Born in North Kansas City, Eric Winkler graduated from Oak Park High School in Kansas City, and later from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a degree in psychology. He is the father of Owen Winkler and Chase Winkler, the husband of Sara DeMore, the son of Peter F. Winkler, and the biological grandson of Hermann Winkler. He formerly worked for The Kansas City Star, where he was a contributing writer and columnist.
