Jake Gyllenhaal’s 60% Rotten Tomatoes War Movie Has a New Streaming Home
Image
Get ready to head back to the Persian Gulf War, as one of the most underrated war films of the 21st century has found a new streaming home: Universal Pictures' Jarhead, the 2005 film starring Jake Gyllenhaalthat chronicled the life of an unwitting Marine Corps recruit, begins streaming on Paramount+ today. The new streaming home will likely come as welcome news for fans of the film, which was directed by British heavyweight filmmaker Sam Mendes.

For those unfamiliar with the newly streaming film, Jarhead is based on the book of the same name by Anthony Swofford. It follows Swofford (Gyllenhaal) as he becomes a Marine recruit en route to the notoriously difficult Camp Pendleton. After a longwinded and contentious training period with his drill instructor (Scott MacDonald), Swofford graduates as a Marine sniper and gets deployed during the deadly Operation Desert Storm.

Jarhead, which also stars Jamie Foxx,Peter Sarsgaard, and Lucas Black,...

Jake Gyllenhaal's 20-Year-Old War Movie From James Bond Director Gets a New Streaming Home
Image
Before The Hurt Locker made stars out of its leading men, Anthony Mackie and Jeremy Renner, Jarhead saw two Hollywood bona fides in Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx in a riveting war drama of their own. Soon, folks can give the under-celebrated movie a watch when it's streaming on Paramount+.

Released in 2005, Jarhead not only paired the two in-demand actors fresh off Jamie Foxx's Oscar-winning performance in Ray and Jake Gyllenhaal's blockbuster turn in The Day After Tomorrow, but put them under the direction of Sam Mendes. Mendes, who would go on to direct the seminal James Bond film seven years later in Skyfall, exercises his chops in Jarhead, delivering a gritty deviation from his greatest preceding, Oscar-winning success, American Beauty. The collective results are an atmospheric, harrowing look into the psyche of Gulf War-Era soldiers, absolutely worth shooting up to the top of everyone's What to Stream in July charts and watch-lists.

Fast and Furious 11: After Vin Diesel’s Paul Walker Update, the Final Movie Needs Its Forgotten Street Racer
Image
Fast and Furious 11 is on its way to production, and lead star Vin Diesel has some things to say. Despite the untimely death of Diesel’s co-star Paul Walker back in 2013, the final scenes of Furious 7 were shot with Paul Walker’s brothers and CGI to finish the movie.

However, Diesel has recently teased that Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner and Dom Toretto will reunite in Fast and Furious 11 through a similar usage of CGI, to give a final conclusion to the story of Brian O’Conner and Dom Toretto.

Fast and Furious 11 will be an unsaid goodbye to Brian O’Conner

At Fuel Fest, a car enthusiast event in Pomona, Vin Diesel was joined by his co-stars Tyrese Gibson and Cody Walker for a brief appearance where they talked about their upcoming film.

Jason Schwartzman Dropped Out of Richard Kelly’s Film, But Jake Gyllenhaal Turned It Into a Cult Classic
Image
Jason Schwartzman was supposed to lead the star-studded cast of Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko. He expressed interest in the script and agreed to play Donnie, but he eventually had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. It was at this point that Gyllenhaal got his hands on the script and was mesmerised by it. He once said that he pulled over to the side of the road to finish reading it.

Donnie Darko is one of those rare sci-fi psychological thrillers that leave the viewers with more questions than answers. However, the film received poor reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, following which Kelly found it hard to find U.S. distributors for the film. While its initial theatrical gross was a measly sum, the film went on to attain more money on reissues and a cult status.

Jake Gyllenhaal saved Donnie Darko after Jason Schwartzman had to drop out of it Jake Gyllenhaal,...

Paul Bettany's Religious Horror Movie Is Making A Mark On Tubi's Charts
Image

15 years after it became a modest hit in theaters, "Legion" is finding new life on streaming. Not to be confused with the FX TV series of the same name, based in the world of Marvel Comics, we're talking about the movie starring Paul Bettany, known best for his work as Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But before he became the Vision, he was an actor with an interesting resume, including big hits like "A Beautiful Mind" and "The Da Vinci Code." Yet, for whatever reason, this movie is gaining traction right now.

