Character actor, often seen in authoritarian roles.

He made guest appearances on both of the longest running prime time dramas in US television history: Gunsmoke (1955) and Lei & Ordem (1990).

Made his professional debut in the Off-Broadway production "Sandhog" (1954) and first acted on Broadway the following year in "Seventh Heaven". Later moved to Los Angeles, worked in films and television and became a member of Theater West.

Older brother of actor Conlan Carter.

Best known for portraying Lt. John Biddle on Barnaby Jones.
