His career was the inspiration for the Rick Dalton character in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

He has appeared in three films that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: O Preço de um Homem (1953), A Morte num Beijo (1955) and Glória Feita de Sangue (1957).