As of this writing, director Scott Stewart's 2010 religious action/horror flick "Legion" is sitting at number seven on Tubi's most-watched movie charts, per FlixPatrol. It's just ahead of Mark Wahlberg's action flick "Mile 22" and just below the Tubi Original "Rhythm and Blood." Tyler Perry...

Ranking All 10 Fast and Furious Movies, Worst to Best
Image
If there’s one thing the Fast and Furious franchise has mastered, it’s reinvention. What started in 2001 as a movie about street racing and DVD player heists somehow morphed into a billion-dollar saga where cars fly, submarines chase Lamborghinis, and Vin Diesel defeats helicopters with a pair of Dodge Chargers. Over 10 movies (and counting), we’ve seen everything from rooftop chases in Rio to family barbecues that feel just as intense as the action scenes.

And through it all, Dom Toretto has reminded us, repeatedly, in case we forgot, that nothing is more important than family.

Of course, not every Fast & Furious movie is a nitrous-fueled masterpiece. Some entries turned the franchise into cinematic gold, while others, well, let’s just say they were running on fumes. The early movies were all about the underground racing scene, but as the franchise grew, so did its ambitions. By Fast Five,...

“This job is not easy for me”: Fast & Furious Star Who Left NCIS After 142 Episodes Because the Merciless Schedule Broke Him
Image
NCIS is one of the most iconic shows of all time. Despite having released twenty-two seasons, the series is still going strong. While willing actors and engaging stories are partly to credit for its lengthy run, the biggest reason why the show has been able to still air is because of its loyal fanbase. Sticking by it since 2003, their commitment and love for it help in it releasing more seasons every year.

However, it has become a persistent pattern where fan-favorite characters eventually leave the series. This has become so common that none of the original cast members are left. The perfect example of the same has to be The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift star and special agent Christopher Lasalle actor, Lucas Black.

It would seem that his reason for leaving the series showcases a bigger pattern that even made Mark Harmon almost walk out.

Why CBS Canceled NCIS: New Orleans
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The "NCIS" franchise is amongst the most successful in the history of television. The flagship show is still going today after 22 seasons and is rapidly approaching 500 episodes. Created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, it's rivaled only by the monster that is "Law & Order" as far as long-running prime time shows go. More than the show itself, "NCIS" is the gift that keeps on giving as it has spawned several very successful spin-offs, most notably "NCIS: New Orleans." That series, which premiered in 2014, had a stellar run that anyone who creates a show could only dream of. Still, even very good things must come to an end. But why did this beloved show have to end?

"NCIS: New Orleans" ended its seven-season run in May 2021 after CBS decided to cancel the crime drama set in the Big Easy. The...

Where Is Sling Blade Streaming? How To Watch The Movie
Image
Nearly 30 years after the release of Sling Blade, many people are still looking to stream the cult classic at home. Released in 1996 as a feature-length adaptation of an earlier short film also directed by and starring Billy Bob Thornton, Sling Blade follows a man who is intellectually disabled named Karl (Thornton) who forms a strong bond with a young boy following his release from prison. Challenging for its approach to a variety of topics from domestic abuse to the LGBTQ+ community, Sling Blade helped catapult Thornton to stardom practically overnight.

The movie was met with high praise as the riveting storytelling was enough to mesmerize the viewer until the inevitable conclusion (via Rotten Tomatoes). Besides Thornton, who earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor and won Best Adapted Screenplay, the performances of co-stars John Ritter and Lucas Black were lauded. Additionally, musician and actor Dwight Yoakam stole the show as...

Friday Night Lights reboot series being developed by Peacock
Image
Friday Night Lights is getting the reboot treatment, and Deadline reports that Peacock has scooped up the project after a competitive bidding war with Netflix.

