She is the first unsigned artist to have a number one single in the US. Her song "Stay" from the soundtrack of Caindo na Real (1994) spent three weeks at #1 on the US singles chart.

Loeb's big break came through Ethan Hawke, a neighbor of hers in New York City and whom she met through mutual friends. Hawke, who was filming Caindo na Real (1994), submitted director Ben Stiller a demo tape of Loeb singing "Stay (I Missed You)", which he accepted. Hawke also directed and produced the video-clip to the song.

Attended The Hockaday School in Dallas, one of the top private all-girls schools in the US. She graduated in 1986.
