- Lied about his age, and his birthplace, to get the role of "Bo" on Os Gatões (1979). The producers were looking for somebody in his mid-twenties, from Georgia; Schneider was 18, and from New York.
- According to a Season 1 commentary of Smallville: As Aventuras do Superboy (2001), John was approached by some kids who said, "Hey, you're Jonathan Kent!" To his relief, it was the first time that he was recognized as someone else other than "Bo" from Os Gatões (1979).
- Has restored many General Lee look-alike Dodge Chargers.
- Co-founder, with Marie Osmond, of the Children's Miracle Network charity organization in 1983. The organization helps children by raising funds for children's hospitals around the United States.
- Races cars every May in the Silver State Classic Challenge held in Ely, Nevada. He races and is driver of a model of the General Lee with fellow actor friend, Jim Caviezel, who is the navigator.

Once, he had himself chained up and tossed into his family's swimming pool, with the intention of re-creating Harry Houdini's legendary escape act. - His former Os Gatões (1979) costar and acting mentor, James Best, passed away in 2015...just 2 days before Schneider's own 55th birthday. Schneider, who had counted Best among his dearest friends, served as a pallbearer at the funeral.
- John Schneider disliked Kevin Costner's portrayal of Jonathan Kent in O Homem de Aço (2013) and argued that he should have played that role himself.
- In 2010, he was reunited with former Os Gatões (1979) co-star, James Best, on CMT Cribs (2009), that featured George Jones. Two years later in 2012, he would later join Best, a second time, to co-star with him in Return of the Killer Shrews (2012), a movie his acting mentor did, years earlier.
- Credits onscreen-nemesis James Best with much of his success, both as an actor and as a country/western singer. They met when Schneider was 18, and remained close confidantes for three-and-a-half decades.
- His very brief stage work (both on- and off-Broadway) includes "Oklahoma!" and "Chicago".
- On November 12, 2004, John was an honoree at the 7th Annual Silver Spur Awards show by the Reel Cowboys, an organization dedicated to the western heritage. The late Howard Keel was also honored.