This new iteration will “be set following a devastating hurricane, when a rag tag high school football team and their damaged, interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship and become a beacon of light for their town.“

The franchise is based on the non-fiction novel Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team and a Dream by H.G. Bissinger. Peter Berg directed a feature film based on the novel in 2004, which starred Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, Derek Luke, Garrett Hedlund, Jay Hernandez, and more. Two years later, Berg developed the acclaimed TV series of the same name. Revolving around a high school football team in the fictional town of Dillion, the series was led by Kyle Chandler as Coach...

Where there's a will, there's a way — and the only way that the football players of Friday Night Lights know is forward. In a new, exclusive report from Deadline full of football-related puns, it was revealed that the deal came together over the past few days after heated bids from both Peacock and Netflix. The series will again be showrun by Jason Katims, and directed by original director Peter Berg. Producer Brian Grazer will also return to the fold, with the three men executive producing the show alongside Kristen Zolner for Imagine Entertainment.

'The Fate of the Furious' Submarine Stunt Origins Explained by Screenwriter
Image
The Fast & Furious franchise has come a long way since its days as a simple street racing movie series about cars, vendettas, cars, family, and, yes, even more cars. However, by the time The Fate of the Furious rolled out in 2017, there had been some big changes to the type of story being told by Vin Diesel and his ever-growing crew, with the focus changing to almost James Bond-level antics for the tough guys and girls of the saga. This led to one of the franchise’s most audacious sequences – at least until they went into space, but that is one for another day – involving a submarine chase across a frozen tundra. This is something that screenwriter Chris Morgan has recently explained the story behind.

The Fast & Furious movies have always needed a little bit of suspended disbelief when it comes to some of the stunts and more spectacular moments of the franchise.

Fast & Furious Franchise’s Endgame Gets Update From Vin Diesel As He Teases Return Of Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs: “A Reunion Of That Beautiful Brotherhood”
Image
Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel shares an update on the franchise's plan for an endgame, including how many more movies there will be and Dwayne Johnson's return as Luke Hobbs. After the first installment back in 2001, Diesel returned as Dom Toretto last year for Fast X, the tenth installment in the Fast Saga. Fast X: Part 2 is now confirmed to be on the way (and is seemingly in production) and a Hobbs spinoff movie was announced last year, but it remains unclear just how many more movies there will actually be in the franchise.

Diesel now takes to Instagram to share a new update on the plans for the end of the Fast & Furious franchise, revealing, essentially, that it may not yet be set in stone. According to the star and producer, there's continued interest from Comcast in there being a Fast & Furious 12, in addition to...

It's time to return to the world of Texas football and high drama as another beloved series is getting the reboot treatment. Friday Night Lights continues to be a fan favorite, and because of its continued endurance and popularity, it appears that a reboot is in the works based on the classic series, which was itself inspired by a feature film.

Per Deadline, a new take on Friday Night Lights is currently in the works at Universal Television from the creative team behind the original show, including showrunner Jason Katims, Peter Berg (who directed the feature film version and developed the show), and producer Brian Grazer. Everything We Know About NCIS: Origins (So Far)
Image
Network television is entering a very interesting era. Audiences are starting to get fatigued with the huge array of streaming services on offer. What's more, they are looking for long-form storytelling that matches the traditional formula they are used to from TV programming. While the likes of Disney+ and Netflix are still popular, those limited, single-season runs, with 6 to 8 shorter episodes, are growing tiresome. Fans are hoping to see something more procedural, or at least for more variety to be on offer. They are thus turning back to cable and network TV in the hope of getting back to the old ways of production. That provides these studios with an incredible opportunity, and audiences should not be surprised to see more reboots, spinoffs, and original ideas in the works as these companies fight for this ever-growing section of the audience.

For CBS, NCIS has always been a particularly prominent franchise to rely upon.

