Is the ex-father-in-law of writer/director Del Shores, with whom Alexander still frequently works (Uma Família E Tanto (2000), Southern Baptist Sissies (2009)). Shores was married to his daughter Kelley Alexander and they have two daughters together, Rebecca & Caroline -- Alexander's grandchildren. Shores came out as a gay man in 1995, is now married to actor Jason Dottley, and the entire family remains close.

His voice over group The L.A.MadDogs did the critics voice overs for Neil Young's anti-war tour movie CSNY-Deja Vu. He also does voices for model trains for Neil's company Lionel Toys.
