Considered for Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars: Episódio IV - Uma Nova Esperança (1977).

Registered in a civil partnership with James Belchamber in 2006, aged 90. They had been together for nearly 60 years.

Was asked to play a major guest role in Season 14 of Doctor Who (1963), but rejected the role because it would have required him to wear a mask and he hated wearing masks.

After leaving school he started as an office worker but found it uninteresting. He obtained a scholarship to RADA then spent time at Chesterfield Rep and the Malvern Festival.

He was considered for the role of Lord President Borusa (played by Leonard Sachs) in Arc of Infinity: Part One (1983).
