February will bring several new additions to Max's streaming library, including a Jason Statham-led action movie sequel. Perhaps frustratingly, its predecessor will not be joining it.
On Feb. 1, 2016's Mechanic: Resurrection will be hitting Max. Directed by Dennis Gansel, the film is a sequel to the 2011 movie The Mechanic, which was itself a remake of Charle Bronson's 1972 actioner of the same name. Mechanic: Resurrection was a box office success, earning over $125 million worldwide – a sizable improvement over the first movie's haul of $76 million. For some fans of Statham, however, the movies are still best enjoyed together, so Max subscribers looking to first watch 2011's The Mechanic won't be able to do so on the same streaming platform in February.

As the end of 2024 approaches, Netflix are making it a sad goodbye to the year for fans of two Jason Statham action movies, as The Mechanic and Redemptionwill be dropped from the streamer on December 31 as their syndicated content shifts around for the new year. In short, get your fix now before it is too late.
The Mechanic, a remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson movie under the direction of Simon West, is a classic example of the brand of action Statham kills every time. In his first outing as near-perfect assassin Arthur Bishop, the Brit has to avenge the death of his mentor, keep himself alive, and teach his mentor’s son a few life-lessons along the way. You know, they usual. The end of the year is not something to celebrate for Jason Statham fans, as Dec. 31 may be a rather unfortunate day for fans of the action movie actor who are subscribed to Netflix.
As per Netflix, Dec. 31 will mark the last day Statham's The Mechanic and Redemption are available to stream on the platform. Both movies are considered favorites for many fans of the actor. The Mechanic, released in 2011, served as a remake of the 1972 movie starring action genre legend Charles Bronson. Statham's version earned over $76 million at the box office upon release, and despite its initial mixed reviews, the movie has come to a place where it's fondly celebrated by fans as one of the action star's underrated films. It spawned a sequel in 2016's Mechanic: Resurrection, which was a box office hit with over $125 million earned, though

It might be time for action movie icon Sylvester Stallone to turn in his guns, as the latest effort from the Rambo and Expendables star has now joined a notorious club on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. This year’s Armor, which finds Stallone on the wrong side of the law as a thief attempting to rob the titular armored truck, has now landed a seriously “rotten” score of 0% after 19 reviews. While the score could go still go up, it's unlikely to get away from that green splat.
Dennis Harvey of Variety found, well, nothing to like about Armor, criticizing everything from the script by Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert to the disappointing action thrills.
“Neither its staging nor its performances transcend the limitations of Adrian Speckert and Cory Todd Hughes’ script, leaving mediocre material unredeemed by any special thrills, style, or character detailing.”
Glenn Kenny of RogerEbert.

James Brady wakes up and reaches for Tums and aspirin for his hangover before stumbling to the kitchen for some vodka, skillfully hidden in a carton of orange juice. Why? Because it seems to be a law that the leads of films like these have to have a troubled past and a drinking problem. His son Casey picks him up from his AA meeting in an armoured car, and they start another day of deliveries.
But as they go through their day, Rook and his crew, which includes Smoke, Echo and Viper are watching them. And with names like that, you know it can’t be a good thing.

Red One has already earned some redemption from its dire initial reviews from critics. Starring Dwayne Johnson (Callum Drift) and Chris Evans (Jack O'Malley), the movie is an action flick that follows the kidnapping of Santa Claus (J. K. Simmons). It had an enormous $250 million budget and was released in theaters on November 15 for domestic audiences. Amazon MGM has not yet confirmed when Red One will head to streaming platforms.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the holiday movie has proven to be extremely divisive. It debuted with a Rotten 32% Tomatometer score from critics. Top critics were even more negative, assigning just a 25% score. The audience, however, has been kinder. It currently sits at an 88% Popcornmeter score, which is enough to earn a Hot designation. Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans' Christmas action movie underwent a few changes regarding the options for where to watch Red One. The combination of the two major movie stars was enough to get Amazon MGM to back the original action title that reunited The Rock with his Jumanji franchise director, Jake Kasdan. With Dwayne Johnson's box office track record and Chris Evans' notoriety after playing Captain America, the movie became a promising opportunity for them to unite and deliver either a major box office or streaming hit - or possibly both - although that was before Red One's reviews.
Amazon MGM originally had planned for Red One to release in Christmas 2023, but the film ultimately was kept away from audiences until November 2024. The twist came with the studio deciding that the way audiences first get to see the movie will also be different once it arrives. This is because...

