Black Adam Actor Noah Centineo To Play John Rambo In Planned Prequel Movie
Image
We recently got word that a Rambo prequel is moving forward at Millennium Media, and the project has now found its lead.

Deadline reports that Noah Centineo is in talks to play a younger take on the legendary action hero. Specific plot details are still under wraps, but, as you'd expect, the movie "will be the origin story of a young John Rambo during the Vietnam War."

The original First Blood followed a tormented Vietnam vet (Sylvester Stallone) who is targeted by a corrupt sheriff when he arrives in a small town to see an old friend.

Stallone, who played John Rambo in all five previous movies, is said to be aware of the prequel and Centineo's attachment, but is not currently involved with the film.

Sisu director Jalmari Helander is set to direct from a screenplay by writing duo Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.

Producers are Kevin King-Templeton on behalf of Templeton Media,...

Who Was the First Celebrity to Get Roasted by ‘South Park’?
Image
South Park is obviously famous for its not-so-flattering depictions of celebrities, be they sitting presidents or music icons with the power to turn into grotesque Kaiju monsters.

Some stars clearly hated the show’s parodies — pour one out for the assistants who allegedly lost their jobs after quoting Cartman’s racist “Jennifer Lopez” character in front of the real J. Lo — while others were seemingly flattered to be spoofed by South Park. Like Joe Jonas, who recently admitted that it was an “honor” to be abused by Mickey Mouse on the long-running cartoon.

But who was the very first celebrity to feel South Park’s wrath?

Recently, a fan on Reddit pointed to an episode featuring a Kathie Lee Gifford caricature as the earliest example of a South Park celebrity parody. The Gifford character appeared in the show’s third episode, “Weight Gain 4000.” In it, Cartman wins an essay contest...

Embark on a journey to Silverado with a new 4K Blu-ray for the film’s 40th Anniversary
Image
Blu-ray.com has reported on Sony’s newest physical media release for the 1985 western Silverado. The Lawrence Kasdan film is packed with an all-star cast that includes Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum, Jeff Fahey, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Hunt & Brian Dennehy. The movie will come in a Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray combo pack and is scheduled to be available on October 7.

Our Eic, Chris Bumbray, raved about the film in a retrospective column and video, in which he stated, “Silverado is so much fun that it’s insane to think that the movie never spawned a western franchise that would have sustained a whole series of films. Kasdan should still be making Silverado adventures thirty years later. For one thing, this was Kasdan in his prime, so the writing and craftsmanship is right-on.”

The description reads,

“This spirited Western stars Academy Award®-winner Kevin Kline,...

Pixar’s Delicious 96% Rotten Tomatoes Masterpiece Cooks Its Way to Disney+’s Global Top 5
Image
One of Pixar’s best animations of all time has found success once more, years after it landed in theaters, and it’s a well-deserved one at that. Produced by the animation studio for Disney, Ratatouille was a critical and commercial hit upon its release in June 2007 and was a recipient of multiple accolades at major awards events. Now with the pic available on streaming, it's reminding fans and showing newcomers what a brilliant watch it is, as proven by its status on the global charts.

Per FlixPatrol, Ratatouille has entered the top 5 movies on Disney+ globally, taking the #5 spot, right below Elio and above 2005’s Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch. At the same time, Snow White, Captain America: Brave New World, and Sharks Up Close With Bertie Gregory are in the first three spots. Image
Severancestar Michael Chernus takes on the role of one of America's most infamous serial killers in Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy. The first teaser for the series, as well as newly-released images, give a first look at the series, which will comprehensively depict the life of a man who seemed to be a respectable community pillar and neighbor until his horrific crimes were unearthed. All eight episodes of the series will premiere on Peacock on October 16.

The spare, chilling teaser consists mostly of shots of Gacy's infamous suburban Chicago home, its facade of normality occasionally interrupted by reminders of the crimes committed by its resident. In one shot, blood seemingly spatters in a sink, until a dollop of blue reveals that it's actually clown makeup; Gacy performed as a clown for charities and children's hospitals while living a double life as a serial killer. Later, the camera lingers on...

