Mujica's father died when he was seven years old and his mother, Lucy Cordano, was in charge of raising him and also that of his younger sister.

His last wish was that his remains be buried in his farm, where one of his loves also rests that also made him distinctive: his three-legged dog, Manuela.

When he ended his term es President of Uruguay, he served as Senator from 2015 to 2020, and a second term from 2020 to 2025 (his death).

Turned into a popular icon because his cause as activist and supporter for peace and the civil rights.

From 1973 to 1985 he was political prisoner after the military coup d'etat happened on Uruguay, in regime of strict isolation, without rights or permission to talk with any other prisoner. His longtime sentence was adapted as movie in Uma Noite de 12 Anos (2018).

[2010] Elected to be President of Uruguay, fulfilling his term on 2015. He was 75 when he was elected.

During his time as President of Uruguay he made legal the abort and the homosexual marriage. In addition, he made deep social changes in industry, energy and education, reforming the whole country.
