The month may still be in its early days, but fans of Kevin Smiths Clerks are already getting the most out of it. This is so because ComicBook reports that Clerks is currently streaming for free on Pluto, three decades following its theatrical release and, without a doubt, serving as the perfect watch for the season. Released in 1994, Clerks is the first of Smiths View Askewniverse films and stars the filmmaker along with Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Lisa Spoonauer, Jason Mewes, and Scott Mosier.

My brain still struggles to compute the fact that Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp are both almost 60. The more things change, the more they stay the same. That may be the overriding theme of Clerks III, the third, and perhaps final, entry in writer-director Kevin Smith’s Quick Stop convenience story trilogy that has been the anchor for nearly his entire canon of films.

While certain life-shaking events have taken place in the 16 years since Smith made Clerks II—events which we won’t reveal here—the new movie gets the most mileage out of familiar situations and characters in the orbit of the Quick Stop, the fictional New Jersey store based on Smith’s own early work history at a convenience store before he became a filmmaker.

Review: Back in 1994, Kevin Smith’s indie classic, Clerks, became the unsung hero of those working behind the counter and in customer service. It also inspired many young filmmakers to make movies of their own. I became an instant fan of the hockey jersey-wearing Smith, as well as his on-screen persona of “Silent Bob.” And yes, I’ve appreciated much of what he brought to his later features. Kevin Smith says he started thinking about another Clerks film after finishing the 2006 sequel. While he ultimately accomplished the task — Clerks III hits theaters courtesy of Lionsgate in partnership with Fathom Events on Sept. 13-18 — the beloved filmmaker is relieved that it’s not based on his original script.

Lionsgate has revealed the first official trailer for Kevin Smith's Clerks III, another sequel to his iconic B&w Clerks indie film that premiered at Sundance in 1994. Kevin Smith writes and directs, again, and brings back the classic cast for one more adventure: Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks and Jeff Anderson as Randal Graves, the Quick Stop store clerks, return with a cast including Marilyn Ghigliotti, Rosario Dawson, and Trevor Fehrman. Plus of course Jason Mewes as Jay & Kevin Smith as Silent Bob. Another meta story from Ks: after surviving a heart attack, Randal decides to make a movie with Dante about their lives at the Quick Stop convenience store. Some of you may have forgotten that Clerks II was actually pretty good, and this looks like it will be harmless fun.

The original Clerks was, arguably, geek culture’s first major shot across the mainstream bow upon its Oct. 1994 release. Written and directed by Smith, the movie is now wrapping up filming after a month-long shoot at the original Quick Stop store in Leonardo, New Jersey. Ahead of her return as Veronica in the upcoming sequel Clerks 3, Clerks star Marilyn Ghigliotti will portray a gypsy in the new comedy movie Thursday the 12th. Aiming for a theatrical release this summer, the movie was originally scheduled to be released in April before theater closures and production delays brought about a change in plans.

Director Brad Leo Lyon also plans to be present at various screenings of the movie across the United States to participate in Q&a sessions with viewers after the movie plays, though the official road show tour dates have yet to be revealed due to what's been happening lately in the world.

The Library of Congress has revealed the 25 movies that will be preserved as part of the National Film Registry for 2019. Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden revealed this year's selections, including seven titles directed by women, which is an unparalleled number. Some of the other key additions this year include Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It and Kevin Smith's directorial debut Clerks.

Another star from the original movie is returning for Clerks 3, as Marilyn Ghigliotti has announced her casting in the upcoming sequel. In the original Clerks, Ghigliotti starred as Dante's girlfriend Veronica - the one who brings him lasagna at work, not the one who sleeps with a dead guy in the bathroom.

On Friday, Marilyn Ghigliotti posted a series of photos on Facebook of a reunion with her Clerks co-stars, and in the caption, the actress confirms she will be reprising the role of Veronica in the new movie. She also explains how Smith revealed her casting to her during the photo shoot, with the photographer catching her genuine excitement. From the Facebook post:

We still have much to learn about Clerks 3, which Kevin Smith now seems determined to make. But at the very least, the soundtrack is probably going to rock, literally, as former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is set to provide the score for the movie. For anyone who has been keeping on Way's career in his post-mcr years, this seems like a perfect match, considering his sensibilities, and considering what this franchise is.

It's back to Quick Stop for Kevin Smith, as the filmmaker has just announced his new plans to make Clerks 3. In a photo posted to his official Facebook account, Smith poses with Clerks co-stars Jason Mewes and Jeff Anderson, also revealing his intentions to finally develop the sequel. To be clear, Smith says he's begun writing an all-new screenplay for the third Clerks movie, meaning it won't be the same script he'd previously written when he tried to make the sequel in the past. Better yet, Smith confirms Anderson is finally on board to reprise the role of perennial service worker Randal Graves, meaning there shouldn't be any hold-ups for getting the movie made this time. At this point in time, many film screenings are oddly missing from the lineup, except for kiddie pic Teen Titans Go! To the Movies! on Friday. Perhaps there will be more as they’re often announced at the last minute or suddenly during the confab (Read Lionsgate’s Blair Witch). In 1993, Kevin Smith made a movie. Clerks was shot in black and white over the course of three weeks, at night, in the convenience store where Smith worked during the day, on a shoestring budget of $27,575. Smith funded the film himself by dipping into his savings, selling all his comics and maxing out several credit cards.

Even though it became an indie phenomenon when it was picked up by Miramax (who gave it a new soundtrack using a post-production budget that was ten times the cost of principal photography) at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival, it doesn't have 'franchise starter' written all over it.

Lisa Spoonauer, known for playing Caitlin Bree in Kevin Smith’s cult classic Clerks, has died at the age of 44.

She died at home in New Jersey on Saturday, according to her obituary. Born and raised in the state, Spoonauer appeared in just two films: 1994’s Clerks and 1997’s Bartender. She was briefly married to her Clerks costar Jeff Anderson from 1998-1999, and later went on to become a restaurant manager and event planner.

The first trailer for this Kevin Smith biopic dropped back in March 2015, when production was just getting under way, but today we have the red band trailer, along with details on where you can see this film yourself.