'Tulsa King' Star's, 78, Breakout Action Hit Lands on Free Streaming 43 Years Later
Image
With Tulsa King still fresh in viewers’ minds after its explosive second season finale, Paramount is giving Sylvester Stallone fans even more reason to celebrate. While The General bides his time until Season 3, one of Stallone’s earliest and most defining action roles is heading to free streaming. Beginning July 1, First Blood — the 1982 action-thriller that introduced audiences to John Rambo — will be available to stream on Pluto TV, letting a whole new audience experience the film that helped cement Stallone as a household name.

While Stallone was already known for Rocky, First Blood proved he wasn’t just the scrappy underdog — he was also a full-fledged action icon. With a quieter, more psychologically tormented performance than his usual macho hero routine, Stallone turned Rambo into something more than just a one-man army. He made him human.

What Is 'First Blood' About?

Long before Rambo: Last Blood turned the franchise into a glorified slasher,...

Mia Farrow on Her First Tony Nomination, Returning to Broadway in ‘The Roommate’
Image
Despite decades of acclaim as an actress, Mia Farrow went into her role in the Broadway play The Roommate last fall with some trepidation.

“I am not a supremely confident individual. From what I’ve learned of life, confidence is almost always misplaced, in any area you care to glance,” Farrow said.

“I do have self doubt, but I’ve learned to live with it. I’m able to sort strut around feeling supremely confident,” she continued.

That confidence paid off as Farrow received her first Tony nomination for her role as the initially meek homebody Sharon in the play by Jen Silverman, which ran at the Booth Theatre on Broadway from September through December 2024. Farrow starred in the two-hander, opposite Patti LuPone, who plays a Bronx grifter renting a room in Sharon’s Iowa farmhouse. That pairing opens up Farrow’s Sharon to the world, including the world of criminal activities,...

A 'Tommy Boy' Sequel Pitch Was Rejected by David Spade
Image
Released in 1995, Tommy Boy has gone on to become a comedy movie staple and cult classic. Starring Saturday Night Live castmates and close friends David Spade and Chris Farley, the film played off of their undeniable chemistry and likely wouldn't work if one person were taken out of the equation. This could be why a sequel never came to fruition, given the passing of Farley in 1997 from a drug overdose at the age of 33. Still, that didn't stop Spade from receiving a pitch for a sequel, and he's now revealing his response to a potential Tommy Boy follow-up.

During an appearance on Theo Von's podcast, This Past Weekend, Spade reveals that he was pitched an idea for Tommy Boy 2, and it's something he turned down without hesitation because he can't imagine a sequel without Farley. Not only were Spade and Farley co-stars in the film, they also shared the...

Andrew Ahn on Adapting Ang Lee’s ‘The Wedding Banquet’ for 2025: ‘What If the Bride Was Also Queer and Had a Queer Partner?’
Image
“Queer theory takes the joy out of being gay!” blurts Bowen Yang’s character Chris in one of several laugh-out-loud yet emotional moments in “The Wedding Banquet,” Korean American filmmaker Andrew Ahn’s fourth feature in just nine years. It’s a “reimagining” rather than a remake of Ang Lee’s beloved 1993 Asian American rom-com classic of the same name.

Chris, who has put his PhD on hold, passes his days as a birder. When his amiable, handsome Korean Mfa art student boyfriend Min (Han Gi-Chan) — in dire need of a green card to avoid being shuttled back to Korea and take rein of a chaebol managed by his astute grandmother played by Yuh-Jung Youn — proposes, Chris, though quite in love with Min, is petrified of committing. How can he, if he can’t commit to even a PhD? As his cousin (Bobo Le) sharply observes, Chris is merely interested...

Ron Howard's Beloved Sci-Fi Classic Is Impossible To Watch Online
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The most frequent fact cited about Ron Howard's 1985 sci-fi film "Cocoon" is that star Wilford Brimley was only 50 years old when he appeared in it. One might have heard the statistic that Tom Cruise was the same age when he made "Jack Reacher" and "Oblivion." This was said to be notable because Brimley plays an aged retiree in "Cocoon," and his advanced age is part of the film's plot, while Cruise was still leading action franchises. Many young people can't wrap their heads around the fact that two 50-year-old men should look so different in age.

