Imagine a life rebuilt from ashes, quiet and orderly, only to have the specter of your past appear on your doorstep. This is where we meet Rena in The Thirteenth Wife: Escaping Polygamy. She tends to her garden, a picture of tranquil domesticity, before a news report about a violent shootout with a Mexican cult shatters her peace.
The real catalyst arrives in the form of Josie, a reporter who knows exactly who Rena used to be. This encounter forces Rena to unlock a lifetime of trauma and recount her story as the thirteenth wife of Ervil LeBaron, a charismatic and monstrous self-proclaimed prophet.
The film immediately positions itself as a harrowing biographical thriller, not just about escaping a physical place, but about the impossibility of escaping memory itself. It explores the deep scars of psychological captivity and the sheer will required to survive when your entire world was designed to control you.

Comic book adaptations have been around since the early 1940s, existing as serials for DC and Marvel's most popular characters, like Batman, Captain Marvel, Captain America and Superman - and 2025 marks some key announcements for several classic releases. Since the inception of comic book films, the genre's landscape has shifted drastically with landmark films like Batman (1989), Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, The Dark Knight, and the films in the MCU timeline.
Things will continue to shift even more with James Gunn's Dcu and Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Still, it's nice to look back on what came before in terms of comic book movie adaptations, and in 2025 there are some that will have significant birthdays. Here are the biggest comic book anniversaries that will happen in 2025.

A long-lost Marvel movie has finally been found. While the MCU has now brought the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America to a much wider audience, these were far from the first efforts to bring these beloved characters to the screen in live-action. After several made-for-tv movies, director Albert Pyun was given the reins to Captain America in 1990 but, sadly, the movie was mauled by those who saw it, and currently stands at just 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the Marvel outing has since garnered something of a cult following, and now, various reports on social media have revealed that a myth surrounding the movie is indeed true: a director’s cut exists, and it has been found.

Exclusive: Lifetime has given a green light to How To Murder Your Husband, one of the network’s new Ripped from the Headlines movies announced today, starring Cybill Shepherd (The Client List) and Steve Guttenberg. It’s slated for premiere on Saturday, January 14 at 8 pm/7c.
The project marks Shepherd’s return to Lifetime following her previous starring role in The Client List and a guest-starring role on Drop Dead Diva.
Based on a true story, the movie revolves around Nancy Crampton-Brophy, played by Shepherd, who seemed to have a knack for writing about murder. The Portland-based romance-thriller novelist authored books about relationships that were tumultuous, while using seductive men on the covers to lure in her readers. Often, her books featured women protagonists who fantasized about killing their own husbands or fleeing their husbands and faking their own deaths. And then, in 2022 in a shocking turn of events,...

Director and documentarian Mark Hartley scores both a film history and comedy success with this ‘wild, untold’ account of the 1980s film studio that was both revered and despised by everyone who had contact with it. The ‘cast list’ of interviewees is encyclopedic, everybody has a strong opinion, and some of them don’t need four-letter words to describe their experience!

ABC has given a straight-to-series order to the drama “Somewhere Between.” The murder drama from writer and executive producer Stephen Tolkin (“Perception,” “Brothers & Sisters,” “Summerland”) has been picked up for 10 episodes. Based on a Korean format, the series follows Laura Price, who is certain that her daughter Serena is going to be murdered. She doesn’t know who the murderer is or why she’s killed, but she knows exactly when it will happen, where and how. Despite this, all of her attempts to keep her daughter safe fail, and Serena’s fixed, unmovable, terrifying fate keeps her directly in the path.

Shout! Factory has released a Blu-ray edition of the 1990 Captain America movie, a year after a DVD of the much-maligned film was released as a part of MGM’s Limited Edition collection. They deserve kudos for a nice, clean transfer but clarity and high definition cannot help a really weak story hampered by a low budget production.
As I wrote last year:
The film had actually been announced in the early 1980s from Cannon Films but in the intervening years, the studio folded and the right shifted a bit before Menahem Golan mounted it under his 21stCentury banner.
The movie languished in development until the rights were about to expire so director Albert Pyun urged Golan to let him take a crack at getting the film made for about $6 million. Marvel actually approved the script that was shot and Pyun loved its take on America’s fascination with heroism. If...

Hollywood shouldn't mess with Harlan Ellison. The legendary writer and curmudgeon has moved to block New Regency's upcoming sci-fi thriller "In Time," claiming that it rips off his short story "Repent, Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman." The thing is, he appears to be right. While there are other sci-fi stories that float around the same concept -- Lee Falk's "Time is Money," David and Janet Peoples' "Timebomb," and Stephen Tolkin's "The Price of Life" -- and all were undoubtedly lifted from, the strong similarities between "In Time" and "Repent, Harlequin" really can't be denied. The entire character and plotline of the Master Timekeeper appears to have been directly lifted from "Repent." At least one reviewer, Richard Roeper, even cited the short story as the movie's source. Furthermore, Ellison hired a screenwriter to adapt the short story and was preparing to approach studios with it. It's not known from...

The spectrum of sci-fi and fantasy works adapted for TV grows ever-larger by the day, and now Starz has decided to throw their hat into the ring.
Today that world grows a little larger, as Deadline reports that Starz CEO Chris Albrecht has secured the rights to adapt Dean Koontz' 1985 supernatural thriller Twilight Eyes for at least a six to eight-hour miniseries.
Twilight Eyes focuses on mysterious character and self-named "Slim MacKenzie," who ues his psychic powers (the so-called twilight eyes) to hunt Goblins, beings that have the capacity to mimic human form and only experience the spectrum of negative emotions. Along with girlfriend Rya Raines and friend Joel Tuck, the three operate out of a carnival and fight monsters in Yontsdown, Pensylvania.
Koontz' work hadn't been adapted for TV since 1998's Mr. Murder, though the author had previously tried to bring Twilight Eyes to the screen earlier that decade.

Horror and sci-fi author Dean Koontz is becoming a hot property in Hollywood it seems. With a film adaptation of "Odd Thomas" in production, now comes word of another Koontz property getting adapted - for cable television.
The Starz network ("Spartacus," "Camelot") is set to produce an original limited series adaptation of Koontz' 1985 novel "Twilight Eyes" reports Deadline.
The story follows a man named Slim MacKenzie, who uses his psychic powers to hunt Goblins - monsters that have the ability to mimic human beings.
Scribe Stephen Tolkin, who adapted the Koontz novels "Intensity" and "Mr. Murder" into late 90's telemovies, has teamed with Koontz' former agent Rob Lee on the project.
The aim is to do a small series run, around 6-8 episodes, and by doing it on premium cable it allows them to keep the book's strong violence and sensuality intact. One change however is that the 1970's setting...

Deadline is reporting that Starz may be ready to roll out its first original limited series, an adaptation of Dean Koontz' 1985 novel "Twilight Eyes." The project, which centers on Slim MacKenzie, who uses his psychic powers, aka Twilight Eyes, to hunt Goblins -- monsters that have the ability to mimic human beings -- is in high-priority development. Koontz's former agent Rob Lee, now head of his own production company Bayonne Entertainment, is co-adapting with writer Stephen Tolkin, who had adapted two Koontz novels as TV movies, 1997's "Intensity" and 1998's "Mr. Murder." While the events in the book take place even before the 1980s, the adaptation will be set in present day. On the feature side, an adaptation of Koontz's Old Thomas written and to be directed by Stephen Sommers, is in pre-production with Tim Robbins, William Dafoe and Anton Yelchin starring.
