Has published a book called Behind the Mask of the Horror Actor.

He is one of only six actors to play the same horror character at least six consecutive times, the others being Christopher Lee, Robert Englund, Warwick Davis, Brad Dourif, and Tobin Bell.

Narrates several songs by the band Cradle of Filth, on albums Midian and Nymphetamine.

The descendant of First World War veterans he was deeply affected by the scenes of the soldiers fighting in the trenches whilst filming Hellraiser 3. He would later comment that when witnessing the extras dressed as British and German soldiers huddling around fires to keep warm in the early dawn light it ceased to be a film for him, it simply seemed real.

During a post-production party of Hellraiser (1987) he was totally ignored by other cast and crew members and he was hurt and confused because he thought he got along well with everyone. It turned out that no one had ever seen him without the full make-up on so no one knew who he was.