Another fun fact: Did you know that pretty much only people around Wilford Brimley's age in "Cocoon" remember the movie "Cocoon?" Ron Howard's film was a notable hit at the time, making over $85 million on a $17 million budget (those numbers translate to $252 million...

Brian Dennehy's Best Film Is Finally Available Again
Image
On the big screen, the late American actor Brian Dennehy was known primarily for his supporting roles in crime thrillers, Westerns, and action flicks, frequently playing intimidating and often corrupt law enforcement officers and politicians in films like First Blood (1982) and Silverado (1985), while also sometimes playing kind-hearted father figures in more family-friendly films like Tommy Boy (1995) and Ratatouille (2007). But, in a 2007 interview with CBS, Dennehy revealed that he personally considered his best performance to be a leading role in a relatively unknown art film from 1987: The Belly of an Architect, directed by British filmmaker Peter Greenaway. A perhaps apocryphal quote has Dennehy saying, "I've been in a lot of movies, but this is the first film I've made."

The film, which was recently given its first Blu-ray release in the U.S., shows a more vulnerable side of Dennehy that has more in common with his on-stage portrayal of...

Tommy Boy Director's Favorite Chris Farley Memory Involves A Classic Movie Star Impression And Some Car Chaos [Exclusive]
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the 1995 comedy classic "Tommy Boy," and while a handful of moments in it don't hold up to modern comedy sensibilities, the film is still largely a hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt story about a lovable loser tasked with saving his family's small-town auto parts company. Though Chris Farley had appeared in a handful of movies already, "Tommy Boy" was the first starring role for the "Saturday Night Live" superstar on the big screen, and despite the intense pressure of their schedules, he and fellow "SNL" star David Spade carry the film on their shoulders as their characters trade insults and ultimately go from annoyed acquaintances to genuine friends over the course of the story.

Since "Tommy Boy" was his first big movie, Farley wasn't prepared for the level of mental stamina required to lead a feature film.

John Feinstein, Acclaimed Sports Columnist and Author, Dies at 69
Image
John Feinstein, the Washington Post sportswriter and columnist who famously spent a season with temperamental Indiana University men’s basketball coach Bobby Knight to write the admired 1986 book A Season on the Brink, died Thursday. He was 69.

Feinstein died in McLean, Virginia, at the home of his brother, Robert Feinstein, the Post reported. The cause of death may have been a heart attack.

On Wednesday, he had filed a column for the newspaper on longtime Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo.

Feinstein wrote more than 40 books, including 1988’s A Season Inside, also about college basketball; 1995’s A Good Walk Spoiled, about the PGA Tour; 1990’s Hard Courts, about pro tennis; 1996’s A Civil War, about the season that led to the 1995 Army-Navy football game; 2004’s Caddy for Life: The Bruce Edwards Story, about Tom Watson’s caddy and his death from Als; and 2014’s Where Nobody Knows Your Name,...

Reacher Season 3's Biggest Action Scene Pays Homage To A Sylvester Stallone Classic
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Reacher" season 3 episode 6.

Jack Reacher doesn't need to prove himself as a hero at this point. Across 29 books and what is now almost three seasons of Prime Video's "Reacher" series, the character has proven he is every bit the archetypal American action hero, dispatching armies of enemies with ease and weathering the kind of beatings that would snuff out lesser heroes. He's an itinerant former military policeman with an unwavering commitment to justice and chivalry who is always one step ahead of those that dare to cross him. Fans know the formula and Reacher delivers, time and time again.

But there's no doubt this particular American hero is indebted to those that came before him. While he clearly shares a lot in common with other contemporary characters, such as the similarly unstoppable John Wick, he is also quite clearly the modern equivalent of the muscle-bound...

