Does an actor need to be familiar with a franchise in order to want to join it? Not according to Madelaine Petsch, who's made it clear she wants to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe despite admitting she's never seen a Marvel movie.
Petsch, who broke out with her performance as Cheryl Blossom on the hit television series Riverdale, currently stars as Maya Lucas in the new Strangers trilogy, with The Strangers: Chapter 1 opening in 2024 and The Strangers: Chapter 2 opening on Sept. 26, 2025. She now has her sights on the MCU, specifically the X-Men.
Speaking with The Direct to promote The Strangers: Chapter 2, Petsch was asked which superhero she'd like to play, and she said, "Jean Grey, obviously." Petsch admits she's unfamiliar with the character's existing big-screen outings, saying, "I've not seen many Marvel films. Ryan Reynolds has never been shy about trolling Marvel fans or teasing upcoming news or releases, but this time, he might have actually teased something special. The Deadpool & Wolverine star dropped a cryptic image on Instagram: the Avengers “A” logo painted over with a red anarchist “A”. No caption. No explanation. For most people, that’s just random graphic design. But for MCU fans, it’s basically saying “Deadpool is crashing Avengers: Doomsday.” Disney is reportedly planning a second cast reveal for Doomsday on August 27, similar to the live-stream stunt they pulled months ago with rows of empty chairs tagged with actor names. Back then, it was a fun guessing game. This time, the internet sleuths over on r/MCUTheories think they’ve already cracked the code: the missing Fox X-Men actors. One fan put it plainly: “Really hoping for Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin and...

The movie also stars Maggie Grace, Leland Orser, Jon Gries, David Warshofsky, Katie Cassidy, Holly Valance, and Famke Janssen.
The film first hit theaters in France on February 27, 2008. Though it received mixed reviews from critics, it became a big financial success, making $226 million worldwide on a budget of just $25 million.

In a full-circle moment, James Marsden is returning to the role that first put him “on the map.”
The Paradise actor and newly minted Emmy nominee sat down with Vanity Fair recently to discuss reprising his X-Men character Cyclops in the Russo Brothers’ forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
“I’m getting a little long in the tooth to put on the superhero costume,” he said, laughing. “I was excited because you’re a part of something gigantic, and I’ve spent 20 years listening to people say, ‘When are you coming back? When are you coming back? Are you coming back?'”
The Westworld and Dead to Me alum continued, “I’m dead. Well, maybe not. I’m going to have a tough time struggling to get into costume if they waited a couple more years. So it’s been a blast. It really has. It’s been a nice little homecoming to...

With “Paradise,” James Marsden received an Emmy nomination for playing the leader of the United States — but it’s not the first time we’ve seen him sitting in the driver’s seat. Soon, Marvel fans will see the actor once again portraying the leader of the X-Men as well.

Of all the returning X-Men lined up for Avengers: Doomsday, few got fans more excited than James Marsden coming back to portray Scott Summers/Cyclops in what is bound to be one of next year's most massive movie releases. He's always been a fan favorite in the role, but he's also been frequently shortchanged by the X-Men films he's appeared in. To say he never really got to have his moments in the franchise would be an understatement, but Doomsday might afford him that overdue opportunity, something Marsden is very excited about as he gets behind the visor again.
During a chat with Vanity Fair, Marsden spoke about the current stage of his career, which has seen him earning some stellar reviews for Paradise — plus a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, his second after his hilarious turn on Jury Duty. Another part of this current stage is his return as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday,...

Last year, Deadpool & Wolverine broke the box office with a sendoff for the 20th Century Fox Marvel universe that was both loving and laugh-worthy. In the middle of it was a reunion between Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and X-23, played by Dafne Keen, that helped honor the legacy of the acclaimed Logan one last time. Now that the dust has settled on the multiverse-hopping adventure, Keen has opened up about what it meant to reunite Logan and Laura again for the MCU, and she has some thoughts about the future of the X-Men. Speaking to Collider's Perri Nemiroff alongside her co-star Sophie Nélisse for their new film Whistle at the live Collider Ladies Night at San Diego Comic-Con, she joined in on the fancasting fun for the mutant team with an intriguing nomination for the role of Mystique.

Marvel Studios is quickly advancing with its MCU X-Men project, and the latest casting rumors suggest that three actresses are in the mix for the omega-level mutant Jean Grey. Jean Grey is a core character to the X-Men team, often depicted as being in a relationship with fellow X-Men member Scott Summers/Cyclops, and as one of the most powerful team members thanks to her connection to the cosmic Phoenix Force. Several notable stars have portrayed Jean Grey in past X-Men films, including Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, making the character's MCU casting one of the hottest in town.

