It’s been more than 40 years since This Is Spinal Tap hit theaters, much to the confusion of the American moviegoing public. And now we’re finally getting a theatrical sequel to the classic mockumentary: Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

While the movie hasn’t been released yet, we do know that it includes a scene in which Sir Elton John joins the band onstage for a performance of their rock ballad “Stonehenge,” along with a prop that’s far larger than they had back in ‘84.

But that may not be the only time that the sequel references the ancient English monument.

Alex Gibney’s anticipated Elon Musk documentary will be released theatrically in the U.S. by Bleecker Street.

“Musk” is an incisive look behind the legend of Elon Musk. Gibney has been continuously expanding the film’s scope to unveil a rich portrait, even as history unfolds in real-time. Bleecker Street will roll out “Musk” in theaters before its HBO Max debut. HBO Documentary Films pre-bought North American streaming and TV rights to the project, while Universal Pictures Content Group has acquired international rights.

Spinal Tap is back! After a 15-year hiatus, David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls are drawn back together for one last concert. Documentary filmmaker Marty Dibergi returns to explore what the band members have been up to and immortalise the concert reunion.

In the clip, we see filmmaker Marty Dibergi catch people up with what’s happened to Spinal Tap since his first film, This Is Spinal Tap. We then see the central Tap trio of Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) all looking their age and leading rather sedentary lives, in stark comparison to their past lives as stadium rock gods. The trailer then shows us efforts by the band to reunite for one last hurrah, including their efforts to recruit a drummer suicidal enough to play the gig, their merchandising efforts and whether one (or two) of them dying on stage would help boost publicity for the gig and cement their legacy.

All the way back in 1984, the world was introduced to the rock sensation known as Spinal Tap. As fictional documentarian Marty Di Bergi, real-life filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner toured around the country with the fake British rock band comprised of David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls, as well as a revolving door of drummers who kept encountering unfortunate circumstances, forcing them to leave the band. Sure, this is a mockumentary, but as one of the first films of its kind, the comedy managed to trick a lot of people into thinking that Spinal Tap was a real band.

The first trailer from the long-awaited sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, has arrived, offering a preview of the star-studded guests who join legendary mock-rockers Spinal Tap in the movie. Unfortunately, the band is still searching for a drummer. Watch the full clip below.

Opening 41 years after the original mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap, the trailer begins with director Marty Di Bergi (Rob Reiner) taking us back to highlights from the first film, including the notorious “These go to 11” amplifier scene with Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest). A clip of the band performing “Big Bottom” cuts to Di Bergi talking to Paul McCartney in the present day, who refers to a song lyric about “pink torpedo” as “literature, really.”

Bleecker Street has released the first trailer for its music mockumentary sequel, “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.”

Forty-one years in the making, “The End Continues” is the follow-up to the 1984 classic comedy, “This Is Spinal Tap.” In the original film, director Rob Reiner — playing a fictional version of himself — follows the fictional British metal band across its North American tour. Though the film is scripted, it follows the visual language and conventions of the era’s iconic music documentaries like Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains the Same” and The Band’s “The Last Waltz,” satirizing the dramatic, eccentric and wild behaviors of rock-and-roll musicians.

We now have our first look at the upcoming sequel to the beloved rock mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap. Bleecker Street has just unveiled the images to Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which has Rob Reiner returning as director and documentarian, along with Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer returning as Spinal Tap. The film is also written by the four stars. Rob Reiner, Michele Reiner and Matthew George are the credited producers on the film. Spinal Tap II: The End Continues will try to not get lost on its way to theaters on September 12.

The trailer is due to premiere at Comic-Con tomorrow and will be available online not long after, so stay tuned!

It’s been more than four decades since the original, groundbreaking mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap hit screens. Now fans are getting their first glimpse of Rob Reiner’s anticipated sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

Forty-one years after their comedic debut, estranged bandmates David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) are forced to reunite for what promises to be one final, epic concert. The sequel also marks the return of documentarian Marty Dibergi (Reiner), who once again attempts to capture the metal gods as they confront their own mortality and the ever-present fear that their 12th drummer might just join the ranks of their predecessors in The Great Beyond.

This September marks the arrival of the long-awaited sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. Ahead of its release, a trio of first-look photos has been revealed.

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues stars original cast members Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer reprising their iconic roles as Spinal Tap band members Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Small. The sequel finds the “now estranged bandmates” are “forced to reunite for one final concert.”

Rob Reiner also reprises his role as documentarian Martin “Marty” Dibergi (in addition to serving as the actual film’s director). Rounding out the sequel’s cast are all-star cameos from music legends Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, plus Paul Shaffer, Fran Drescher, Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman, and Chris Addison.

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues will be released in theaters nationwide on September 12th.

While special early viewers of the new Naked Gun are raving that it stays true to the originals, it optimistically looks the same for Spinal Tap II. Rob Reiner said that every piece came together with ease once things got moving, “The fun thing about it is we’ve known each other for so many years, and you just fall right back into it. You know, the whole film is improvised. The dialogue is all improvised. And what Chris Guest calls “schnadling” — we schnadle with each other, you know? It’s just fun. Putting together this movie is like putting together a puzzle with no picture on the box. We’ve got the contours of it, because we have a ten-page outline. But we’ll have a scene that lasts 15 or 20 minutes, that winds up being a minute in the movie. You find the best bits of everything, and you cut them together.

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues writer-director Rob Reiner may be amazed by the love that Paul McCartney and Elton John still have for performing, as both legendary musicians make cameos in the forthcoming sequel movie.

The follow-up to the 1984 cult classic This Is Spinal Tap hits theaters Sept. 12 from Bleecker Street. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and Reiner star in the comedy about a heavy metal band reuniting for one last show.

During an interview with AARP Movies for Grownups, Reiner was asked whether Spinal Tap’s final concert featuring appearances from McCartney and John is intended as a statement about reinvention.

“It basically says: ‘No matter how old you are, if you can still do it and still enjoy doing it, then do it,'” Reiner replied. “I asked Paul McCartney about this. I said, ‘There’s you, Mick Jagger, Elton John, and you still like to perform.

David Kaff, the musician and actor best known for his portrayal of good-humored keyboardist Viv Savage in the 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, passed away in his sleep on July 11. He was 79 years old. News of his passing was shared by his band, Mutual of Alameda's Wild Kingdom, who remembered Kaff as someone who "always had a kind word and a quick wit that would slay you where you stand. Then he'd make you smile doing it!"

Per Deadline, the limited re-release, featuring a restored and remastered version of This Is Spinal Tap, is pulling in $931.7k from 1,015 locations for Saturday and Sunday. This puts the film in the No. 10 spot at the domestic box office. With another $138k expected from its Monday date, the film will pull in $1.069 million over the course of the three-day special event. Because of the fan demand, additional dates have been added by Bleecker Street and Fathom Events for July 8, 9, and 10.

This Is Spinal Tap director Rob Reiner has revealed how one iconic heavy metal band was incensed at the classic comedy movie, although Reiner quickly brushed their criticism aside. Speaking to Screen Rant to promote This is Spinal Tap's 41st anniversary re-release, Reiner explained that the movie draws from plenty of real-life stories about famous bands.
