Platino Awards Crown ‘Argentina, 1985,’ ‘News of a Kidnapping’ – and Amazon Studios, Prime Video
Image
Santiago Mitre’s “Argentina, 1985” and “News of a Kidnapping,” created by Andrés Wood and Rodrigo García, swept the top prizes for best picture on Saturday night at the 2023 Platino Awards, in a sign of how the global streamers – here Amazon Studios and Prime Video – have lured top-of-their-class talent in Latin America.

One highlight of the ceremony, dedicated to films and TV shows in the Spanish-speaking world, was Benicio del Toro’s acceptance speech of a honorary Platino in which he reflected on being typecast for many years in Hollywood as a Latino actor.

“If I had to play stereotypes, I tried to find the character’s humanity, a sense of complicity, so that audiences felt what my character felt and whilst they’re watching, don’t forget who I am and where I come from.,” he said. “What’s important is to share more than be divided,” he added.

What Happened in ‘Jack Ryan’ Season 2? Get Briefed Before the Third Season
Tom Clancy
Ryanverse fans, rejoice. The Prime Video action thriller Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, which stars John Krasinski as the titular CIA operative, is finally back for a third season, more than three years after Season 2 started streaming. Even Jack would have forgotten some plot details in a hiatus that long, so we’re here to offer a refresher. As Season 2 starts, Jack has his eye on Venezuela, where Gloria Bonalde (Cristina Umaña) is running for president against incumbent Nicolás Reyes (Jordi Mollà). Jack suspects Russia is shipping weapons to Venezuela, but when he heads there on a diplomatic mission, Reyes denies the surreptitious dealings. And while he’s there, Jack reconnects with his old boss Jim Greer (Wendell Pierce), who has also been tracking the shipping containers, and spends a night with a woman, later revealed to be Harriet Baumann (Noomi Rapace), an agent with Germany’s Bundesnachrichtendienst (Bnd) intelligence service.

Jack Ryan Season 2 Ending Explained
Andrew Husband Nov 2, 2019

Jack Ryan season 2 ends with few surprises, though it does lay the groundwork for some more recognizable stories.

Obviously, this article contains majors spoilers for Jack Ryan season 2.

The second season of Amazon’s Jack Ryan series with John Krasinski, which dropped a day early on Halloween, manages to address many of the viable complaints that critics levied at its first season -- while also injecting more emotional developments into an otherwise straight and narrow storyline. Krasinski’s take on Tom Clancy’s iconic character is a little bit more human this time around. Meanwhile, the latest plot that he and ex-boss James Greer (Wendell Pierce) find themselves unraveling is a bit more nuanced than season one’s global terrorist extravaganza.

Even so, Jack Ryan’s latest adventure in a dictatorial Venezuela ends pretty much the way general audiences will expect. President Nicolás Reyes (Jordi Mollà) loses...

Wagner Moura in Narcos (2015)
‘Narcos’ Review: Season 2 Finds Its Path To the Future — And Its Real Star
Wagner Moura in Narcos (2015)
Here’s a theory: For any TV creators who get more than a season to prove themselves, it’s Season 2 where they really figure out what kind of show they’re making. And with “Narcos,” we see some pretty clear proof of that.

Season 1 of Netflix’s fact-based drama — about how cocaine created criminal empires in Colombia and beyond — was jam-packed with over 15 years of drug cartel history, and the result, unfortunately, was not consistently engaging for anyone other than the most passionate fans of the subject matter. But from the first moments of Season 2, the Netflix series shows new focus. Thanks to a much narrower scope — the 18-month hunt for Pablo Escobar, following his escape from La Catedral prison — characters are allowed to breathe more. The power struggles have real weight. And the potential for seasons to come becomes clear.
