Scottish by birth, his family moved to southern England when he was just 3 months old. He was raised in Hampshire.

As Jeff Stewart won the Best Actor Award at the Manhattan Film Festival, 2011, for his main role, in "Under Jakob's Ladder", he revealed: "When they said, the best actor goes to Jeff Stewart, a cold shiver went from the tips of my toes to the top of my head and to the end of my fingers" (From "The Sun", UK, 12th August 2011, 11:00 pm).

Hobbies include gardening and cycling.

Appeared in local TV news in July 2025 when he assisted police in a real life arrest apprehending a thief who was running from a shop he had just robbed in Southampton.
