Sister of River Phoenix, Rain Phoenix, Joaquin Phoenix, & Liberty Phoenix.

She named her older son Indiana after her late brother, River Phoenix, who played young Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones e a Última Cruzada (1989).

Her name, Summer Joy, represented her family's reaction to being back in the United States after leaving the religious cult, The Children of God.

Has 2 sons: Indiana Affleck (b. May 31, 2004) & Atticus Affleck (b. January 12, 2008) with ex-husband, Casey Affleck.

Ex-sister-in-law of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.

The name of her store (Some Odd Rubies) is a play on the owners' names (Some for Summer, Odd for Odessa, and Rubies for Ruby).

Her sister, Rain Phoenix, is the band's lead vocalist. "Paper Cranes" plays mostly shows in Gainesville, Florida.

Her father, from California, has English, along with Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, German, Irish, Welsh, and French Huguenot, ancestry. Her mother was born in the Bronx, New York, to Jewish parents whose families were from Hungary and Russia.

Was a member of the (now defunct) quasi-religious alternative band "The Causey Way" (along with her elder sister Rain Phoenix). She played keyboards and sang back vocals, occasionally. In keeping with the pseudo-religious "Causey" theme, each band member, when they were inducted, was given a new Causey name. Summer's Causey name was "Sum Sum Causey".