It might not be the holidays yet, but Amazon MGM want you to hang up your stockings early for Red One, the high-concept caper starring Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and Jk Simmons. Johnson plays the role he was born for: a hulking head of security to Simmons' Santa Claus, who is disillusioned with humanity's lack of goodness, and one day from retirement.
Like Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, which Johnson collaborated on with Red One director Jake Kasdan, the festive adventure aims for action comedy. When Santa is kidnapped, Johnson's inexplicably immortal Callum Drift teams up with Level 4 Naughty Lister Jack O'Malley (Evans), who is a master thief, hacker, and somehow has had the superpower of being able to find people or things since childhood. Don't worry, that's not really important enough to be explained beyond it helping the plot lurch forward.

Some films can survive the coronavirus better than others. Some — the quieter ones, the documentaries, the character studies — don’t need a big screen or a raucous film-festival audience or a packed house to make their pleasures known. Some can do quite well in front of a living-room audience of one or two.
“Arkansas” is not one of those films.
Of all the films that have been forced to go straight to streaming and VOD because of theater closings and film-festival cancellations due to Covid-19, Clark Duke’s offbeat black comedy might be the one that most misses its original release format. The film was to have premiered in the Austin Convention Center at the South by Southwest Film Festival — and if ever a film was made for a big, rowdy festival crowd with an appreciation for off-the-wall humor, it is this one.

As Kyle (Liam Hemsworth) shares during an early voiceover, organized crime in the backwoods of southern America isn’t very organized. This is good since few of the people in the wholesale drug dealing business of which he’s operated for just a little while are smart. He probably wouldn’t call himself very smart either since he’s content to follow his orders to the letter rather than harbor ambitions about becoming the boss. He’s perceptive in ways that ensure he maintains an upper hand in all situations, but never greedy enough to tip things so far off-balance that he has nowhere to go but down. Kyle sees the angles, parses secrets, and plans ahead in the hopes of staying alive long enough for none of it to matter.
So it’s no surprise he’d end up getting paired with his antithesis in Swin (Clark Duke). Kyle...

"I'm with Frog – I've been ordered to intervene." Lionsgate has debuted the official trailer for an ensemble crime drama titled simply Arkansas, based on the book of the same name. Kyle and Swin are drug couriers who live by the orders of an Arkansas-based drug kingpin named Frog, whom they've never met. But when a deal goes horribly wrong, the consequences are considerably deadly, as Frog mistakenly sees them as a threat to his empire. Arkansas "weaves together three decades of Deep South drug trafficking to explore the cycle of violence that turns young men into criminals, and old men into legends." Starring an ensemble cast including Vince Vaughn as Frog, Liam Hemsworth & Clark Duke as Kyle & Swin, John Malkovich, Vivica A. Fox, Eden Brolin, Michael Kenneth Williams, Brad William Henke, Patrick Muldoon, Jeff Chase, and Barry Primus. This looks mildly entertaining, Malkovich is the best part of the footage.

"In the end, defend." Orion Pictures has released the first trailer for a horror film titled The Domestics, which seems to borrow plenty from The Purge. A Madea Halloween. We're predicting that the action-packed sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back will come out on top with $20.2 million.
Box Office Mojo reports that Jack Reacher: Never Go Back will debut in approximately 3,500 theaters, the highest roll-out of any other new release, with Ouija: Origins of Evil arriving in 3,100 theaters, Keeping Up With the Joneses debuting in 3,000 theaters and Boo!

