When Mike White landed in Thailand to film the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus, he was looking to create a symphony that could rival the sounds of Hawaii and Sicily.

The third season stars Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Lalisa Manobal, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola, Lek Patravadi, Parker Posey, Natasha Rothwell, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tayme Thapthimthong, Aimee Lou Wood, Scott Glenn, Charlotte Le Bon and Sam Rockwell.

“[The White Lotus] works best when it’s sort of like an orchestra. You want different voices and a whole variety. I also feel like that when it comes to casting, it’s fun to have actors who have different processes and different vibes. If you’re a connoisseur of taste, you want a little taste of this and a little taste of that,” White said, speaking during the Deadline Contenders at HBO Max event.

It’s clear Emmy voters remain fans of the HBO drama, which saw another impressive showing in this year’s nominations. Eight of the show's stars received nominations as did creator Mike White.

Best Drama Series: Nominated

The HBO series, which swept 10 Emmys in its first season and picked up five more in Season 2, has once again been nominated for Best Drama Series. At the time of the nominations, it was ranked third on Gold Derby’s odds list, behind Severance and The Pitt. It will go up against Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance and Slow Horses.

Best Drama Supporting Actor: Nominated

The show had nine contenders in the supporting actor category, but only three earned nominations: Walton Goggins as Rick, Jason Isaacs as Timothy Ratliff, and Sam Rockwell as Frank. These three consistently ranked among Gold Derby’s top five contenders, with Goggins leading the pack.

The White Lotus cast may have better luck at the Emmys in Los Angeles than their on-screen counterparts did during their ill-fated Thai vacation. While tragedy shadowed the fictional guests at the resort, the series’ stellar Emmy track record hints at a much brighter fate this awards season.

If history is any indicator, The White Lotus is poised for another big night. The show’s first season swept 10 Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Season 2 followed suit with five wins, among them Jennifer Coolidge’s win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. In her now-iconic acceptance speech, Coolidge thanked creator Mike White, saying:

“Mike White, you have given me hope and changed my life in a million different ways. My neighbors are speaking to me. I mean it. I was never invited to one party on my hill and now everyone’s inviting me.”

Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan could soon be adding an Emmy to his ever-growing awards mantel.

Gold Derby has learned that HBO will submit The White Lotus Season 3 in 39 categories at the 2025 Emmys, including for Best Drama Series and 21 of its cast members.

Quan had an uncredited voice role as Kenny Nguyen in one episode of Mike White's buzzy vacation series. Kenny is the person who calls up Jason Isaacs' Timothy Ratliff while he was vacationing with his family in Thailand to discuss the financial crimes they committed together. The Everything Everywhere All at Once star is being submitted in Best Character Voice-Over Performance, which recognizes off-screen acting talent.

The White Lotus, created by Mike White, is the hottest show in the world right now! The third season of the hit HBO series just came to an end in April 2025, four years after the series premiered in the summer of 2021.

The White Lotus is already coming back for season 4, and probably more seasons, honestly. There doesn't seem to be anything stopping this show from becoming an all-time great drama-comedy series.

To celebrate the greatness of this show, I ranked all three seasons of The White Lotus so far. Honestly, there is no "worst" season of this show. They are all good, but there's definitely one show that stands apart from the rest.

It’s time to check out from another season of The White Lotus, and before the final credits rolled on the latest edition of Mike White’s decadent dark comedy anthology, the shadow of death loomed large in Thailand. While season 1 saw the tragic demise of Murray Bartlett’s Armond and season 2 was a veritable bloodbath that had us waving goodbye to Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid and ‘the gays,’ the bodies were again piled high in season 3.

