Was going to star in the third installment of the Friday the 13th series reprising her role as "Ginny" from Sexta-Feira 13 - Parte 2 (1981) but her agent at the time told her not to sign on as she was getting "bigger and better roles" but has since said; that she wishes that she had accepted the opportunity to reprise her role in part 3.

Her character on Sexta-Feira 13 - Parte 2 (1981) (Ginny) was supposed to be killed by Jason, but the producers later decided during filming that they needed to have someone survive.

Serves as a marriage and family therapist intern at InBalance in the Santa Monica Mountains. She also has a private practice in Calabasas, specializing in adolescent and mid-life transitions.

She returned to Kent, CT to film Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) which was the same town where she attended high school. She said it was awkward returning to her hometown, as she felt she hadn't left on good terms.

When she first moved to New York to pursue a career in modeling, she lived in a one-bedroom apartment on 63rd and Lexington with 5 other girls, where she slept on a couch. She was surprised when she became a successful model, because she was a tomboy who knew nothing about makeup or how dress like a girl was expected to dress.

She auditioned for Lethal Weapon 3 and had to kiss Mel Gibson during the screen test. She recalls the process felt "weird". Rene Russo eventually won the role.

She has one older brother and two younger brothers. She has said being the only girl in the family was difficult and that wearing a dress around her siblings was "nerve-wracking". She described her family as dysfunctional and growing up she felt like "one of the last surviving rats on a sinking ship.".

She dropped out of Kent School because her parents couldn't afford a private school after their divorce. She moved to Florida to live with her father and his girlfriend, where she briefly attended a local public high school, which she described as "stupid". She eventually completed her GED through correspondence.

Her favorite films include Um Sonho de Liberdade (1994), Encontros e Desencontros (2003), Meninas de Ninguém (1996) and O Exorcista (1973).

She auditioned for the TV series Northern Exposure, but the role went to Janine Turner. She cites this disappointment as one of the reasons she eventually decided to quit acting.

She was a relatively popular athlete in school and played lacrosse. She described herself as a tomboy.

She attributes her success as a young model to her resemblance to Nancy Donahue and Patti Hansen, who both had lucrative careers at the time.

She credits Walk Like a Man (1987) as being the most run on-set experience she's ever had, whereas Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) was the most arduous.

She once attended a summer theatre program at the Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania, but found it intimidating because she couldn't sing or dance.

One of her first roles was as "Roo" in a production of A.A. Milne's "The House at Pooh Corner", co-starring alongside an eight-year-old Nelson Aspen ("Piglet").

In January 2004 appeared at the Chiller Theater Convention in New Jersey, alongside her Sexta-Feira 13 - Parte 2 (1981) co-star Betsy Palmer.

Has three brothers and no sisters.

Both she and her The Powers of Matthew Star (1982) co-star, Peter Barton, have appeared in a sequel to Sexta-Feira 13 (1980). Steel starred as Ginny in Sexta-Feira 13 - Parte 2 (1981), while Barton appeared as Doug in Sexta-Feira 13 - Parte 4: O Capítulo Final (1984).

She guest starred in two unrelated television series featuring a regular character named Sam Beckett: China Beach (1988) and Contra Tempos (1989).

As of 2009, was studying at a university.