A year before he became a pop culture icon as Doc Brown in Back to the Future, Christopher Lloyd also played the Klingon captain Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. The third Star Trek movie with the original series cast was a direct follow-up to Wrath of Khan, and was directed by Leonard Nimoy.
Lloyd played the Klingon commander who is in search of the Genesis planet and is a ruthless leader who does not take failure lightly. The actor mentioned that he had a lot of fun playing the part and had to come to set as early as 4 Am to put on the makeup for the role (via Variety).

Twenty-five years ago, the evolution of comic book movies leaped forward. On July 14, 2000, Marvel Comics' not-so-merry band of mutants, the X-Men, made their way from the comic pages to the big screen, changing the company's cinematic fortunes and making the box office safe for the team-based superhero movies that would follow years later.
It should be noted off the top that Blade ice-skated uphill so that X-Men could run downhill to franchise-launching success. Wesley Snipes' 1998 vampire movie brought the comic-book movie genre back from the brink of extinction courtesy of the mega-bomb that was 1997's Batman & Robin. Blade was also the first Marvel Comics-derived film that didn't fall into direct-to-video hell like failed versions of Captain America and The Punisher, and Roger Corman's never-released take on the Fantastic Four.
Still, X-Men's existence was far from guaranteed even after Blade pointed a way forward for Marvel.

The James Bond movie franchise is alive and well, and there’s a possibility that Sydney Sweeney will be the next Bond girl. There’s always a Bond girl, and in No Time to Die, Madeleine Swann, portrayed by Léa Seydoux, was the chosen one. Read on for more information.
Why Sydney For The Role?
On Saturday this weekend, The Sun US revealed that there’s a good chance for Sydney Sweeney to land the role. Bear in mind that these days, the Bond girl isn’t necessarily a distressed, helpless woman who needs saving. Moving with the times, strong actresses play the roles of antagonists, mistresses, and villains. Can anyone forget Famke Janssen (Xenia Onatopp), who killed men with her thighs?

Netflix is passing the Dutchie to Famke Janssen for its upcoming cannabis drama Amsterdam Empire. The new project finds Janssen’s character, Betty, building a new life and getting revenge after discovering her husband’s infidelity.
Speaking with Variety at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, Janssen said, “My character, Betty, is a former pop star from the 90s who had one hit called ‘Forever.’ Her husband owns the biggest weed empire. Famke Janssen gets a meaty role in upcoming weed-centered crime drama “Amsterdam Empire,” heading to Netflix later this year.

Betty has a score to settle, but Janssen says: “She’s not enraged the whole time. I wanted to make sure of that, because it could get a little tiresome. But I also thought: ‘Go and get it,’” she laughs.
“I wanted to challenge myself, even by doing a music video and learning to dance and sing.

Recently, Kevin Smith opened up about whether he had any major regrets in his 30-plus years making movies, and his answer was—expectedly—not making Superman Lives. While the DC Universe is littered with scrapped film and television projects, none are more infamous. The unmade film would have starred Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel, and one of the candidates to direct was Robert Rodriguez. Notably, the film suffered a lot of production setbacks, including multiple changes in directing and writing staff. This ultimately affected Smith himself when new project director Tim Burton chose Wesley Strick to replace him.
Nearly three decades later, Smith still speaks of Superman Lives as a great what-if. He explained: "If I could make anything that didn't happen, happen, I think it would be that." He then clarified that he felt this was largely "because [he] didn't have the pressure of directing the movie" himself.

The Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal saw Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), and Deadpool & Wolverine's Channing Tatum (Gambit) all board the movie.
Characters like Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Storm (Halle Berry), and Rogue (Anna Paquin) are all notable by their absence, as is Hugh Jackman's Wolverine (though we got a potentially positive update on that front yesterday). We expect to see a bigger X-Men team than the one above, perhaps with a few new Multiversal Variants added to the mix for good measure.
Back to those confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, and Cumming's Nightcrawler remains one of the most beloved characters from the X-Men franchise, despite only appearing in 2003's X2: X-Men United.

In the battle of super spy dominance, the two names at the top of the table (unless Jason Bourne turns up with a rolled-up newspaper) are James Bond and Ethan Hunt. 007 might have a few years on Tom Cruise's Impossible Mission Force member, but since the latter arrived on screens in 1996, the competition has always been there and might never stop, even after "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning." While the argument might rage on, though, there are a handful of fortunate souls who are lucky enough to give perhaps the best comparison possible, given that they've inhabited both of those worlds. Yes, over the eight "Mission: Impossible" movies and 27 Bond films, some actors have dared to get a taste of danger by dabbling in both their worlds, crossing paths with both Ethan Hunt and James Bond sometimes mere years apart.