As with any season of The White Lotus, it was anyone’s guess who’d be leaving in a body bag. I'm just thankful that Parker Posey’s Victoria Ratliff will live to fight another day (she has to be the new Coolidge for season 4). Okay, let’s just admit it, The White Lotus could drop a season set inside a haunted porta-potty, and we’d still be seated with popcorn. The third season of The White Lotus ended on Sunday night with a record 6.2 million viewers watching the finale live on HBO and Max. (That's a 51 percent jump over the previous season's finale.) During and after the 90-minute episode, the Gold Derby forums were abuzz with comments good and bad, with people giving a specific shout-out to one actor who they thought got an Emmy boost. They also reacted to some of the show's various twists, and sounded off about the Season 4 location rumors.

Following the finale, Carrie Coon skyrocketed up Gold Derby's Emmy chart for Best Drama Supporting Actress. Her character, Laurie, delivered an emotional monologue in which she declared, "I have no belief system," which instantly went viral on social media. As a result, Allison Janney (The Diplomat) dropped to second place in our rankings, with The White Lotus costar Parker Posey as Victoria remaining in third.

Tons of viewers, a total of 6.2 million to be exact, have tuned in to the explosive series finale of the third season, according to Variety. The recent record comes after Episode 7 garnered 4.8 million viewers, a 30% increase on Episode 6’s impressive 4.2 million views.

The dark comedy drama has been breaking records since it returned to HBO for a third season on February 16. The supersized Season 3 finale, the anthology series’ longest runtime yet, saw a 51% increase from the record brought by the second season’s finale and a 158% increase from the Season 3 premiere, per Variety. At long last, Rick Hatchett found the man who ruined his life … then went ahead and ruined it some more.

The final episode of The White Lotus season three ended with a fateful bang for Rick (Walton Goggins) and girlfriend Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), two of three series regulars who were gunned down in the climax of creator Mike White’s latest work. The third regular, of course, is the man Rick was hunting all season long: Jim Hollinger, the hotelier played by the iconic Scott Glenn. After one final fateful conversation, Rick grabbed Jim’s own firearm and shot the man in cold blood, only to learn a startling truth: Jim didn’t kill Rick’s father … Jim was Rick’s father.

There’s little time for the revelation to sink in before the bullets start flying, catching Chelsea in the crossfire and ultimately striking Rick down as well.

The highly anticipated final episode of The White Lotus season 3 finally answered the burning questions surrounding the Thailand vacationers. Out of all of the characters on the third season of "The White Lotus," Mike White's anthology series that always takes place in a different exotic locale, Walton Goggins' Rick Hatchett might have been the most troubled one from the outset ... which is saying something. We all knew people were going to die in season 3 of "The White Lotus," Mike White's international anthology series that spent its third outing in Thailand. “The White Lotus” creator Mike White equated the resolution of the tense Season 3 finale mystery to a “classic Greek tragedy.”

Episode 8, titled “Amor Fati,” caught up to the tragic shooting at the White Lotus Thailand. Like any fans theorized, Rick (Walton Goggins) and Chelsea (Aime Lou Wood) ended up as two of the victims of the shooting — after Rick started the bloodbath when he shot and killed Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn). Before his death, however, Rick learned from Sritala (Lek Patravadi) that Jim was actually his real father all along.

Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) ended up pulling the trigger on Rick, as he tried to walk away from the scene with Chelsea’s body, who had been shot and killed in the crossfires as he tried to kill off Jim’s bodyguards.

“The White Lotus” Season 3 finale was a bloodbath that ended up with two dead and one red herring.

The finale brought all the stories crashing back together for the mysterious shootout we briefly heard playing out back in the premiere. The biggest questions were who was firing the gun, who was caught in the crossfire, and who was the body Zion (Nicholas Duvernay) found floating in the river — and whether it was even connected to the shooting or not.

All season long it has been anyone’s guess who would end up dead. Tim (Jason Isaacs) has been having suicidal fantasies for half the episodes, Rick (Walton Goggins) has been on a revenge-fueled manhunt for the person responsible for his father’s death, and Gaitok seemed to have finally figured out who robbed the resort.

Harrelson, who was in the running to play either Walton Goggins’ Rick or Sam Rockwell’s Frank, was speculated to have turned down the roles because of producer David Bernad’s policy that all “White Lotus” cast members get paid the same. However, in a statement released to The Daily Beast, Harrelson revealed that he passed on “The White Lotus” because of his own family vacation.

