Faye Webster Brings an ‘Anti-Romantic’ Jam Sesh to ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ With ‘But Not Kiss’
Image
Faye Webster wants to move on, but really can’t. On Monday night, the musician visited Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform her intimate track “But Not Kiss,” which she previously described to Rolling Stone as an “anti-romantic” love song.

“I hope you’re okay, but I won’t ask/If you’re in a good place, I won’t mess with that,” the indie star sang, backed by a soft piano and guitar strums. “But I’m here when you need, I always help/Yeah, yeah.”

Webster was introduced by Kathryn Hahn,...

The Killing Kind thriller series moves from Paramount+ to Hulu
Image
Emma Appleton (The Witcher) and Colin Morgan (Humans) star in the thriller series The Killing Kind, which has just been acquired by the Hulu streaming service… and if the show sounds familiar to you, like it’s something you might have seen while browsing the Paramount+ service, there’s good reason for that. As Deadline explains, “The Killing Kind was originally a Paramount+ Original and commissioned out of the UK. It was one of several local Paramount+ dramas that launched only to be yanked from the streamer overnight earlier this year, much to the ire of viewers.” The shows were removed from Paramount+ as the streamer sought to cut costs and shift to “favoring its Hollywood-style content.”

Now the show has a new home, and it will be available to watch on Hulu as of May 14th.

Faye Webster Underdressed at the Symphony Review: The Pleasure of Discomfort
Lil Yachty
When singer-songwriter Faye Webster needs an escape, she seeks it at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Her attendance is usually a last-minute decision—hence being underdressed, per the title of her fifth studio album, Underdressed at the Symphony.

“I’m asleep in the moment you’re holding my head/But I want to remember I’ll sleep when I’m dead,” Webster mutters on the opening track, “Thinking About You.” She details her most intimate experiences with others in this manner throughout the album, finding herself seeking them out but lacking the desire to fully engage with them.

Similarly, “But Not Kiss” places Webster, who otherwise might seem uncertain about what she wants, in an extremely specific form of longing: “I want to see you in my dreams but then forget/We’re meant to be but not yet/You’re all that I have but can’t get.” She knows what she wants,...

Faye Webster Has Time on Her Side
Image
Faye Webster measures love by what is lost. She loses track of time from endless daydreaming, she loses her sense of self when reminiscing over an ex. On 2019’s “What Used To Be Mine,” she doesn’t just miss a former lover, but the places that defined their relationship. The Atlanta singer-songwriter has always captured romance in this way: as a force that shapes our ambient mode of existence. It’s fitting that her music favors a lounging-around easiness; her blend of soft rock and indie country is an ideal...

Faye Webster Enlists Lil Yachty For Whimsical ‘Lego Ring’
Image
Faye Webster and Lil Yachty have teamed up for “Lego Ring,” a whimsical new track from Webster’s upcoming album Underdressed at the Symphony.

The video below features the Atlanta musicians — who have been friends since middle school — sitting on a couch and debating which of Webster’s songs to play à la Guitar Hero. Yachty passes on the Atlanta Millionaires Club track “Jonny,” as well as songs from 2021’s I Know I’m Funny haha: “Sometimes,” “In a Good Way,” and “Kind Of.”

Finally, the duo settled on “Lego Ring,...

Faye Webster Announces New Album Underdressed at the Symphony, Shares Lil Yachty Collab: Stream
Image
Faye Webster has announced her new album, Underdressed at the Symphony, out March 1st via Secretly Canadian. As a preview, the CoSign alum has shared her new single, “Lego Ring” featuring Lil Yachty. Stream it below.

Recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas with Webster’s longtime band, Underdressed at the Symphony explores emotional intimacy and how desire and passion are often at odds with comfort, understanding, and platonic love. Pre-orders are ongoing.

On “Lego Ring,” Webster’s airy vocals come together with Yachty’s warble as she sings, “I know what I like/ I know what I want/ But you know I kinda need.” Yachty responds, “You and me are like a dream team/ Always together like string beans.”

In the visual treatment, directed by Kyle Ng of Braindead Studios, the duo performs the song while playing a video game called Faye Webster’s Singsongrama, which is similar to Rock Band.

Vegetarians at 50% more risk of hip fracture than meat eaters: Study
Image
London, Aug 1 (Ians) Men and women who follow a vegetarian diet face a 50 per cent greater risk of a hip fracture compared to people who regularly eat meat, according to a large-scale study.

Researchers at the University of Leeds analysed data on 413,914 people — both men and women — and gave the first evidence that vegetarian men also face a greater risk of hip fracture than men who regularly eat meat.

“Hip fractures are a growing problem in an ageing society, and can trigger debilitating health conditions and a loss of quality of life,” said James Webster, a doctoral researcher in the School of Food Science and Nutrition who led the study.

“While vegetarian diets have health benefits, understanding diet quality and the balance of key nutrients may help to reduce risk and improve future bone health,” added Prof Janet Cade, who leads the Nutritional Epidemiology Group at the varsity.

The study,...

Faye Webster Unveils 2023 Tour Dates, Shares New Single “But Not Kiss”: Stream
Image
Faye Webster has returned with “But Not Kiss,” her first new single in two years, and has unveiled dates for a 2023 headlining tour. Watch the music video for the new song and check out the full list of dates below.

Built around an intimate, thumb-strummed electric guitar, “But Not Kiss” is clad with all of Webster’s signature touches, from the pedal steel to the piano accents to the dynamic swells. Singing about a tender-yet-complicated love, her airy croon wrangles together a whirlwind of emotions and presents them in a perfectly delicate and tactful setting.

“I think it could be a really romantic song or a really anti-romantic song,” Webster explained in a statement. “It’s something I’ve looked for but struggled to find in other love songs, for them to describe this conflict or contradiction.”

Webster is hitting the road in North America this fall, kicking off in DC in October.

Members of The View Break Out in a Fight Onstage at Manchester Show
Image
Almost a year ago to the day, we were wondering: Whatever happened to The View? The Scottish indie rockers recently ended their hiatus with a comeback tour, but it seems like their time apart may have been tainted with some bad blood, as a fight broke out onstage mid-set between two members Wednesday night.

NME notes that lead singer Kyle Falconer was seen getting increasingly frustrated during The View’s sold-out show at at The Deaf Institute in Manchester. Eventually, he threw a punch at bassist Kieren Webster, who just so happened to be celebrating his birthday that night. Not an ideal gift.

Some pretty shocking fan-captured footage shows Falconer tossing off his guitar before throwing hands — and feet — to Webster across the stage. The former can be heard yelling “I’ll fucking kill you!” over gasps throughout the intimate crowd. It’s unclear exactly what prompted Falconer to lose...