A couple of months ago, the Marvel Studios social media accounts started live-streaming a video they labeled as an all-caps Announcement. The video showed a soundstage where, one by one, chairs reserved for actors were revealed, with a new chair coming into view every 10 minutes or so. As it turns out, this was a very long and slow way of revealing (a large chunk of) the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which is now in production and aiming for a December 18, 2026 release date (having moved back from its previously announced May release date). The names of twenty-seven cast members were shown that day, with Marvel teasing, “There’s always room for more…” And we have reason to expect there are a whole lot more, because a large number of characters we would expect to see in the movie were not in the mix that day. Not only that, but the movie...

Marvel Studios' recent Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal included a few surprising names, but the actors who weren't mentioned raised just as many questions.
If you've been keeping up with rumors relating to the 2026 MCU event film, you may have been anticipating the casts of Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps as well as a couple of X-Men characters (we had heard that both Kelsey Grammer and Sir Patrick Stewart were set to return after their respective appearances in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels), but we were not expecting quite so many mutants.
Joining Stewart and Grammer will be Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Tatum made his MCU debut in Deadpool and Wolverine, but Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were not announced as part of the Doomsday cast.

Earlier this week, we got a first look at what appeared to be a downed Sentinel on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. Now, we have a birds-eye view offering a clearer shot at the mutant-hunting robot's legs (in what's believed to be the X-Mansion's grounds).
We also have reason to believe that we'll see the remains of more than one Sentinel, as you can see below.
Unfortunately, the legs are still covered up, but the photographer who took these shots has confirmed that the footprints they've seen elsewhere on set match the Sentinel design from the comics.
Sentinels attacking the X-Men's home is par for the course in the comics, so this could be part of a major battle we'll see in the movie or the fallout from a previous battle. We also wouldn't discount the possibility of this being a Danger Room training exercise meant to show us what...

The MCU has reportedly found its new Jean Grey, following Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. According to the latest buzz, Daisy Edgar-Jones is being eyed by the Kevin Feige studio. Such a report before the release of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars seemingly confirms the Twisters actress’s MCU debut soon.
Daisy Edgar-Jones gained huge popularity after starring in the BBC limited series, Normal People. Following that, she also played prominent roles in Where the Crawdads Sing and Twisters. As the MCU is slowly going into the Mutant Era, Edgar-Jones will likely see another significant role in her career.

As exciting as it was to see Marvel Studios reveal the cast of Avengers: Doomsday at the end of March, even more intriguing for fans was who didn't get a mention.
There was no Hugh Jackman, Tom Holland, Ryan Reynolds, or Elizabeth Olsen (to name just a handful of absentees), prompting speculation about whether they're being kept under wraps or perhaps saved for Avengers: Secret Wars.
Comic Con Liverpool has announced that Captain Marvel star Brie Larson is the headline guest at its November show, leaving many to wonder whether the Oscar-winner will be in the UK at the time to shoot Avengers: Doomsday.
Adding further fuel to the fire is the fact that pretty much the entire Ahsoka cast attended last weekend's Comic Con Liverpool event, and they're all currently in the UK working on season 2.

The Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal saw Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), and Deadpool & Wolverine's Channing Tatum (Gambit) all board the movie.
Characters like Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Storm (Halle Berry), and Rogue (Anna Paquin) are all notable by their absence, as is Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. We anticipate seeing a bigger X-Men team than the one above, perhaps with a few new Multiversal Variants added to the mix for good measure.
Cumming's Nightcrawler remains one of the most beloved characters from the X-Men franchise, despite only appearing in 2003's X2: X-Men United.
The teleporter's attack on the White House is considered iconic, so the actor reprising the role in Avengers: Doomsday is incredibly exciting (we're sure the Russo Brothers will at least attempt to top that classic sequence).

Vince Vaughn just dropped an update on the future of his new Apple TV+ series, Bad Monkey. Vaughn’s new comedy debuted near the end of last summer to strong reviews, earning a 93% from critics and an 80% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it took Apple TV+ two months after the Season 1 finale to renew the series for Season 2. The show comes from writer/creator Bill Lawrence, who’s also known for his work on Scrubs and, more recently, Ted Lasso. During a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub to promote his new Netflix movie, Nonnas, Vaughn revealed when Bad Monkey Season 2 begins filming, and also how much of the second season has been outlined thus far:
"We will start filming this year. I think they have the outline for the first four episodes. I don't want to give away too much because we kind of left it in...

Marvel Studios delivered plenty of exciting surprises during the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal, including the return of some familiar faces from 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. There were some huge omissions, though, and even with production underway, it feels like this ensemble is far from complete.
While Kevin Feige has confirmed it wasn't the full cast, one of the most disappointing omissions was Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox.
Talking to Collider, the actor was asked about not getting a chair and replied, "It’s not there, is it? [Laughs] Listen, the way that information gets to us is the same way that it gets to everyone else normally. At least historically, that's been the case. Someone sent me the link. I looked for my name. It's not there. So, maybe one day [Laughs]."