“I was set to do ‘White Lotus’ and very excited. Unfortunately, their production schedule shifted, and conflicted with a pre-planned family vacation, forcing me to make an extremely hard decision,” he said. “Things must be meant to be though, because I couldn’t have done as fantastic a job as Sam, who is killing it.”

The most crucial pieces of the puzzle have started to fall into place in "The White Lotus" season 3. A lot is going on in Thailand's White Lotus wellness resort, where key players are currently at the cusp of their arcs before the season's bloody, climactic finale. As we're already aware that things are going to end with multiple gunshots and at least one dead body, that's all the more reason to play close attention to Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong), who managed to retrieve his officially mandated gun in the previous episode.

I know what you're thinking: Gaitok isn't the kind to shoot someone, let alone kill them, as he inherently lacks the instinct to be violent (even in self-defense). However, episode 7 casts some doubt on this assured belief, as we see Mook repeatedly egg him on to toughen up and ultimately expressing disappointment in his non-violent stance.

One would think that the penultimate episode of a season of "The White Lotus" would push us into the deep end. Surprisingly, season 3's seventh episode, titled "Killer Instincts," chooses to simmer in the tension while laying the groundwork for a messy, climactic finale. As seen in the season premiere, gunshots eventually go off inside The White Lotus' wellness resort in Thailand, closely followed by an out-of-focus shot of a dead body floating in the water. This ominous setup, paired with the possible advent of a tsunami, has made it clear the season finale might feature one or more casualties. There's good reason to genuinely fear for the lives of the season's many characters, as not everybody is morally reprehensible or rotten to the core.

There is something heavy hanging over “Killer Instincts,” a thick, unshakable dread that makes every scene feel just one small step away from toppling over the edge of a cliff. Creator Mike White has adopted such a slow-burn approach to all of this season’s threads that resolution is starting to feel just around the corner, which is what makes “Killer Instincts” such a painful hour of television. Once again, White pushed “The White Lotus” forward without delivering the cathartic explosion of drama viewers long for. The result is an agonizing yet mesmerizing experience.

It may have taken almost his entire vacation, but Rick Hatchett finally relaxed during Sunday’s episode of The White Lotus. For Walton Goggins, the wait was considerably longer. The apparent culmination of his antihero’s journey wasn’t filmed until almost the very end of the Thailand shoot, and the relief on his face at the end of the episode is as much his own as it is Rick’s.

“It took me six months and seven hours of this experience to smile, to really smile,” Goggins tells The Hollywood Reporter of the penultimate episode of season three. “It’s not joy, but there’s contentment or peace for a moment. Other actors would’ve arrived at that in very different ways and lived their life.”

Goggins has not been shy about how difficult the White Lotus shoot was for him.

The penultimate episode is dark with various threats of violence from Walton Goggins’ considering ending the man who killed his father to Jason Isaacs’ Timothy Ratliff continuing to fantasize about killing himself, his wife and his son and Tayme Thapthimthong’s Gaitok figuring out who was behind the armed robbery at the hotel, while attending a Muay Thai boxing match with his crush, Lalisa Manobal’s Mook.

The White Lotus hit another viewership milestone with its latest episode, which proved to be quite a buzzy one.

The sixth episode of Season 3 drew 4.2M U.S. cross-platform viewers, eking out a win over the Season 2 finale, which previously held the series’ audience record with 4.1M.

It appears this season is on track to be the biggest one yet, as HBO says that episodes are pacing more than 5M viewers ahead of last season. Season 2 ultimately averaged around 15.5M U.S. viewers per episode.

On a global scale, HBO says that each Season 3 episode has hit a viewing high, though the company didn’t provide any numbers for viewership outside the U.S.

As mentioned, Sunday’s episode generated quite a bit of conversation on social media as well. The hashtag for the show was in the Top 10 trending topics on X for 10 consecutive hours in the U.S.

