- Was friends with Sean Connery, who convinced him to take the part of Kronsteen in Moscou Contra 007 (1963), Sheybal's first international film. The part brought him to the attention of other producers and launched his long career of playing villains in international productions.
- Was chosen by director Terence Young, for his part as Kronsteen in the James Bond film Moscou Contra 007 (1963), because of his special voice.
- Provided the uncredited voice of Herbert Von Krolock (played onscreen by Iain Quarrier) in A Dança dos Vampiros (1967).
- Fought in the Polish resistance during World War II and was subsequently sent by the Nazis to a concentration camp. He escaped twice.
- Due to his iconic character roles in both Moscou Contra 007 (1963) and Smiley's People (1982), he is one of only two actors to play significant characters in the best video realizations involving the two most popular - and highly contrasted - fictional spies: James Bond and George Smiley. Kurt Jurgens played the General in Smiley's people as well as Karl Stromberg in The Spy who Loved me.
- I'd rather not watch myself on the screen because I get angry and ask, "Why did I do that?"