The Blacklist: Everything We Know About Raymond Reddington's Real Identity
Image
With its excellent premise of a supervillain-level criminal joining forces with the FBI, "The Blacklist" ran rings around much of its crime drama competition when it comes to sheer creativity. The show always seemed to have a massive plot twist or a fun gimmick like the season 7 live action/animation hybrid episode up its sleeve. Even though your mileage may vary on whether "The Blacklist" could sustain its speed after Liz Keen's (Megan Boone) death in season 8 robbed it of the crucia tension between her and Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader), the show ultimately ran on Spader fuel, enabling it to keep at least some of its momentum for the remaining two seasons.

In fact, if fans have a bone to pick with "The Blacklist," it's that the show was too mysterious toward the end. After a decade of dropping hint after hint of Red's real name (and undoing...

The Brave And The Bold: We Think We Know Every Actor Cast - You'll Be Shocked At Joker
Image
After the revelation of the Caped Crusader's Dilf like physique in Creature Commandos, I was literally one hundred percent sure Alan Ritchson was going to be cast as Batman. I wrote an article which you can read here in which I definitely wasn’t speculating for fun about who Batman could be cast as, but truly believed I was speaking to you as a messenger from our savior, James Gunn himself. Amazingly, what I reported as definitive fact, was somehow wrong.

It’s now being reported that the deceased actor Brian Dennehy is absolutely going to play the Dark Knight! This will either be accomplished through the wonders of AI or through ominous necromancy. Time can only tell if Gunn will recruit Chat Gpt to bring us a tasteful CGI Brian Dennehy or if he will be able to harness dark forces to bring Mr. Dennehy back from the dead.

'Righteous Kill' Starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro Is the Best Thriller for 'Dexter' Fans
Image
Dexter — a punchy indictment of all-too-common prosecutorial failures — remains as stingingly relevant as ever. For lovers of tales about clever, meticulous, and oft-weird characters, the show will never expire. And things are seemingly getting better. The crime drama’s fans never thought they’d have it this good, considering how poorly things ended the first time around. Debra’s death and Dexter’s happy ending arc in the finale left a bad taste in fans’ mouths. Beyond that, the final season, in general, was considered weak by most critics, scoring 35% on Rotten Tomatoes (the lowest for any season). Thankfully, the brilliant minds at Showtime have made serious efforts to write the wrongs.

Batman: We Think We Know Who's Been Cast As The Dcu's Dark Knight - And It Won't Be Who You Expect!
Image
Ever since James Gunn announced that a new big-screen Batman would be cast in the upcoming The Brave and the Bold movie, speculation has run rampant about which actor might have been enlisted to suit-up as the iconic DC Comics hero.

Now, we might just have our answer!

The latest episode of Creature Commandos officially unveiled the Dcu's Dark Knight in a moment that's had the internet abuzz, and while we were only given a quick glimpse of Gotham's protector in animated form and in silhouette, it seems so very obvious which actor Gunn and DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran have brought on board to don the cape and cowl.

Clearly, we're looking at a Batman who spends quite a lot of time in the gym, and definitely doesn't skip leg day - not to mention arm day, ass day, shoulder day, waist day, head day, wrist day, and ankle day.

Image
In the 1970s, Sylvester Stallone became synonymous with the Rocky movies. Both the first film in 1976 and its sequel in 1978 cemented the underdog boxer as an iconic character, endearing the actor to millions around the globe. Rocky III in 1982 further proved his drawing power, as the film grossed $270 million at the box office against a budget of $17 million. However, that same year, Stallone started a new cinematic legacy that has stood the test of time, and it's finally found a new streaming home.

Tommy Boy and Black Sheep were one-two punches from the duo as they ventured from the small screen in Saturday Night Live to the big screen with their respective antics. Blu-ray.com has announced that Paramount will be remastering a 4K Blu-ray of Tommy Boy, while Black Sheep also gets an ultra-hd upgrade, but from Kino Lorber despite also being a Paramount movie. Both are also due to hit retailers the same day on March 25, 2025.

Tommy Boy will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with this release and the description reads, “Holy Smokes. one of the funniest films of the 1990s, Tommy Boy, has been remastered for 4K Blu-ray. Philip Seymour Hoffman Encouraged Mike Nichols to Apologize to Marcia Gay Harden for ‘The Seagull’ Broadway Production
Image
Even Philip Seymour Hoffman recognized how “hard” Mike Nichols was on Marcia Gay Harden during the famed “The Seagull” Broadway production in 2001.