Can somebody please give Walton Goggin an award for acting almost entirely with his eyes? He did it on last week's episode of "The White Lotus," when his depressed maybe-hitman Rick sat through a stunningly unexpected monologue from an old buddy played by Sam Rockwell. In addition to finding inspiration in “some part of Rachel Zoe, like that world,” Leslie Bibb revealed that she also consumed the Real Housewives franchise while playing Texas housewife Kate Bohr in Mike White‘s anthology series.

“I was watching The Real Housewives always before scenes,” she said on Watch What Happens Live.

“Sometimes I’d just watch it and I just see what seeps in. That sounds crazy. And then I don’t even know what’s permeating.”

While speaking with Forbes recently, the actress noted she’s keeping up with the new season that’s taking place in Thailand and she’s “envious as hell.”

As Jason Isaacs joined the new cast of HBO‘s The White Lotus, he turned to a specific Bravolebrity for some inspiration.

The Golden Globe nominee said he has “the worst American accent an English person has ever done” on Season 3 of the Mike White-created series, which is set at the titular wellness resort in Thailand.

“I can live with it, because many people from North Carolina are going, ‘That sounds exactly like my dad,'” said Isaacs on GMA3.

“It came out on the internet that Mike [White] had asked us to watch Southern Charm, a great reality show, and somebody in it, people from Southern Charm went, ‘He’s clearly doing Thomas Ravenel,'” he added. “And Thomas, I am doing you, mostly, but not for two vowels, which are completely English.”

Isaacs plays patriarch Timothy Ratliff, who takes his wife Victoria (Parker Posey) and kids on a family vacation to the fictional hotel while he’s under federal investigation back home in the US.

Nivola, who plays son Lochlan, previously noted that White also gave him the reality TV homework, explaining to People that Isaacs “kind of modeled his whole accent and character” off the Bravo series that is currently in its 10th season.

Meanwhile, he noted that his onscreen sister Hook, who plays Piper, wasn’t given homework as she “had it down,” given her southern upbringing.

“I’m from Alabama,” said Hook. “I found out through you guys. I was like, ‘He didn’t tell me to watch Southern Charm! I’m feeling left out.'”

Although Maria Shriver remained blissfully ignorant of her son Patrick Schwarzenegger‘s Nsfw debut on The White Lotus, not everyone in the family is so modest.

Patrick’s actor brother-in-law Chris Pratt, who is married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, recently commented on the HBO star’s nude scene in the Season 3 premiere, as well as his performance in the Thailand-set installment.

“Man, I know where my eyes went. I’m not blood-related, but I was looking at that dick, bro,” he joked to E! News. “No, he looks amazing. Obviously, he’s a physical specimen, but also he’s a really solid actor, because the character he’s playing is completely different than who he is.”

Pratt added, “He created a character. And it feels natural and good. I’ve been telling everybody for years, I’ve been telling him as well, I really think we’re entering a decade of Patrick.

SeriesFest is set to celebrate the work of The White Lotus costume designer Alex Bovaird.

The event, which runs April 29 to May 4 in Denver, Colorado, will celebrate Bovaird’s work on the hit HBO drama series ahead of its annual shindig.

It will hand Bovaird the Excellence in Costume Design Award, followed by a special runway presentation of looks inspired by The White Lotus on April 3.

Bovaird received two Emmy nominations for her work on the first two seasons of The White Lotus.

Per the company, 3.4M U.S. cross-platform viewers tuned in for the second episode on Sunday night, which marks a 40% increase over the premiere episode’s 2.4M.

Speaking of the premiere, it has now amassed 10.2M viewers in the U.S., up 92% from the Season 2 premiere episode’s audience in the first week of availability. In terms of same-day viewers, the second episode of Season 3 is also already outperforming the second episode of Season 2, boding well for the remainder of the season.

There’s great drama to be found in irony, and “The White Lotus” knows this better than most shows.