‘NCIS: New Orleans’: Relive the 10 Most Shocking Moments

A decade ago, the NCIS franchise got its third TV series with NCIS: New Orleans, starring Scott Bakula as Special Agent Dwayne Pride. More than 17 million people watched the CBS procedural’s series premiere on September 23, 2014, as Pride and his team investigated the murder of one of his former mentees. Why Did Lucas Black Leave NCIS: New Orleans?
Image
The NCIS franchise is one of CBS's most successful properties. The flagship series has been running for 20 seasons, with the spinoff NCIS: Hawai'i renewed for a third season and the most recent spinoff, NCIS: Sydney, having premiered in November 2023. Then there's NCIS: New Orleans, which ended in 2021 much to the dismay of fans, who still talk about the spinoff, featuring Lucas Black as Christopher Lasalle.

The NCIS franchise has had its fair share of deaths in each show, including the original and spinoffs. Life or death situations are par for the course of being an agent for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, adding a sense of tense realism to each show. But that doesn't absolve any character death from being controversial among viewers. Lasalle was a fan-favorite among NCIS: New Orleans viewers and lasted almost the entire run. However, audiences were shocked when the character left the program in...

10 Great 'Rotten' Action Movies Rotten Tomatoes Is Wrong About
Image
The action genre has, over time, made a name for itself as one of the most varied genres in terms of quality. When an action film lands, it really lands, captivating audiences and cementing itself as a true cultural touchstone, sometimes spawning franchises and sequels galore. In the worst cases, action films reveal themselves to be soulless ventures engineered by studios to meet audience expectations and visual highs with no dedication to narrative or character. Other times, one of these types of films is labeled as another when, in reality, it deserves its flowers and then some.

Rotten Tomatoes has quickly become a huge part of the cultural zeitgeist, becoming a part of many casual audience members' routines as they set out to choose what movie to watch at any given moment. It is safe to say that, although some people choose to ignore these ratings, many are largely affected...

Why Zoe McLellan's Meredith Brody Left NCIS: New Orleans
Image
NCIS: New Orleans ran for seven seasons on CBS and lost a couple of original cast members along the way, including Zoe McLellan as Special Agent Meredith "Merri" Brody. The action crime drama was the second spinoff in the NCIS franchise and the third show overall. As its title indicates, NCIS: New Orleans follows a Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) team in New Orleans, Louisiana, led by Scott Bakula's Supervisory Special Agent Dwayne Cassius Pride. McLellan's Brody was a part of that team, but she left following the season 2 finale.

CBS canceled NCIS: New Orleans after seven seasons due to poor ratings and changes in the TV business. The NCIS franchise's third spinoff, NCIS: Hawaii, premiered a few months after the NCIS: New Orleans series finale in 2021.

McLellan was a part of the original cast of NCIS: New Orleans, which is what made her exit surprising. Bakula, McLellan, Lucas Black,...

The late Cormac McCarthy wrote twelve acclaimed and legendary novels, but surprisingly, only five of them have ever managed to make their way into film adaptations. Out of those select five, however, by far the most memorable and well-regarded of them has undoubtedly been the Coen Brothers' 2006 adaptation of No Country For Old Men. When the film was released, it was a massive success, not just critically but commercially as well. Winning four of its eight Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture), it has since been regarded as one of the greatest films in the Coen's collective filmography. Of course, some probably remember some of the other attempts that have been made at adapting...

This $203 Million Video Game Movie Failure Makes Fast & Furious 20-Year Success Even More Impressive
Image
The success of the Fast & Furious franchise is even more impressive when compared to the similarly-premised would-be franchise, Need for Speed. Need for Speed failed to captivate audiences, lacked inspiring characters and storylines, and flopped at domestic box offices. Need for Speed's lackluster reception hindered the potential for it to evolve into a successful movie series like Fast & Furious.

The disappointing run of a 2014 video game movie makes the Fast & Furious franchise's lucrative and perpetual success at the box office all the more impressive. NCIS: New Orleans - Why Lucas Black's Agent Lasalle Left The Show
Image
Chris Lasalle's sudden death in NCIS: New Orleans season 6 shocked fans, but the show continued without him, leading to a stronger, more unified team. Lucas Black left the show due to long production hours affecting his family life, focusing on faith-based movies and a YouTube channel afterward. Unsung Hero, a faith based family drama directed by Joel Smallbone and Richard L. Ramsey, delves into the real-life story of the Smallbone family. This includes members of the popular Christian rock group for King and Country Joel and Luke as they navigate the challenges of emigrating from Australia to the United States. The film centres around Helen Smallbone (played by Aussie actor Daisy Betts), whose strength and unwavering support for her family proved to be vital for their continued success.

