Her status with As the World Turns (1956) was considered somewhat unusual. When she joined the show in 2002, the role of Rosanna Cabot was a recurring one. However, she became so popular with fans that "ATWT" tried to get her to sign a contract. She refused, but the show still continued to feature her prominently, which is usually not the case for recurring characters. She even won the 2004 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Shortly before that, she finally agreed to sign a one-year contract with "ATWT". When the deal expired she went back to recurring status with the show for awhile before she ultimately left, soon rejoining All My Children (1970) in her popular role of Dixie Cooney Martin.

The first and only performer to have won Daytime Emmys in three of the four major acting categories for three different soaps on three different networks in three different decades: Dixie on ABC's "All My Children" (1990 Outstanding Juvenile Female); Rosanna on CBS's "As the World Turns" (2004 Supporting Actress); and Jennifer on NBC's "Days of Our Lives" (2021 Outstanding Guest Performer).

Cady is committed to charity work, has been a member of the Junior Board of the Enterprise Foundation and also worked with RARE to develop a radio soap opera for the Wildward Islands of the Carribean. She is devoted to helping New Orleans recover.

Her first two movies featured actress Jessica Harper: Pennies from Heaven, for which Cady was a dancer, and a small but very important role as Peter O'Toole's estranged daughter in My Favorite Year.

Cady returned to All My Children (1970) in 2006 to create a new dynamic with fans through her blog, "Confessions of a Mad Soap Star," at www.cadysconfessions.com, as well as other innovative audience interactions.

July 28, 2006: Release of her debut music album, "BlueGlitterFish," which contains 11 tracks. The title is from a painting Cady made of a girl sitting in a café surrounded by swimming fish.

April 16, 2014: Release of her memoir from CreateSpace Independent Publishing , now Amazon's KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing)] titled "Murdering My Youth: A Memoir.".

Spring 2023: Announced that she is now an acting instructor at the Michael Howard Studios in New York City.

November 11, 2010: Release of her first live-music album "Club Passim," recorded at a gig she had at the famous Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It contains 11 tracks.

Played the title-role in the one-character play, "Shirley Valentine," at Cape May Stage in Cape May, New Jersey from June 07th through July 02nd, 2023.
