as content made for kids, and same-sex attraction is regarded as an “adult” topic. So, pearl-clutching TV critics would argue, children shouldn’t be exposed to “adult” (read: gay) characters through raunchy cartoons.

That’s not to say that there weren’t LGBTQ people in cartoons before the 2010s; Japanese anime, in particular, was slightly ahead of the curve on this front, with ’90s classics like “Sailor Moon” and “Neon Genesis Evangelion” featuring explicitly queer themes and love stories. But that content was often mercilessly...

Mo’Nique has filed a lawsuit alleging that Paramount and CBS owe her millions in profit participation from her show “The Parkers.”

The show ran for five seasons on Upn, from 1999 through 2004. The show’s creators — Ralph Farquhar, Sara Finney-Johnson and Vida Spears — filed a similar lawsuit last June, alleging that CBS had engaged in various forms of “financial malfeasance” to artificially inflate expenses and suppress profit payments. The network settled that case out of court in November.

Mo’Nique, whose legal name is Monique Hicks, filed her own suit on Wednesday, repeating many of the claims in the show creators’ lawsuit.

The suit notes that the production company, Big Ticket Productions, and Upn were both owned by Viacom, and alleges that Upn was allowed to pay a below-market fee to distribute the show. The suit also suggests that the show was packaged for cable distribution at below-market rates, further depressing its profitability.

Executive producer Ralph Farquhar reveals previous plans for a live-action version of The Proud Family. The Disney Channel animated series, following the adventures of Penny Proud, aired from 2001-2005 and originally concluded with the release of The Proud Family Movie. A success at the time, many praised the show for its representation as well as its humor and exploration of early teenage years. A revival titled The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder premiered on Disney+ in 2022. It features the return of original voice actors Kyla Pratt, Karen Malina White, Jo Marie Payton, Paula Jai Parker, Tommy Davidson, and more.

Prior to the release of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, a potential reboot seemed a possibility considering the original only consisted of two seasons. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Farquhar revealed that he and creator Bruce W. Smith made pitches to continue the show, which included a live-action version.

It's hard to overstate the importance of Bruce W. Smith's "The Proud Family." The Disney Channel animated series was one of the first animated shows with a Black creator and a majority Black cast, unafraid to explore subjects like race, class, and cultural differences in a way that young audiences could understand. The show originally ran from 2001-2005, with 52 episodes, and the film, "The Proud Family Movie," marked the end of the series. That is, until Disney+ came calling and rebooted the series for a new generation.

Now in its second season, "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder" continues the saga of The Proud Family and their diverse community of friends, family, and colleagues. /Film's own Rafael Motamayor recently spoke with show creator Bruce W. Smith and longtime producer Ralph Farquhar about continuing the series and gave some exclusive insight into what it's like working for the House of Mouse.

The Proud Family has a long and storied history behind it, having first premiered on The Disney Channel in 2001. It went on to define a generation through its unique visual style and off-the-wall family humor, while also pushing narrative boundaries thanks to its frank discussions of important issues. The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder furthered that legacy admirably when it hit Disney+ in early 2022. Despite arriving two decades after the original, the characters remained the same age and (mostly) played by the same actors, which allowed viewers to experience familiarity and the excitement of a new start all at once.

The early '00s were a fascinating time for animated shows. You still had plenty of genre-heavy cartoons that followed in the tradition of Saturday morning shows and the kind of experimental and irreverent tones of early Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon projects. But there was also a wave of cartoon comedy-dramas about tweens and teens that took a rather grounded approach to telling stories, while still offering some cartoony weirdness that makes them stand out -- shows like "As Told By Ginger," "The Weekenders," "Hey Arnold," and also "The Proud Family."

"The Proud Family," in particular, was a big deal for its time. It was one of the first animated shows with a Black creator and a Black cast, and it tackled complex themes like race and religion. Like "The Simpsons," it created a world filled with memorable side characters and one-off characters that made the world feel lived-in.

Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tom Arnold, Mark Pellegrino, Samm Levine, Shelley Regner, Kelly Arjen Charlene Amoia, Nolan River and Jaret Reddick are set to star in “Underdeveloped,” a limited series from Brian A. Metcalf, produced under his Black Jellybeans banner. The show focuses on a group of failed and inexperienced producers working together at a production company.

The series is written and executive produced by Metcalf, who will also serve as showrunner. Nicholas will also executive produce. The two have previously collaborated, producing the Lionsgate film “Adverse” last year. Nicholas is repped by Alex Czuleger at The Green Room and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. Rita Moreno is not only an Egot winner, but now the Hollywood legend is having a building with her name on it in Hollywood.

The “West Side Story” star was on hand on June 23 at the naming ceremony of the Hollywood Arts Collective’s Rita Moreno Arts Building in Los Angeles.

Disney Branded Television has promoted Meredith Roberts to Executive Vice President, TV Animation.

