Her real mother, Vanessa Redgrave, plays the mother of Joely's character on the TV series Estética (2003).

She and her mother Vanessa Redgrave both appear in Anônimo (2011) as the same character "Queen Elizabeth I" at different ages during the story.

Graduated from RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) in 1985. Is now an Associate Member.

Both she and her sister Natasha Richardson starred in remakes of classic Disney movies. Joely starred in 101 Dálmatas (1996), while Natasha starred in Operação Cupido (1998).

In the joint ventures made with her real-life mother Vanessa Redgrave, Joely has either played her mother's character as a young woman (Sombras do Passado (1985), The Fever (2004), Anônimo (2011)) or her screen daughter (Estética (2003)).

Everyone knows in the industry that when these great roles come up, every two years, there's a huge number of people up for them. I'm not one of those top five females that can personally finance any film.

Seize the day. Well, I aspire to that anyway.

OK, I wasn't as successful as, say, Julia Roberts, but I'd spent years in a very respectable career, some big American films but a host of other smaller, really exciting, maybe experimental films, being paid rubbish but working with fine people, that was what I thought I was known for.
