Has long wanted to make a film about his grandfather's real life escape from a prisoner of war camp during WWII.

In an interview, Hugh admitted he was accidentally sent a script for Jerry Maguire. When he called his agent to ask why he had been sent such a good script compared to other movies he had done, his agent admitted it was intended to be sent to Tom Cruise.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's mother was Hugh's piano teacher when he was a child.

In 2001, he purchased an Andy Warhol painting of Elizabeth Taylor for just under $4 million. He later sold it in 2007 for $23.5 million.