Roberts was previously the senior vice president/general manager for Television Animation, Disney Branded Television. Prior to that, she was the general manager of Disneytoon Studios which launched the Planes and Tinker Bell/Fairies franchise titles. From 2004 to 2007, Roberts served as the president of Creative Affairs, Walt Disney Television Animation.

A revival of the original animated series, which first aired on Disney Channel from 2001 to 2005, “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder” premiered in February, and follows the adventures of Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt), an ordinary 14-year old girl navigating school and her dysfunctional family. The news of the renewal comes ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale, which is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday.

“The Proud Family,” which originally ran on the Disney Channel from 2001 to 2005, was a quietly groundbreaking animated series, focused exclusively on a Black family growing up in modern America. In the years since, the show has amassed even more of a following and taken on even more cultural relevance. Now “The Proud Family” is back (on Disney+ this time) and at the perfect time, too.

This new “Proud Family” contains everything that you loved about the first iteration of the series but this time it is infused with more maturity. Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar, best known as two of the executive producer behind iconic animated sitcom “The Proud Family,” have signed a multi-year overall deal with Disney.

Under the wide-ranging pact, the pair will produce animated and live-action series and films for Disney’s Branded Television division, working closely with Disney Channels senior vice president and general manager of TV animation Meredith Roberts, and recently promoted Disney Branded TV executive vice president of creative development and strategy Ayo Davis.

As part of their agreement, separate funding will be provided to the duo in order to find and develop emerging talent, as well as bringing unique projects and voices to Disney.

“With virtually every studio and platform reaching out to them, it speaks volumes that talented storytellers Ralph and Bruce have chosen Disney as the home for their boundless creativity and inspired social commentary, not to mention their commitment to identifying emerging talent.

The Proud Family EPs Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar are expanding their relationship with Disney, signing a wide-ranging, multiyear overall deal to produce animated and live-action series and movies for Disney Branded Television. It is the first deal to be officially announced under the new division established as part of the recent restructuring, headed by Gary Marsh.

Under the deal, Smith and Farquhar will work closely with Meredith Roberts, senior vice president/general manager, Television Animation, Disney Channels, and Ayo Davis, executive vice president, Creative Development and Strategy, Disney Branded Television. Created by Smith and executive produced by Smith and Farquhar, The Proud Family aired on Disney Channel from 2001-2005 and was one of very few animated series at the time to center around an African American family.

Quality series come and go on Netflix, but there are currently some impressive selections on the streaming platform. In the way of sitcoms, subscribers have access to classic African-American series that have previously been quite difficult to find. There are long-running 1990s or 2000s shows as well as a Netflix Original and a recent NBC show.

It is vital that streaming services feature the talents of the incredible Black actors, writers, directors, and producers across the entertainment industry. It is equally important to note that the fantastic series music of five of these shows was done by Kurt Farquhar, whose brother, Ralph Farquhar, was a writer and executive producer for Moesha and The Parkers (the Moesha spin-off he co-created with Sara Finney-Johnson and Vida Spears).

Disney+ has given the formal greenlight to “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,” a revival of the animated Disney Channel series that ran for two seasons between 2001 and 2005.

The original voice cast has been confirmed to return, including Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer and Alisa Reyes as Lacienega Boulevardez. Cedric the Entertainer will also return as Uncle Bobby Proud.

The new episodes are currently in production, with series creator Bruce W. Smith and executive producer Ralph Farquhar, who led the original series, back at the helm. Calvin Brown, Jr. also returns as co-executive producer and story editor.

The network announced it had ordered the rom-com from Ralph Farquhar and Ty Hodges straight to series, on April 4, 2016. The network announced Monday that it has ordered 10 episodes of Famous — which follows a young couple whose relationship is tested when one of them skyrockets to stardom virtually overnight — from creators Ralph Farquhar (Real Husbands of Hollywood, Moesha) and Ty Hodges (A Girl Like Grace).

While the cast on the half-hour comedy will be announced at a later date, Fox has already set its debut for Sunday, June 12 at 9/8c.

The 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards went off without a hitch earlier this evening (February 22) with "12 Years a Slave" continuing to make waves snagging the biggest prize of the night.

Before her film won Outstanding Motion Picture, the gorgeous Lupita Nyong'o added another piece of hardware to her already impressive collection taking home a trophy for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, while Kerry Washington snagged up her second Image Award with a win for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series. Kerry's show "Scandal" also won Outstanding Drama Series.

In addition, the hilarious Kevin Hart took home Entertainer of the Year, while Oprah Winfrey paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela with a touching speech and musical dedication.

"He was everything we have all have heard and more. He was humble and he was unscathed by any kind of bitterness after all that we know he's been through," Winfrey said.

The 45th NAACP Image Awards were presented Saturday night (Feb. 22), with names like Kevin Hart, Kerry Washington, "12 Years a Slave" director Steve McQueen and Lupita Nyong'o being honored.