The narrative focuses on the family’s struggle to establish a new life in Nashville amidst financial difficulties and cultural adjustments. Joel Smallbone portrays his father, David Smallbone, a once successful tour manager struggling to keep his business afloat. The musician-turned-filmmaker captures the character’s journey from despair and pride to humility and hope with authenticity and conviction.

Image
NCIS stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are reuniting as Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David for their very own spinoff series. The show, dubbed NCIS: Tony & Ziva, will stream on Paramount+.

Per Deadline, the two actors spoke about the spinoff while at the Monte Carlo TV Festival. While full plot details haven't been revealed, what's known about NCIS: Tony & Ziva is that it will follow the two characters who go on the run in Europe along with their daughter, Tali, as they work to discover who's pursuing them. Weatherly teased that Tali is just as important to the series as her parents, going so far as to suggest that the series should have incorporated her name into the title by being called Tony, Ziva & Tali.

Jake Gyllenhaal's Best Role Was Given To Jason Schwartzman First
Image
When it was released in January of 2001, Richard Kelly's bleak time-travel psychological drama "Donnie Darko" caused a notable stir. The title character, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is a teen struggling with schizophrenia in 1988, a time when Reagan's great Conservative revolution was drawing to a close and adults clung to suburban conformity as it crumbled under them. Donnie is obsessed with time-travel and regularly hallucinates a vicious, strange anthropomorphic rabbit monster named Frank (all while attempting to socialize at school and foster a romance with a classmate played by Jena Malone). Patrick Swayze appears as a cheesy self-self guru, Drew Barrymore plays one of Donnie's teachers, and Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Donnie's sister.

By turns psychedelic and weirdly moving (in a Goth sort of way), "Donnie Darko" quickly became a cult hit and rotated directly into the local midnight movie circuit, attracting a wide swath of misfits and night people.

10 Harsh Realities Of Rewatching Tokyo Drift 18 Years After Fast & Furious First Spinoff Movie
Image
Lucas Black was 24 at the time, making Sean Boswell's high school student persona hard to believe. Sean made plenty of questionable decisions throughout Tokyo Drift, showcasing his reckless behavior. The product placement in Tokyo Drift was excessive, with various brands appearing throughout the film.

Looking back 18 years after The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was released, audiences still talk about and enjoy the action-packed film, although upon rewatching, some harsh realities must be faced. As the first spin-off and standalone sequel in the Fast & Furious franchise, there was a lot to love about Tokyo Drift, but there were just as many issues. As the story of high school troublemaker and car fanatic Sean Boswell (Lucas Black), who was sent to Tokyo to avoid jail time for car racing, Tokyo Drift had plenty of absurdities that revealed themselves upon a rewatch.

Unsung Hero Review: Uplifting True Story Behind For King & Country

Joel Smallbone plays his real-life dad, David, in Unsung Hero, wearing his dad's jacket from 30 years ago. Smallbone's remarkable performance will floor you, along with the convincing supporting cast. A family of Aussies with Grammy winners. Unsung Hero balances faith and grounded drama, exploring the Smallbone family's struggles before achieving stardom. A heartwarming family flick.

In Unsung Hero, Joel Smallbone plays his own, real-life dad as he parents the child that would become, well, Joel. He even wears his dad's authentic jacket during the film from 30 years ago. Take that, Hollywood multiverses! Smallbone's remarkable turn as his dad, David, will simply floor you. The rest of the cast is pretty darn convincing, too.