During his appearance at the Time 100 Summit last month, Ryan Reynolds seemed to suggest that he'd already begun work on his next Deadpool adventure, and it looks like we may now know what that might be.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Deadpool & Wolverine star/writer/producer has been quietly developing a film that would see his fan-favorite Merc with a Mouth team-up with the X-Men.
He's still exploring ideas and has been writing a variety of treatments in his effort to crack the story for what would be an ensemble film that would feature at least three or four prominent X-Men characters. He would still appear as Deadpool, albeit in a supporting role rather than as the main lead.
According to their sources, Reynolds believes keeping his loud-mouthed hero adjacent to the spotlight could allow the X-Men characters to be used in more unique and unexpected ways, which is certainly an exciting prospect.

Avengers: Doomsday started shooting in the UK earlier this week, and the cast just assembled for a screening of Thunderbolts*.
Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu was the first to share a photo on social media, and fans were quick to point out that he's likely revealed Robert Downey Jr.'s look for his role as the McU's Victor Von Doom.
The actor—thankfully—isn't rocking Tony Stark's trademark goatee and instead has short grey hair and no beard whatsoever. Of course, if the Russo Brothers are doing it right, we either won't see Doctor Doom's face or, if we do, it will be hideously scarred.
However, if Doom wins the day, then he may heal his face and unmask in Avengers: Secret Wars. That would differ from the comics where, even as "God" on Battleworld, he was unable to fix his scars, with Mister Fantastic doing so when he put the Multiverse back together.

Avengers: Doomsday will be the ultimate crossover event for longtime Marvel fans, bringing back the original X-Men crew as well as other fan-favorites from a bygone era of the superhero genre. In addition to casting a bevy of X-Men actors, Doomsday will be getting some veteran superhero talent behind the camera. Fortunately, it seems that the next Avengers sequel will look like an X-Men film in more ways than one.
According to several reports, veteran cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel will reunite with the Russo Brothers on Avengers: Doomsday after working on Cherry in 2021. His previous credits also include X-Men: Days of Future Past, Drive, Da 6 Bloods, and many more. His wide-ranging resume also includes Bohemian Rhapsody, but we doubt there will be musicals in Doomsday. Fans assemble! The multiverse just got a whole lot more Evans-sive.
After previously watching Chris Evans appear in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, we all got the urge to see more of him in the MCU. But sadly, Evans’ Captain America had retired, and Johnny Storm died in Ryan Reynolds’ threequel. So that’s where all our hopes subsided.
However, recently, the legendary comic writer Chris Claremont casually spilled the superhero tea during a panel at the Huntsville Pop Culture Expo 2025. According to him, the upcoming Avengers movie is going full-on Marvel madness and bringing Chris Evans in multiple roles, including his appearance as Captain Hydra.
Chris Claremont dropped spoilers about Avengers: Doomsday casting
Oh yes, things got real. For everyone coming across Chris Evans’ casting rumor surrounding Avengers: Doomsday via the Og video, tweets, or our article—yes, we heard it as well. Chris Claremont just leaked half the MCU’s secret playbook.

As we know, members of 20th Century Fox's original X-Men team are set to appear in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday, and it sounds like they'll be ditching the black leather.

We recently reported on a rumor that scenes are currently being shot at the X-Mansion, which Richtman confirms. Whether the Xavier Institute is the location we see in the recent set video and photos featuring what is believed to be a crashed spaceship and some broken statues is not clear.

Metaphorical and physical ‘doom’ is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Robert Downey Jr. ditching his old Iron Man armor and taking on a very different role as Victor von Doom. While Doctor Doom was once known as a Fantastic Four villain, his many years of scheming against (and occasionally allying with) the Avengers makes him the perfect replacement for Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.

Channing Tatum has finally talked about his involvement inAvengers: Doomsday, but is he actually playing Gambit? After years of trying to get a Gambit solo film off the ground, Tatum finally realized his lifelong dream of playing the iconic X-Men character in Deadpool & Wolverine. Tatum's Gambit was a scene-stealer, and many were shocked but delighted to see Tatum's name on the Avengers: Doomsday cast list.
At Cinema Con, Tatum spoke to Extra about his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. Despite everyone assuming Tatum is playing Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday, Tatum did play coy with the fact that no character names were confirmed, only the actors involved. He says he might not be playing Gambit but a different character. However, he also doesn't deny he is playing Gambit. "Personally, all I was guaranteed was a chair.

Finally, more classic X-Men are officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The official Marvel Studios Instagram confirmed, “There’s always room for more,” in terms of others being added to the 27-strong Doomsday cast. More than just missing MCU mainstays like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, a host of the Fox-era X-Men could be suiting up in the shadows. After Deadpool & Wolverine finally put Hugh Jackman’s...
