- In 1998, he was awarded the Prix Denise-Pelletier, one of the 11 Prix du Québec which recognize cultural and scientific achievements for French-speaking Canadians. This particular prize is named for his late sister, a noted actress of the Quebec stage, and was given in recognition of Gilles' lifetime of accomplishment in the performing arts.

During a 15-year period, he served as administratve director and later artistic director, giving up much of his career as a stage performer for this goal.