For King & Country's Joel Smallbone on Playing His Real Dad in Unsung Hero
Image
If the fans of Grammy-winners Rebecca St. James and for King & Country ever find themselves wondering where it all started for these beloved musical artists, Lionsgate has a new feature film hitting the masses April 26 that breaks it all down. Unsung Hero follows the Smallbone family from their humble beginnings in Australia to certain siblings' rise to stardom in the U.S. The family patriarch, David, certainly had his work cut out for him, with no money or job to his name as he journeys with his pregnant wife Helen (Daisy Betts) and their seven kids across the globe.

And who better to play David than his own son, Joel Smallbone, aka one-half of the Christian pop duo for King & Country who also happens to be co-writer/director of Unsung Hero. It seems, then, that Smallbone also had his work cut out for him, bringing this personal story to life on the big screen.

John Cena Comments on Rivalry Between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel: "You get two, there can only be one."
Image
John Cena understands the rivalry between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, commenting on their alpha status and the conflicts it can bring. Cena's wrestling experience taught him to adapt to volatile environments, advising others to "know the room" in tough situations. Cena remains humble about his role in the Fast & Furious franchise, expressing gratitude and respect for the series' legacy.

Though he only joined the Fast & Furious franchise in 2021, portraying Jakob Toretto in Fast 9, John Cena certainly has some thoughts on the rivalry between his two co-stars, Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel. Cena recently reprised his role as Dominic Toretto's younger brother in Fast X, where his character met a harrowing end, seemingly signifying Cena's departure from the long-running action juggernaut. Though the feud between Johnson and Diesel started long before Cena's arrival, the WWE megastar isn't surprised in the least that it even happened in the first place.

However, he had the backing of Universal Studios to avoid facing serious consequences for his lawbreaking.

The X-Files: Fight the Future (1998) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
The X-Files: Fight the Future (watch it Here). Mulder and Scully on the big screen. That’s it. Need I say more? After 119 episodes, a movie was inevitable. While Chris Carter was happy with the success that the show had generated, he wanted to make more x-philes. Carter saw the movie as an opportunity to reach an even wider audience and make any skeptics true believers, but also reward current fans. Crafting a feature film also meant the ability to be able to dive deeper into the alien mythology that the series had been slowly weaving.

Making the leap from the small screen to the big screen was quite the undertaking. Carter explained that since they had been writing mini-movies, creating a full-length feature film felt like the next logical progression. Juggling the production of 24 episodes for The X-Files and another 24 for the spin-off Millennium was no easy feat. So,...

Legion 2010 Ending Explained
Image
Disobeying authority, even at great personal cost, is worth it when one knows that the orders are morally wrong. Michael's resurrection in Legion was a reward for his defiance of God's plan to destroy humanity, showing that compassion and a sense of right and wrong are important qualities for archangels. Jeep's optimism and hope for a positive outcome influenced Michael, demonstrating that the faith and belief of one person can have a significant impact on humanity's future.

The ending of 2010's Legion demonstrates through the archangel Michael that it's worth disobeying authority even when it costs everything when one knows that the orders are morally wrong. Legion is director Scott Stewart's first feature-length film with a cast that features Paul Bettany, Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Lucas Black, Adrianne Palicki, and Kevin Durand, among others. Legion 2 Never Happened, But Paul Bettany's 2010 Movie Still Got A Sequel
Image
Despite a strong storyline and talented cast, "Legion 2" never happened. However, a follow-up series called "Dominion" was created, which expanded the movie's worldbuilding. "Dominion," set 25 years after "Legion," received better critical ratings but was canceled after two seasons. The exact reason for its cancelation was not disclosed, but low viewership and a decline in viewership throughout the 13-episode season may have played a role. Anthony Head, who starred in "Dominion," suggested that changing the show's airing schedule and a lack of active promotion by Syfy could have affected its viewership and contributed to its cancelation.

The 2010 movie, Legion, was a hit when it first came out in theaters but never received a sequel, leaving audiences curious about what might have happened next in its overarching storyline. Directed by Scott Stewart of the Priest and Dark Skies fame, Legion opens with an intriguing hook where a group of diners finds themselves facing evil supernatural forces.
