- Balding, heavy-set character actor, who was a familiar presence in German films of the 1920's and 30's. Best remembered for his roles in Rua das Lágrimas (1925), Quax, der Bruchpilot (1941)) and Die Feuerzangenbowle (1944). He also had a distinguished career on stage in Berlin. His wife, who was half-Jewish, was murdered by the Nazis at the Ravensbrück concentration camp in March 1942.
