Freddie O Anyaegbunam Jr is an award-winning British Nigerian screenwriter and development producer. His feature film debut, The Weekend, had its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Festival and was also an official selection at the BFI London Film Festival 2024, Screamfest 2024, and the 2024 Slash Film Festival. The movie also won 4 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) - including Best Film and Best Screenplay - in 2024. His other work includes the award-winning short, The Encounter, The Nancy Isime Show (Season 2), and the upcoming limited series, Man in the Mirror. He was also script consultant on Shaping Us, an official selection at the British Urban Film Festival (BUFI) 2024.
He is a member of Craft Services, Nicholas Weinstock's (Severance, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pineapple Express, Step Brothers, Get Him to the Greek, and Bridesmaids) innovative community of aspiring screenwriters and writer-directors from under resourced communities and underrepresented backgrounds worldwide.
Before screenwriting, Freddie's career spanned being an analyst and strategic communications consultant for NGOs, a British Army reservist, and a journalist in Southern Africa and Latin America. With academic credentials in Conflict Studies, Law, Politics & History, and ongoing studies in Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge, Freddie brings a rich background and global perspective to his writing.
