During the early days of WCW Monday Nitro (1995), he wanted the show to air at 7:57 PM, so he could give away the taped results of the WWF's WWE Raw (1993) three minutes before Raw even went on the air.

The idea of WCW Nitro came from a meeting with Ted Turner. Turner had asked him how they, the WCW, can compete with the WWF's Monday Night Raw.
