Wrote in his high school yearbook that his dream was one day to work for Mel Brooks.

Alan Spencer is developing a reinvention of "Sledge Hammer!" inspired by current events that mirror the original character's satirical point of view.

As a teenager, sneaked onto the set of O Jovem Frankenstein (1974) and subsequently befriended Marty Feldman. Over a decade later, Spencer was tapped by his hero Mel Brooks to co-create a short-lived TV series.

Was a friend of legendary offbeat comedian Andy Kaufman, who invited Spencer over to his house on one occasion and subjected him to a 48-hour marathon of The People's Court (1981) episodes Kaufman had recorded.

One of the youngest members ever to join the Writer's Guild of America.
