RENÉ RIVERA

The King of The Desert is the story of a young Mexican-American boy living in San Antonio, Texas. Facing family dysfunction, alcoholism, drug addiction, violence, racism, and isolation, he escapes with optimism, imagination, and with the loyal support of his mentally challenged, neighborhood friend, Conrao, who gives the boy a glimpse into his spiritual portal of just how meaningful his life can really be. With hard obstacles in his way, he eventually is catapulted to being accepted to The Juilliard School in New York City. After graduating, he begins a career in theater, film, and television, only to eventually repeat the same destructive pattern, and behavior that haunted him, and his family, as a child. He desperately searches again for truth and purpose, not knowing what, where, when, who, and if, he will ever find it... Set in 1967, to present day. Staged play directed by: Sal Romeo. He was cast in the Broadway production of Salome, by Oscar Wilde, where Al Pacino played Herod. Rene went on to work on Salome again at the Wadsworth Theater, in Los Angeles, directed by Estelle Parsons, performing the play in the evenings, and filming the screenplay version of the play during the days, which was directed by Mr. Pacino.