More than 20 years later, Harden recalled during Sony Music Entertainment’s “Dinner’s On Me” podcast, hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, how director Nichols treated her like the “guinea pig” during the star-studded play. Years later, Nichols apologized to Harden for how he treated her — but only after Hoffman’s urging.

“I had won an Oscar for ‘Pollock’ and I got an offer, not even an audition, to play [character] Masha in ‘The Seagull’ in Central Park,” Harden said. “The cast of names was bonkers: It was Chris[topher] Walken, Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Natalie Portman, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Stephen Spinella, Larry Pine, Deborah Monk, John Goodman. So of course I’m going to do it.”

Harden continued that she hoped Nichols would find her to be “the new Meryl Streep,...

Horror Master John Carpenter Almost Directed One Of The Worst Christmas Movies Ever Made
Image
We've finally reached the time of the year when everyone dedicates an unnecessary amount of time to arguing over the same, cyclical topics ad nauseam — like whether or not "Die Hard" is a Christmas movie or what film deserves the biggest gift under the tree as the best Christmas movie of all time. Just as hotly debated is what constitutes the "worst" Christmas movie of all time, which is a lot harder to determine depending on what you deem "bad." One film that is frequently in the running for the dishonor is 1985's "Santa Claus: The Movie," directed by Jeannot Szwarc, who also gave us "Supergirl" and the equally polarizing "Jaws 2."

On paper, "Santa Claus: The Movie" has a lot going for it. It's about a man named Claus (David Huddleston) who delivers toys in his small village, eventually becoming Santa Claus after crossing paths with an elf toy-maker,...

10 Best Westerns That Don't Star John Wayne or Clint Eastwood
Image
Since the earliest days of Hollywood, the Western genre has given cinema some of its greatest stories and stars, from Clint Eastwood headlining the Dollars Trilogy to John Wayne in The Searchers. While those two stars are practically the public faces of the genre, the Old West has had some of its best stories told through different stars, from classic leading men to modern character actors.

Westerns explore a variety of themes and sub-genres, from deep character studies and genre deconstruction to revenge, forgiveness, and the meaning of justice. The genre continues to appeal to fans of everything from adventure and action to period drama and even horror. Just as the genre has great versatility in its stories, it has also found some of its best success through a diverse assortment of stars, showing the West can be great without John Wayne or Clint Eastwood.

Does Apple TV's Presumed Innocent Connect to the Original Harrison Ford Movie?
Image
The following contains spoilers for Apple TV's Presumed Innocent, including revealing who committed the murder at the heart of the series.

In 1987, two years before John Grisham published his first novel, author Scott Turow became the reigning master of the legal thriller, thanks to the gigantic success of his book Presumed Innocent. Three years later, the bestseller spawned a feature film adaptation starring Harrison Ford, directed by one of Hollywood's most acclaimed filmmakers, Alan J. Pakula. More than a modest success, Presumed Innocent earned over $200 million at the worldwide box office and became Warner Bros.'s highest-grossing film of the year. Then, the IP sat dormant for over 30 years.

Like Scott Turow was once the master of the legal thriller on the page, television producer David E. Kelley has earned his reputation as the reigning king of legal dramas and thrillers on TV after an impressive body of nearly four decades of work.

The Netflix Action Thriller Stephen King Recommends Is A Must-Watch
Image
Throughout film history, there have been companies and, for certain stretches, whole studios notorious for churning out garbage. Obviously, American International Pictures had a rep for schlock, but they hit for a shockingly high average at their late 1950s and '60s peak. There's also Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus' Cannon Films, which sparkled with its constellation of B-list action stars like Chuck Norris and Charles Bronson, but Golan was a filmmaker himself with dreams of respectability who courted legit directors like Franco Zeffirelli, Jerry Schatzberg, and Andrei Konchalovsky to make Academy Awards-worthy movies for his exploitation factory.

