At first amused by his cutting up, the class is getting increasngly frustrated, as Jim is starting to give them a bad name with such behavior as cracking jokes during a play rehearsal, tripping a kid at a party and deliberately falling off a chair. One night, thought, Jim goes over the line: he sneaks into school and hangs a banner saying, "Yay, Juniors!" across the entrance. Outraged by such shocking behavior, local parents bombard the principal, demanding to know what kind of school he is running where such brazen acts of rebellion are allowed.
- Preteen Cindy, a tomboy, learns from her best friend Dennis that their mutual friend Mary is hosting a party tomorrow. Not wanting to tell Dennis that she hasn't been invited, Cindy wants to go and believes that the reason she hasn't been invited is because she'd rather do her "tomboy" activities, like play basketball with Dennis, and perhaps that she wouldn't know how to act properly at a party. Going to bed disappointed, Cindy is visited in her dreams by someone more associated with Cinderella than a plain ol' Cindy, that visitor who gives her some guidance as to that etiquette about how to behave properly at a party.
- Ray Medford has just been elected Lincoln High School Senior Class President, most of his classmates who truly admire his accomplishments. In being used to winning, he is gracious in the win as his opponent Dick is gracious in the loss. But in being the captain of the debating team and having won the state championship two years in a row, Ray is surprised not only in finishing second in the district extemporaneous speaking competition, but finishing second to Marilyn Jackson, his classmate who he had been asked to coach in she having had no experience in public speaking before joining the team. As such, Ray has given Mr. Murray, the team coach, his notice of quitting before the state championship, Ray's feelings about the loss probably not helped by his friends and family ribbing him about not winning. Did either Ray or his friends and family do the right thing in this situation?

Chick's classmates have to decide what to do upon learning this information, and Chick, not knowing that they know, will ultimately have to decide what to do in turn.
- Next door neighbors Sarah Inman and Ron Johnson used to be friends when they were children, but have drifted apart now that they're in senior high school. While Ron's parents have let him use their recreation room to have a party most Friday evenings, Sarah never goes despite Mrs. Inman learning from Mrs. Johnson that they are open parties i.e. no invitations are issued in any of Ron's friends welcome. It's not that Sarah doesn't know about the parties in she being able to see and hear them from her bedroom where she is most Friday nights in doing her homework, but she, immersed in her own world, has no interest in any of the people who would attend Ron's party, especially recently elected class president Bill Tyler who she believes coasts in life based on his popularity. And while Ron wouldn't turn her away if she were to show up, he really would prefer she not come in his belief, the prevailing attitude of most of their classmates: that she's a snob. Largely friendless Sarah, while wanting to be liked and in that respect is not really happy, has no idea of that prevailing belief about her. Ron would rather not specifically invite Sarah as his mother wants him to do in believing doing so would only elevate her already self-perceived high standing of herself. But he does do so and she does attend on the urging of her parents. The question then becomes what will happen in this clash of their two worlds.

Both in the pep club, Laura is on the nominating committee and Jean is a prime candidate for the position of next year's club president, a position she would relish holding. While Jean doesn't want any preferential treatment in being Laura's friend, she is afraid that others may see her best friendship with Laura as an unfair advantage. As such, Jean asks Laura to tell her if there ends up being any issue in what is otherwise certain to be her nomination. Jean is most concerned about the "talk" classmate Frida generally circulates, while fun to listen to, is often not based in fact. While the directive within the nomination committee is for one member apiece to conduct a background check on any perspective nominee, Jean assigned to Laura, and that they are to keep discussions within the committee solely to committee meetings, Laura may not be immune to believing Frida's subsequent gossip, most of it swirling around Jean, including her seen going off with Laura's boyfriend, Jim, and being involved in a potential cheating scandal.
