In the 1970's, her second husband director Peter Bogdanovich divorced her to be with starlet Cybill Shepherd. In the film Diferenças Irreconciliáveis (1984), a director (Ryan O'Neal) divorced his wife (Shelley Long) for a starlet (Sharon Stone). When Platt was asked about whether Diferenças Irreconciliáveis (1984) was inspired by her real life situation, her answer was: "They got more right than wrong".

Her father was a judge at the Nuremberg war crimes trial in Germany.

She helped to create the plot for Peter Bogdanovich's movie Targets (1968). She also suggested to her husband that he should make Larry McMurtry's novel "The Last Picture Show" into a film.