One of the more outlandishly awful runs from any production entity was Hollywood Pictures, which was created by Disney to nurture fledgling executives and feed film-starved multiplexes — lacking in the wake of MGM/UA, Lorimar and Deg's financial difficulties — with new movies. Disney wasn't sending its best to Hollywood Pictures, so agents...

Kurt Russell Had To Beat Out A Long List Of Hollywood Legends To Star In The Thing
Image
If there's one thing we know about the alien known only as The Thing, it's that it can appear as just about any living being that it wants to. In that spirit, it's no big surprise that the role of R.J. MacReady, the resident helicopter pilot of Outpost 31, was one that could've gone to any number of actors when director John Carpenter was developing "The Thing" at Universal Pictures in the early '80s. On the other hand, this fact may come as a surprise to those who hadn't realized other actors were in the running for the part, given that the role eventually went to one of Carpenter's muses: Kurt Russell. The marriage of Russell, Carpenter, and MacReady seems so natural in hindsight that it's wild to think about anyone else playing the part.

Even more surprising is Carpenter's admission that Russell wasn't his first choice for MacReady. There...

Rambo Was Supposed to Be Stallone's 'Career Killer'
Image
Quick Links Stallone Took Advantage of an Empty Niche First Blood Was the Crossroads of Stallone's Professional Life Stallone Invents the Modern International Blockbuster How Stallone Learned to Prolong His Fifteen Minutes of Fame

It's tempting to designate Sylvester Stallone's breakout performance in Rocky as his most important performance and crowing achievement. But, looking at the overall arc of his resume and his acting roles, it's not true. 1982 First Blood (the opening chapter in the Rambo series) has shaped not only his trajectory as the pioneer of modern action flick but all of his future blockbusters, with subsequent productions latching onto the movie's visual and marketing choices, for better or worse. It's the role of mullet-loving Rambo that came to define him as an actor and pop culture institution, not the punch-drunk Philadelphian, Rocky Balboa. So why did he want every copy of the movie burned?

‘Rebel Ridge’ Review: Jeremy Saulnier’s Netflix Thriller Is a Gripping Modern Riff on ‘First Blood’
Image
The films of Jeremy Saulnier have staked out a unique space in film culture over the last decade. They’re not supernatural or overtly horrific enough to be classified as “Elevated Horror” (that once-proud moniker that now garners nearly as much derision as fawning), but calling them “Elevated Suspense” feels about right. And Saulnier’s films even share a favorite trope with Alfred Hitchcock, the Master of Suspense himself: that of the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That’s the initial grip of Saulnier’s latest thriller, the Netflix film “Rebel Ridge,” which stars Aaron Pierre as Terry, a man who runs afoul of local law enforcement in a small Louisiana town after he commits the crime of riding a bike while Black. The officers who stop Terry illegally search him and find over $30,000 in cash, which they seize even after Terry explains that he...

Rebel Ridge | Jeremy Saulnier’s action thriller gets its debut trailer
Jeremy Saulnier
Blue Ruin and Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier finally has his latest thriller on Netflix next month. Here’s the trailer for Rebel Ridge:

Buy them a drink or two, and even Netflix’s own executives might admit that the streaming giant’s batting average when it comes to action thrillers isn’t exactly high. But courtesy of Blue Ruin and Green Room filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier, along comes what might be a genuine corker: the long-in-the-making Rebel Ridge.

It stars British actor Aaron Pierre as a former Marine who attempts to post bail for his incarcerated cousin, only to have the bag of cash snatched by a bunch of burly cops. Tension escalates, and matters soon spin wildly out of control as the police realise they’ve messed with the wrong chap.

We mentioned a few weeks ago that the premise sounds a bit like the Sylvester Stallone classic First Blood,...

Netflix's Rebel Ridge Trailer Looks Like A Modern Rambo (In A Good Way)
Image
Heads up, folks: One of the best trailers of 2024 has just dropped.

