The "NCIS" franchise has said goodbye to some beloved shows in recent years. In 2023, "NCIS: Los Angeles" ended after 14 seasons and 322 episodes, which is a great run for any TV show. Unfortunately, "NCIS: Hawaii" didn't experience the same longevity, as it was sent to the chopping block after three seasons in 2024. What's more, it never got the chance to deliver an all-time great series finale as no one expected it to be canceled, so it bowed out with a frustrating cliffhanger. So, why did CBS decide to cancel the series?

As documented by Variety, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach revealed that "NCIS: Hawaii" was canceled for a variety of reasons, with factors such as the Hollywood SAG-AFTRA strike and a desire to freshen things up among them. Here's what she had to say:

"Everything came back [from the Hollywood strikes] really strong, but ultimately we have to look at the cohesiveness of the schedule flow.

Some cancellations always hurt more than others. That was certainly the case for the broadcast TV shows in 2024. We are still salty about some of those decisions.

We know that some TV shows have to come to an end. The writing is usually on the wall for some of them. The linear ratings are down, or the show just isn’t getting great reviews. However, this year, there were some cancellations that were completely unjustified. Or we lost great shows that just didn’t have the chance to find their audiences.

We’re taking a look back at 2024 and the TV cancellations that hurt the most. We’re not just sad; we’re salty. This is for broadcast only. There are some streaming cancellations that I absolutely hate!

Not Dead Yet

There are very few comedies on TV now. This year has seen a few hits on NBC, but other networks have struggled.

With its devastating cancelation after just three seasons, many NCIS: Hawai’i stories will never get the chance to finish. The conclusion of Vanessa Lachey’s island-based NCIS spinoff is far from what the NCIS: Hawai’i characters deserved. The show featured a diverse cast with warm, genuine personalities. Every character deserved a happy ending, but their storylines were cut short. To worsen the series’ end, CBS abruptly canceled the series. Thus, NCIS: Hawai’i ended with a massive cliffhanger involving the quasi-antagonist and friend to Jane Tennant, Julie White’s Maggie Shaw.

NCIS: Hawai’i ended with a cliffhanger involving Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey). Some stories ended as Sam Hanna (LL Cool J from the also canceled NCIS: Los Angeles) had his going-away party, and everyone had a chance to say goodbye as they toasted fallen agents.

However, after the party ended, Jane left and returned home, where she expected to see her daughter greet her.

When CBS canceled NCIS: Hawai’i, there was word that the announcement came too late to allow the show to have a conclusive finale. Instead, it ended with a minor cliffhanger that left the door open for the next season’s story. It will never happen, and it made a lot of fans mad.

Following three seasons on the air, NCIS: Hawai’i said goodbye to viewers following a heartbreaking and unexpected cancelation late last month.

The episode titled “Divided We Conquer” is the second-part conclusion of the finale following the April 29 episode “Spill the Tea.” In tonight’s episode, the team finds itself in one of the most dangerous situations of the series when they are exposed to deadly bioweapons by a terrorist group.

Things were very touch and go for many including Sam (LL Cool J) who, though he was exposed to just a tiny bit of the virus, came very close to meeting his maker. A last-minute Hail Mary saved the day and he survived, though he was definitely left worse for wear while recovering.

At the end of last week’s episode, the Compound X bioweapon was in the hands of the nefarious Dr. Annalise Cruz (Rachel Mars), the late Alexi Volkoff’s assistant. She also aimed to take out the NCIS Elite team, to the horror of Sam Hanna (LL Cool J).

The episode opens with Sam risking exposing himself to Compound X in order to save his team — a heroic but potentially fatal move that his teammates stop him from doing.

From there, Jesse Boone (Noah Mills) and Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) work to find Cruz, also known as Tala Flores, and save the day. Sam is also chasing her but coughing a lot, eventually falling and confirming mild Compound X exposure.

On September 20, 2023, “American Horror Story: Delicate” premiered on FX, receiving predominantly positive reviews from critics and an 86% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The 12th cycle of the franchise is based on Danielle Valentine‘s “Delicate Condition,” and follows an actress desiring to become pregnant who is convinced that there are forces conspiring against her.