Suspecting something is off with her new neighbor, Karen Gaffney (Isla Fisher) decides to spy on Natalie Jones (Gal Gadot) in a new clip from Keeping Up with the Joneses, in theaters October 21. What Karen doesn't quite realize is that Karen is an actual, real-life spy. After following her to a Bloomingdale's fitting room, Natalie surprises her by coming out of the fitting room wearing some skimpy lingerie.
20th Century Fox debuted this first clip on YouTube earlier today, arriving more than three months after the first trailer debuted. This spy comedy certainly will have quite the challenge when it opens in mid-October, during one of the most crowded weekends of the year. Keeping Up With the Joneses will hit theaters on October 21, going up against Paramount's Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Universal's Ouija: Origins of Evil, Lionsgate's Boo! Jason Statham has signed on to return as Arthur Bishop in a sequel to his 2011 action-thriller The Mechanic, with German filmmaker Dennis Gansel coming on board to direct.
It isn't known if the project has a screenwriter attached yet, but Nu Image is currently shopping the sequel to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. The original movie, a remake of the 1972 film of the same name which starred Charles Bronson, follows Arthur Bishop, an assassin who lives by a strict code of conduct, and has a penchant for making his killings look like accidental deaths. It isn't clear yet if The Mechanic co-star Ben Foster or any other cast members will reprise their roles for the sequel.
Simon West directed The Mechanic, which took in nearly $30 million domestically and another $22 million in international markets. It is said that the genre nature of the sequel, and Jason Statham's...

Creature Feature Collection
Contains: Snow Beast, Monsterwolf, Swamp Shark | Released by Signature Entertainment
Signature Entertainment re-release three of their Tesco-exclusive creature features in a special three pack which is now available at all good retailers. So without further ado, here’s reviews of Snow Beast and Swamp Shark:
Snow Beast (2011)
Stars: John Schneider, Jason London, Danielle Chuchran, Paul D. Hunt, Kari Hawker | Written by Brittany Wiscombe | Directed by Brian Brough
Snow Beast, shot in 2011, and not to be confused with the 1977 TV movieSnowbeast which starred Bo Svenson and Yvette Mimieux, and is set in the same locale (a snowy hillside) and featuring almost exactly the same plot,...

This is the Pure Movies review for The Mechanic, directed by Simon West and starring Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Tony Goldwyn, Donald Sutherland, Jeff Chase, Mini Anden, James Logan and Eddie J. Fernandez. This may well be a remake of the classic 1972 Michael Winner film that had the rather grander Us title of Killer of Killers, and starred mean machine Charles Bronson, but when The Mechanic has Jason Statham in the lead, it’s another Transporter film, whichever way you (cynically) look at it. Good news for Statham fans, and fans of shoot/blow-em-up kung-fu-lery because it has all those exciting and well-staged elements done in an erratic and on-the-clock fashion, leaving out important plot-developments along the way, as though they’re irrelevant because the Statham stunt choreography and physique will distract any nitpickers.

Chicago – It wouldn’t be a Jason Statham film if in it he was just fixing cars. In “The Mechanic,” his profession is fixing people. And by fixing, like “The Transporter” he’s again cracking skulls.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
But if you’re going to ask audiences to buy into a remake of the 1972 film by the same name with Charles Bronson originating Jason Statham’s role as Arthur Bishop, a film needs to make it less obvious that it’s just modernizing a 1970s flick for the purposes of making new money on a preexisting script.
While “The Mechanic” takes a page from all other hitman movies and employs every trick in the contract killer book we’ve already seen, the one redeeming difference is Statham’s inner dialogue and his cool, calculated demeanor. Sure, this Jason Statham is again a killer with no back story, but this time he’s also a master of restraint,...

What's It About? In this remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson shoot-'em-up, Jason Statham is a veteran hitman who teaches the ropes to Foster, son of Statham's own late mentor (Sutherland). Soon, the older pro and the newbie realize they've been betrayed by The Company; now it's Payback Time.
Why Should You See It? After more then a decade of making hard-boiled action fare without smiling once, the taciturn Staham is about as close as we're going to get to an heir to Bronson. Early buzz suggests that the movie is light on plot,...

It was enough to get me even more excited to see this movie though. It looks like Statham at the top of his game.