Jeremy Saulnier, the writer/director behind films like "Green Room" and "Blue Ruin," has returned with "Rebel Ridge," a movie about a guy who is trying to bail his cousin out of jail, but whose life savings is unjustly taken from him by small-town police officers who seem to operate with impunity. After calmly explaining his case and trying to get his money back, the man takes things into his own hands -- and that's when the cops realize they've made a huge mistake: The dude they're harassing used to be a Marine, and he has no intention of meekly putting his tail between his legs and slinking away from this situation. Quite the opposite, actually: The guy becomes a one-man wrecking crew hellbent on justice, and he's going to make them regret ever messing with him in the first place.

Presumed Innocent's 2 Big Changes Give Jake Gyllenhaal A Major Advantage Over The Original Movie
Image
Warning! Contains spoilers for Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent.

Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent changes Rusty and Raymond's dynamic, adding political intrigue and increasing the stakes of Raymond and Guardia's rivalry. The show makes Rusty a more morally gray character and changes Carolyn's pregnancy status, forcing viewers to question his guilt. The show's diverse cast and more complex family dynamics enhance the storytelling, making it a more inclusive and engaging adaptation.

Two major changes in Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent give the show a significant advantage over the 1990 movie. Based on Scott Turow's legal thriller novel of the same name, the Presumed Innocent movie and show adopt very similar narratives. Both focus on prosecutor Rusty Sabich, who gets accused of murdering his former coworker, Carolyn Polhemus. The movie and the show also walk through the emotional turmoil Rusty's family has to endure because of his past actions.

‘Presumed Innocent’ is latest in long line of Scott Turow mysteries on TV
Image
Attorney-turned-selling novelist Scott Turow made the cover of Time magazine the summer of 1990 describing him as the “Bard of the Litigious Age.” And 34 years later, the 75-year-old still is. Over the past four decades, Turow has written 13 works of fiction which have been translated into 40 languages and have sold more than 30 million copies. Several have been transformed into miniseries and TV movies.

In fact, Hollywood filmmakers were salivating in 1987 for the rights to Turow’s first novel, “Presumed Innocent,” a clever, sexy murder mystery with twists and turns that would baffle even Columbo, about a prosecutor accused of murdering the attractive colleague with whom he had been romantically involved “It began a sort of Hollywood frenzy,” Turow told me in a 1992 L.A. Times interview. “It was one weekend’s madness.” And for good reason, the novel spent 44 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list and another five months on the paperback charts.

The Hard Way (1991): The Best Movie You Never Saw
Image
The 80s and 90s were a great time for character actors. Guys like Gene Hackman, Brian Dennehy, Christopher Walken, John Lithgow, Morgan Freeman and many others occupied this really interesting place where they could lead their own movies and be just as comfortable playing supporting roles – whether large or small – in bigger films without worrying about things legit movie stars have to, such as bankability. Of that era, one of the biggest character actors was no doubt the fast-talking James Woods. In the eighties, his star rose thanks to movies like Videodrome, Salvador, True Believer and many others. While he never became a legit box office superstar, he was in that niche place where he could lead his own movies, such as the underrated Best Seller, while also playing plum supporting roles in movies like Chaplin, The Specialist and Casino. He was noted as one of the town’s biggest scene-stealers,...

Jake Gyllenhall will star in a remake of a classic $221 million Harrison Ford movie later this year, and it just got much more exciting considering his performance in Road House. HorRHIFFic 2024: ‘All Clowns Are Bastards’ Review
Image
Stars: Frédéric Stromenger, Kristina Kostiv, Mara Luka, Corinna Bergmann, Robin Czerny, Nicolas Dinkel, Luis Huayna, Marion Alessandra Becker, Nora Ökten | Written and Directed by Erik Weise

If you had asked me to name my favourite killer clown movie a few days ago I would’ve said the original 90s TV version of Stephen King’s It; or the Brian Dennehy starring biopic To Catch a Killer, which told the true story of the pursuit of serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Now? It Has to be All Clowns Are Bastards.

Why? Well writer/director Erik Weise has not only crafted a killer clown movie but also a romantic love story, a fourth-wall-breaking comedy and what – to me – feels like a modern-day take on the classic Troma movies of the 80s and early 90s.

All Clowns Are Bastards follows the man-eating killer clown Mitchell (Frédéric Stromenger), who kidnaps his latest victim, Dennis,...
