McKidd has a son Joseph (born 2000) and a daughter Iona (born 2002) by his first marriage to Jane Parker. The family became U.S. citizens in 2015. The union ended in divorce in 2017 after 17 years. McKidd remarried, to Arielle Goldrath, with whom he has two very small children.

Provided the voice for 'Soap' MacTavish in the video games Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011).
