British Podcast Awards: the winners, 2024
Image
The 2024 British Podcast Awards took place at Here at Outernet in Central London. The star-studded event was hosted by comedian and podcaster Marcus Brigstocke, with category presenters including Rylan Clark & Scott Mills, Annie Mac, Olivia Atwood, Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel & Lewis Goodall, Joanne McNally, Jordan North & William Hanson and Hilary & Michael Whitehall.

In a poignant moment, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley accepted the 'Hall of Fame' award on behalf of her late husband, Dr Michael Mosley, for his hugely popular BBC podcast Just One Thing – which encourages listeners to improve their health and wellbeing with small changes.

This marked one of Clare's first public appearances since Michael's death in June, and her heartfelt speech deeply moved the audience, especially Michael's long-time BBC colleagues in attendance. Clare Mosley said: "Firstly, I wish more than anything that Michael was here himself to be collecting this award. Michael knew that Just One Thing had really connected with people,...

British Comedian Behind BBC Shows Criticized Over Alleged “Antisemitic” Death Threat To Female Comic
Image
British comedian Dane Baptiste, a regular on TV and creator of two BBC shows, has been criticized for allegedly posting an “antisemitic” death threat about a female comic.

Prominent members of the British comedy community rounded on Baptiste after he was accused of publishing a now-deleted Instagram post in which he told an unidentified female comedian he would “sit in prison while your family sit at the cemetery.” The full post is below.

The UK’s Community Security Trust, a charity that examines incidences of anti-Jewish hate, has been notified about Baptiste’s message, which began: “A quick note to the Zionist comedian stalking my family’s page.”

Deadline understands that the matter has been reported to the police.

Baptiste wrote: “I want you to sit down with your husband and kids and imagine what their lives will be without you, b/c north london is a quick trip to...

Chris Heath
Cat/Person is a brand-new audio sitcom written by Chris Heath
Chris Heath
Award-winning writer and producer Chris Heath has announced a brand-new audio sitcom Cat/Person; a series of overheard conversations between a broken man Matthew (Chris Heath) and Hobson (Sue Vincent), his sarcastic, selfish, sociopathic rescue cat. Cat/Person accurately and hilariously encapsulates the kind of relentless emotional hazing that cats love to lavish on their eager-to-please ‘owners’.

Matthew is doing his best to keep himself from falling into a black hole following an unhappy divorce. To get him through the dark days, his friends recommend that he gets himself an emotional support animal.

Unfortunately, after a trip to the local Animal Shelter, he chose Hobson, a rescue cat played by Sue Vincent. Matthew is sentimental, messy and lonely. Hobson is hungry and is insisting on a treat. Immediately.

In each episode, we’ll overhear a selection of conversations between human and cat, as Matthew tries his best to navigate his...

Actors, comedians and TV presenters condemn Labour party’s ‘horrendous’ anti-Rishi Sunak advert
Image
A number of actors, comedians and TV personalities have joined the voices condemning the Labour party’s controversial new campaign advert.

The ad bears a picture of prime minister Rishi Sunak, alongside the words: “Do you think adults convicted of sexually assaulting children should go to prison? Rishi Sunak doesn’t.”

To justify the claim, the advert cites the fact that “under the Tories”, 4,500 adults convicted of sexually assaulting children under the age of 16 had served no prison time.

The statistic is based on data going back to 2010, when Sunak was yet to even become an MP and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer was serving as Director of Public Prosecutions.

The advert was shared by Labour’s main account and retweeted by a number of several Labour figures, including Starmer’s Director of Strategy. It was met with outrage from many across the political spectrum.

Actor and director Samuel West wrote: “Please withdraw this.

The Wonderful Love Actually Red Nose Day Special Has Been Released Online
The Love Actually Red Nose Day Special already aired on Thursday, May 25 on NBC, but in case you missed it, the short is now available to watch online! The script for the short was written by Richard Curtis and it wonderfully revisits the characters of the classic 2003 film Love Actually. It shows us what our favorite characters are up to in 2017. It's a pretty great reunion special that I think fans of the original film will enjoy and appreciate.

Love Actually is one of my favorite romantic comedies and I thought this was a real treat. The cast that returns includes Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Keira Knightley, Andrew Lincoln, Colin Firth, Lucia Moniz, Liam Neeson, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Olivia Olson, Bill Nighy, Marcus Brigstocke and Rowan Atkinson. Patrick Dempsey also shows up. When talking about the special, Curtis had this to say:

Red Nose Day (2015)
First Love Actually 2 Photos Finally Answer One Big Question
Red Nose Day (2015)
Last month, Love Actually fans got a big surprise, when it was revealed that a Love Actually cast reunion is being planned for Red Nose Day. Filmmaker Richard Curtis is writing a new short film that shows what happened to these beloved characters, 14 years later. Over the past few days, Emma Freud, the wife of Richard Curtis who also served as the script editor on the original classic, has been posting numerous photos from the set, one of which solves perhaps one of the biggest mysteries from the original film, answering once and for all, who Keira Knightley's Juliet ended up with.

One of the interconnected love stories in the original romance followed Juliet (Keira Knightley), who gets married to Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) at the beginning of the film. The entire ceremony is filmed by Mark (Andrew Lincoln), the best man. Both Peter and Juliet think that Mark doesn't like Juliet,...

This week’s new film events
Slapstick | Horror-On-Sea

The mechanics and dynamics of silent comedy didn’t die with the advent of the talkies – just look at last year’s Shaun The Sheep Movie. A breadth of remit allows this silent and classic comedy film festival to stray beyond the confines of early cinema, although it always manages to find more of that out there. New (re)discoveries this year include Mancunian comedies (from the studio once known as “Jollywood”), silent westerns and a Soviet menage a trois. In addition you get sound-assisted slapstick such as Cary Grant’s breakthrough The Awful Truth (introduced by comedian Lucy Porter), and guests including Stephen Merchant, Ken Dodd, Tim Vine (on Sgt Bilko), and Marcus Brigstocke in conversation with the makers of Shaun The Sheep. And if all else fails, you can’t go wrong with an orchestrally accompanied screening of Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid.

Dara O Briain chats to us about tough gigs, writing books, touring, and comedy...

Dara O Briain's latest stand-up show, Crowd Tickler, makes it onto DVD this week, having already enjoyed a digital release. It's an excellent show, and a week or two back - just as the UK leg of his tour was drawing to a close - we got the chance to speak with the man himself about it. Here's how it went...

I caught a really good Ed Byrne gig the other week. And what impressed me about it most is that it's a long time since I've seen a comedian have to battle uphill for a good hour and a half against as dead a crowd as I've seen in a long time.

Really?

Yeah. A Tuesday night in a place you have to drive to. Not a very giving crowd.

The Jump: Channel 4 boss Jay Hunt keen to renew winter sports show
The Jump has been praised by Channel 4's chief creative officer Jay Hunt.

Kimberly Wyatt has been eliminated from The Jump.

The former Pussycat Doll exited the show after losing out to Steve Redgrave in the live jump.

Wyatt jumped from the K24, the medium slope, but her distance of 14.5m was deemed a foul after she fell shortly after landing.

Her disqualification left ex-Olympian Redgrave, who jumped last and did not compete in the evening's main event due to a hand injury, with the task of only having to land a qualifying jump to progress.

His solid landing after travelling 9m was enough to take him through to the semi-final, joining Anthea Turner (13m) and Ritchie Neville (11.5m).

Six celebrities took part in the speed skating event in tonight's (January 31) programme.

Comedian Marcus Brigstocke triumphed in the head-to-head races, with Joe McElderry finishing in second place.
