- O detective holístico confia suavemente no universo para desvendar mistérios baseados na "interconectividade de todas as coisas".
- Arbiter Maven and Operative Sporall monitor Jinsy's residents via tessellates. Orwellian island life includes events like cow washes, fine payments, and downloads. Guest comedy stars appear.
- Eccentric private eye Dirk Gently uses 'holistic' methods, believing everything in the universe to be connected. When hired to trace elderly Ruth's missing cat, Dirk, with down-trodden sidekick MacDuff, investigates a warehouse, which houses a strange contraption, which blows up. A connection is made to a missing billionaire, Gordon Way, who has been besotted with MacDuff's girlfriend Susan for over a decade. Dirk connects the dates when Ruth acquired her cat and when Susan threw over Way to solve a puzzle involving time travel and homicide, accounting for the missing cat and billionaire as well as the disappearance of Ruth's husband.
- An unfortunate contestant in Sporall's weekly meat quiz dies during the popular island game. As is Jinsy custom, her nameworm must be removed, and the worm itself passed on to the most recent newborn. For Arbiter Maven, this spells bad news for many reasons. Firstly, it's snowing; second, the infant is on the far side of the island; and third, the procedure has to be carried out by Maven's old teacher, Ernest P. Threcker, who has nothing but contempt for Maven, and isn't shy about showing it.
- Arbiter Maven is the only Arbiter in Jinsy's history not to be selected as a member of the Cranial Lodge. He's determined to put that right by creating an invention of his own that will guarantee him membership. Sadly, he has no ideas of any worth, until he sees what looks like a car at a visit to the White Apron Playgroup. He persuades Sporall that they must steal the 'Vel' from its schoolboy inventor, Caravel Didd-Onion, and pass it off as their own, without letting on to the playgroup's stern Headmistress Mrs Stenton, or her glove puppet, Tiddly Eye.
- Jinsy is terrorized by rampaging hair when a historic wig takes on a life of its own in the annual Follication ceremony.
- Maven is desperate to get his accounts done on time, but the accountants have gone feral.
- Maven hears from a local astrologer that he's going to be assassinated and tries to find someone to take his place.
- Maven and Sporall win a pendant intended for the island's young girls from etiquette teacher Miss Penny.
- The island celebrates a night of revelry for the forbidden festival of Nacken - without telling Maven.
- Maven is on the hunt for evil mastermind, The Speckled Pom-Pom, and has a suspect in his sights.
- Maven has to kill the island's oldest resident by The Great He, when the population goes over its limit.
- When Maven discovers he's wearing the wrong woggle, he goes in search of the right one to one of the island's former Arbiters.
